My husband and I have just returned from 7 days at this hotel. The staff were indeed friendly and helpful. No English spoken so brush up on your French. We had a superior room on the first floor (with air-con) which was needed as it was hot. Although its on the main road the double glazing was very good and we didn't hear a thing. Our room could do with a bit of updating (some peeling wallpaper) but don't let that put you off. The bed was very comfy. BBC World service only English Channel on TV. Full free internet access in the hotel lobby (one PC but it was rarely busy). Good location if you have a car. ED (supermarket) just across the road. Great for sightseeing - Nimes, Arles, Orange, the Carmargue and Avignon of course. Breakfast (if it isn't in your package) is 10E which consists of crossaints/pastries, yogurts, ham, cheese, fruit juice etc.

Stayed in June with my wife. Staff were extremely helpful and felt at home. The hotel has a pool for lazy sunny days and good breakfast. Hard to fault for the price - except the location. A bus does run daily 1 euro 10 cent into the city , but service stops at approx 8pm so you need to get a taxi back, a service which is limited in avignon, and you need to call rather than simply waiting at taxi rank.
The hotel is a perfect option if you have a car though and there are lots of things to do around avignon also.
Thanks for a great stay.

Just spent 4 nights at the Hotel Roques after researching carefully all the reviews for Avignon hotels. We found the hotel easily enough; it's just a few minutes drive due west of Avignon at Les Angles and is well sign-posted. After seeing how congested and narrow the streets are in the centre of Avignon, we were quite relieved to see plenty of free parking in the Roques' own car park behind the hotel. Tip: it's just a 6-minute drive into Avignon. Cross the 2nd bridge and turn right, and right again, down into the underground car park just next to the city walls.

The hotel certainly has plenty of character, and is attractively decorated throughout in warm "rustic" tones. Our room was spacious and had one of the most comfortable beds I've slept in for months (and I travel frequently).

One of the highlights of the Hotel Roques was the delicious breakfast of cheese, cold meat, jam, croissant etc served every morning in the little breakfast area behind the reception desk, a very pleasant start to the day. I can imagine that during the summer when the morning temperature is a bit higher that breakfast in the garden behind the hotel would be a very attractive option.

Free internet access was thoughtfully available from a PC just inside the back door, so we could check our email and daily weather forecasts. The people running the hotel were very friendly and helpful without being overbearing. Although they do speak good English, I was glad of the chance to practice my French without being answered back in English.

Strongly recommended.

“Great Find”

Hotel Roques Les Angles

I have just returned from a long trip to Europe, including London, France, Switzerland and Itlay. I have to say that of the nine hotels we stayed in, this was one of my top two favorites. What really made the difference for us with this charming hotel was the warmth of the owners, Nadia and Pascal, and their fantastic staff. We arrived around 9 a.m, and walking in the door from the back car park, I commented to my daughter that the hotel immediatley felt comfortable and homey. Of course we did not expect our room to be ready that early. Nadia, however, welcomed us with a big smile and insisted that we leave our bags there rather than in the car, and then gave us tips for some sightseeing. When we returned, our bags were in our room and it had warmed up enough that we were able to go out and lounge by the lovely pool. ( We call this part of our trip our "vacation from our vacation". )

The hotel itself has a very warm and cozy feel to it, nicely decorated, and my daughter Kaitlyn and I were finally able to really rest and relax here upon our arrival. We had one of the smaller rooms, twin beds at my request, and it was charming and comfortable. I had the best nights' sleep of the trip there, feeling more like I was staying in the bedroom of a friend's home than in a hotel. What a joy to awaken to the Provencal sunlight coming through the large windows! It was quiet enough to sleep with the windows wide open at night. The bathroom and room were both spotlessy cleaned. Free internet is always a welcome treat when you are travelling for extended periods. Nadia arranged for massages for both my daughter and myself, and it was a fantastic way to start a Sunday. The buffet breakfast was very good, real (not frozen) croissants from a local bakery, and the typical European spread of cheeses, meats, yogurt, etc. Nadia and the staff gave us great tips for sightseeing, meals, etc, and excellent directions to everywhere we needed to go. On our last day when I couldn't find the local tobacco store to but stamps, Nadia walked me there herself and we chatted along the way. I am so impressed with her warmth and joy for life, and it shows in her hospitality to her guests. I really did feel as though I was a friend staying in her home. I would never consider staying elsewhere should I return to the area, and I do hope to return, sooner rather than later.

The location and comfort ( and cost, by the way - a very reasonable deal ) makes this a good home base to explore Avignon, Nimes, the Pont du Gard, and other area sights. Do not miss the Pont du Gard, a beautiful sight for a picnic and maybe a dip in the cool water on a hot day. The hotel is about a 10 - 15 minute drive from the TGV station, and a 5-10 minute drive from the walled town of Avignon. If you do not NEED to stay in Avignon proper, I think this is a much better and more relaxing choice, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Thank you Nadia, Pascal and staff for this lovely respite. We hope to see you again before too long. Amy and Kaitlyn

Hotel Roques is situated in the village of Les Angles, which is in effect a quiet suburb of Avignon. The village has a good range of restaurants and shops yet is only 6 minutes away from Avignon by bus. The buses are relatively regular, but stop around 8pm at night. During the festival, there are night buses. It is approximately 40 minutes on foot to the centre of Avignon. Staff in the hotel are extremely helpful and welcoming. The bedroom was clean, relatively spacious, well equipped and nicely decorated and furnished in a typical French style. The hotel has a large amount of outdoor space, with a patio area at the back door where tables are set for breakfast, as well as a large car park and gardens with swimming pool. The breakfast buffet is good value at 10 euros with a wide variety. We would happily stay here again if visiting the Avignon festival.
