“Correct but not exceptional”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2013

This is a bustling bistro with a mixture of locals and tourists. The USP is that the mains are prepared on a rotisserie. The welcome was warm on a rainy November day and Laura spoke good English which was appreciated by our non-French speaking friends.
Being four, we were lucky to have our own table and benches but be prepared to share if the bistro is crowded.
The food was good rather than brilliant with ample choice for each of the three courses. Our selections (all different) were well cooked and flavoursome. Wine choice was pretty good but prices were on the high side. Commercial Northern France as opposed to rural Burgundy? Service however was exceptional and well paced, giving us time to appreciate the convivial atmosphere.
In summary, despite the high wine prices, the bill and food were OK. 'Correct' as the French would say.
Would I go again - Yes. Would I go out of my way - No.

“Friendly and good value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2013

Had an excellent lunch at this bistro where our friends had been before. Full of locals which is always a good sign. Our lovely waitress (Laura) speaks excellent English. Mains mostly simple grilled food but well done and presented. I note another reviewer's comment about simple salad and potatoes, but we gfound both fine. Mantreuil is well served for restaurants and this is a good one. Would go back. Wine not cheap but excellent quality.....

“Excellent service - food not too exciting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

Delightful charming waitresses, buzzy and packed on a Friday evening. We were squeezed in between two couples - bench seating so flexibility required and no privacy but that was ok with us. We had chicken and ribs which were unexciting I am sorry to say accompanied by simple salad and bland potatoes. Mid priced food but we were surprised how expensive the wine list was by the bottle. Great atmosphere but the food wouldn't tempt us back.

“I wish the scoring went to 6!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013 via mobile

I almost don't want to write this because I don't want to ever find myself unable to book a table at Froggy's due to its growing popularity! But I can't lie about how wonderful it is, from start to finish. The service staff deserve no less than glowing praise for their kindness and attentive service. Nothing was too much for them as they sought to ensure we had a wonderful night, and each if the 6 friends with us reported that that goal had been achieved! The wine list is interesting but affordable - from the delicious champagne we shared to start our meal, to the several bottles sampled over our dinner. The food at Froggy's (about 7-8 dishes available for each course and any combination of 1, 2 or 3 available - plus cheese - for a very reasonable price) is truly delicious. Much if the main course meat is cooked simply on their indoor BBQ-style set up but don't be deceived! The combinations of herbs, seasonings and sauces make for some of the best taste sensations we've had! And both starters and desserts are clever combinations of delicious foods - the boudin noir and eggs was particularly tasty and the confiture du lait ice cream had people in raptures!! This place can make the whole trip here (which is as easy and worthwhile as booking a table at Froggy's) and we were so delighted to have shared it with our best friends - though we'll now have to fight them for tables too!!

“worth seeking out...ribbit, ribbit...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

we were the only customers yet the staff were faultless - helpful (our French leaves much to be desired), charming, efficient and welcoming. we ate quail with tarragon and lemon, and coquelet (tiny chicken), with confit potatoes of surpassing richness, and a beautifully dressed crisp salad. we just had room for icecream and riz au lait - the rice came in a kilner jar and was so creamy - and baked figs with ice cream and cream. we've been to Auberge de la Grenouillere a couple of times but not lately - last time we were there thought it was lazy and arrogant. so if we'd twigged this was theirs - doh, should have! - we might not have pursued going to Froggy's. missed out once before because the friend we were with wanted to sit in the sun - this time just the two of us so we planned to try it since we were passing through Montreuil. It was a miserable, wet, drear October lunchtime and it looked closed but we persisted. thank goodness we did. fab meal, delightful staff - i'd make a detour to lunch here again. even on a wet, cold october weekday when we'd be the only ones there!
