“Majestic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

The cave itself is not easy to spot from the road, but when you get inside you are amazed at how big it actually is. There is a small house near the entrance,so it hits you right away. The rays of the Sun,that come through the holes in the cave's ceiling make it even more beautiful. You can spot many different species of bats and further inside there are ruins, that are also interesting. You can only visit the cave during a 4 month period,I believe,so make sure you check before you go.

“Fantastic place featured in "The Expendables 2"!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

I’ve heard a lot about this cave even before the movie was made. This time when we were visiting Bulgaria we decided to go there. It is absolutely unique place. We’ve seen a lot of underground caves in USA and Bulgaria, but this is one of a kind. The cave is the home of many different spices of bats and other animals, the sign was showing that there are 45 kinds of animals. Only part of the cave is accessible. Great place to visit, but limited times to visit; as far as I remember June thru September (please check before you head there, I saw a sign in front of the cave with this information). There is a short walk from the place where you can park (this is not a parking lot, just a dirt road) right before the bridge, the fee was very small. We also visited the Krushunski Waterfalls, they are not far from the cave, may be 20 km or less. On the way to the cave we saw lots of other signs for waterfalls, but we didn’t go… Great place for pictures! “Unique cave amongst the Bulgarian treausures”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2013

It is an unique cave because in comparison to all Bulgarian caves, Devetashka Cave is an open one. The height between the ground and the top roof is some 50-60 m, there are big wholes on the top of the cave where the sun penetrates from, and for this reason it is not as cool as in other caves. It became relatively famous after The Expendables 2 shooting scenes. There is a huge population of bats in here. A lovely, lovely place! It is also not far away from Krushunski Waterfalls, so the two sites can be visited in one day.

“Nature vs man”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

Devetashka cave (Devetashkata peshtera) is a huge natural cave with quite a history and some curious contrasts.
The cave can be reached either via the old trail starting from the mountain road to Devetaki village, or via the restored bridge, a former railroad bridge which was rebuilt for the movie 'The Expendables 2'.
From the bridge you get a beautiful view over the Osam river. On a nice day you can see the fish jumping and turtles sunbathing on fallen branches.
Inside the caves, there is small stream to the left, and gaping holes in the ceiling shed light on the water and patches of green. To the right is a man-made wall encircling a storage space were 3 large circles on the ground witness the past presence of big cisterns for stocking oil.
In the back it leads further into the (non-accessible) cave system that penetrates the mountainside and is home to bats.
Be sure to visit on a sunny day when plenty of light can enter, and visit the Maarata falls too, they're just 20 km away.

“Fabulous place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013 via mobile

The cave is absolutely a place which everybody must visit! There are no words to explain the energy inside! And the nature outside! :) There is no information sign on the main road so you can not find it easy but if you ask somebody it is possible to find it! This is the only one bad thing there !
