I have just returned from a long trip to Europe, including London, France, Switzerland and Itlay. I have to say that of the nine hotels we stayed in, this was one of my top two favorites. What really made the difference for us with this charming hotel was the warmth of the owners, Nadia and Pascal, and their fantastic staff. We arrived around 9 a.m, and walking in the door from the back car park, I commented to my daughter that the hotel immediatley felt comfortable and homey. Of course we did not expect our room to be ready that early. Nadia, however, welcomed us with a big smile and insisted that we leave our bags there rather than in the car, and then gave us tips for some sightseeing. When we returned, our bags were in our room and it had warmed up enough that we were able to go out and lounge by the lovely pool. ( We call this part of our trip our "vacation from our vacation". )
The hotel itself has a very warm and cozy feel to it, nicely decorated, and my daughter Kaitlyn and I were finally able to really rest and relax here upon our arrival. We had one of the smaller rooms, twin beds at my request, and it was charming and comfortable. I had the best nights' sleep of the trip there, feeling more like I was staying in the bedroom of a friend's home than in a hotel. What a joy to awaken to the Provencal sunlight coming through the large windows! It was quiet enough to sleep with the windows wide open at night. The bathroom and room were both spotlessy cleaned. Free internet is always a welcome treat when you are travelling for extended periods. Nadia arranged for massages for both my daughter and myself, and it was a fantastic way to start a Sunday. The buffet breakfast was very good, real (not frozen) croissants from a local bakery, and the typical European spread of cheeses, meats, yogurt, etc. Nadia and the staff gave us great tips for sightseeing, meals, etc, and excellent directions to everywhere we needed to go. On our last day when I couldn't find the local tobacco store to but stamps, Nadia walked me there herself and we chatted along the way. I am so impressed with her warmth and joy for life, and it shows in her hospitality to her guests. I really did feel as though I was a friend staying in her home. I would never consider staying elsewhere should I return to the area, and I do hope to return, sooner rather than later.
The location and comfort ( and cost, by the way - a very reasonable deal ) makes this a good home base to explore Avignon, Nimes, the Pont du Gard, and other area sights. Do not miss the Pont du Gard, a beautiful sight for a picnic and maybe a dip in the cool water on a hot day. The hotel is about a 10 - 15 minute drive from the TGV station, and a 5-10 minute drive from the walled town of Avignon. If you do not NEED to stay in Avignon proper, I think this is a much better and more relaxing choice, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Thank you Nadia, Pascal and staff for this lovely respite. We hope to see you again before too long. Amy and Kaitlyn
