“Well located and comfortable hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

The Coq hotel is situated in the centre of Montreuil and only a few mins walk to all the restaurants. Our twin room was basic but was very clean, the beds comfortable and a fair size TV on the wall. The room also had a mini bar. We paid 154euros for one night in November which was very competitive with the other good hotels in town. You can take breakfast in the hotel but its an additional 15 euro but it was very comprehensive with a vast selection of cereals, breads, wonderful croissants, meats, cheeses and freshly squeezed orange juice - it certainly set us up for the day. We had a lovely evening meal at Froggy's tavern which is a 5 min walk from the hotel and the food and service (from Magali) excellent. I am sure that we will retrun to Montreuil at some point and would be more than happy to stay at the Coq.

“Nice town for an overnight stopover/weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

Montreuil-sur-mer is a nice typical northern French town. Despite the name of the town it is not actually on the sea but on a hilltop. The hotel is comfortable and clean and has everything you need but nothing special. The location is good and the town has plenty of choice of bars, shops and restaurants. We chose not to pay to 10 euros to park and found parking on the street at the back of the hotel - this was in October though and may not be so easy in the summer. We also chose not to pay 15 euros for breakfast and had a very simple breakfast of coffee, bread and jam in a small cafe in the square. Our only complaint is that when we returned to the hotel after our meal at 10.00pm for a nightcap the bar was closed. We found a bar in the square that was open until midnight and happy to serve us coffee and cognac.

“Old world charm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Hotel Coq is pretty well unchanged from our last visit three years ago. A beautiful old house with a particularly attractive dining room but with modern comfortable well-equipped rooms. Buffet breakfast provided a good choice of cereals, real orange juice, cold cuts, and wonderful fresh bread and croissants. Dinner was good but I think there may be better-value restaurants in Montreuil. All in all, a hotel of charm and individuality which has a real French feel.

Room Tip: The rooms in the annexe beyond the courtyard are fully modernised (we had Room 22 which had a nice v...

“elegant and comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

We stayed overnight while returning from the Dordogne and were left thinking we'd like to try this again, a winter weekend break perhaps.

The room was excellent, bathroom well equipped, comfortable large bed and a couple of easy chairs in the room made it easy to live with. Good choice on the menu and a very elegant tasteful dining room made for a good dining experience.

I agree with other comments regarding the reception area in the newer part of the hotel, somehow it doesn't seem to have a purpose, maybe the decor or furniture doesn't quite work here.

Great breakfast selection with the exception of eggs(missing?) but at 15 euros make sure you've got a 15 euro appetite otherwise pop round the corner for a croissant and coffee.

“Superb - as ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

Just returned from another weekend at this lovely hotel. This must be the fourth or fifth visit now.
The owner, Brigite is a gem. Such a smashing person and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are in a purpose built building just beyond the courtyard and they must be the cleanest hotel rooms on this earth. The whole place is spotless. The breakfast is super, truly continental with wonderful breads, pates and meats. We ate there on Saturday and as always the food was excellent. Perfectly placed to see the lovely town, shop at the chocolate shop and stock up with wine. They have also just opened a soup bar which is also excellent. Simple fare, soups and quiches, but great wine and lovely and warm. Looking forward to our next visit.
