After along drive and somewhat difficult late dinner in Roussilon, we arrived at our auberge de charm, to find bright provence colors, crisp clean sheets and fabulous open airy bathrooms. We, first shared a room with loft bedroom,as a couple, two mother-in-laws and 2 dogs. Quiet comfortable sleep followed in the morning with a large farm table for all guests to come, in their own time, to table - offered homemade, fresh daily creamy yogurt, fig jam, cherry preserves, kiwi, banana, hot coffee and fresh croissants with fresh orange juice. Proprietor Robert was attentive and friendly, keeping the coffee hot and flowing and offering the morning sports page, if asked. The morning room is well decorated, preserved wood beams and bright colors, with a charming fireplace. Throughout the guest rooms are charming local paintings of Luberon landscapes, coveted by all in our party. We stayed 4 nights, moving to a two-bedroom suite and enjoyed a fantastic home cooked lamb shank meal, complete with aperitifs of rose with peach leaves steeped inside, candied cherry tomatoes, a fresh selection of area goat cheeses, to-die-for scalloped potatoes and a great mix of conversation. Christianne worked hard, running up to laundry and clean rooms while we enjoyed our morning repast. She brought her beautiful baby granddaughter in for a visit, one morning at breakfast. The smells of the lamb shank permeated all day before dinner. The dogs were allowed in for a warm nap by the fire. They allowed us to come in from daily Provence travels and create our own late night meals, using the kitchen and sideboard of treasured china. We really enjoyed getting to know them and hope they don't become too busy- as they both work so hard. They restored the property from abandonment to charm over ten years of painstaking work. I was able to procure two jars of the homemade fig jam, which I had layered generously each morning throughout the creamy fresh yogurt. Robert sent us to another memorable dinner in Roussillon proper, peppered throughout with everyone's oohs and ahhs. Christianne provided all with the best days in each Luberon town close by that had whatever market goodies we desired. Memorable through all five senses - this was a highlight of my long May in France this year.
