“Hidden Gem in a Chocolate box Austrian Village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

We have now stayed at the Schonblick Mountain Resort a number of times and can only say what a real gem this is. Daniella 6 is a lovely apartment in and excellent well maintained modern hotel like resort in the beautiful unspoilt Austrian village of Rauris. The apartment is well equipped with everything you need. In our last visit we really enjoyed sitting on the terrace, which got the sun all day and has spectacular view of the mountains and valley. You can even see the main cable car which is only a few hundred meters away or a few moments walk. We went up the cable car one day to see an amazing Falconry display at a lovely mountain restaurant. Rauris village is just 100 meters from the apartments and has some lovely bars and restaurants which are friendly and family owned and very reasonable in price for this kind of resort. Meals and drinks about the same as the UK or less. The apartments have an indoor/outdoor pool and a Jacuzzi plus steam and sauna which are all free. We used these a lot during our visit in January after we had enjoyed our days skiing. The ski area is great for beginners with wide open blue runs which are high up the mountain so always have snow. There are also some great red runs plus a couple of blacks which allowed us to ski right back to the village for lunch and at the end our day. We didn’t realise at first but Rauris is a great base for skiing with perhaps 20 other ski resorts within half an hour’s drive and the Super Salzburgland Ski Pass covers all of them, so no extra lift pass costs. All in all the apartment, resort and village are great in the summer or winter. We have already booked again for next year.

Room Tip: The best Apartments are in Daniella Block facing south with sun all day and fantastic view

We came to Salzburgland with our 3 girls mainly for the purpose of sightseeing in the area. The location of the resort was not the best for this purpose, as most of the places we went to were in the north, and we spent to much time on the road.
As for the resort itself: we took an apartment of 8 for us 5, so it was very spacious and comfortable. We had a living room, 2 rooms with double beds (one of them a master bedroom with adjecent bathroom) and another relatively small room with a bunkbed. It was quite comfortable, but I suspect it would be too crowded for 8.
Most of the things were quite OK, but there were few things that weren't. the main thing was the fact that they didn't tell us in advance that the reception is closed by 6 pm. we arrived at 8.30, after a long journey from Viena, and had troblr to find the resort as it did not included in the GPS, and we got the wrong address from our travel agent, the voucher didn't include the correct address ect. some nice pepole from OTHER HOTEL helped us find the place. when we finally arrived, there was total darknes everywhere, no sign or note anywhere. the place looked deserted. A nice lady from the next door bar, came with us (after another girl from the bar told us that she think that the resort is closed for the summer) and called the number that was on the reception door, only then they told us that they left a key in the flowepot. Both of the women in the bar said its not the first time that lost tourists arrived at their doorstep asking for help...
the second big thing was the internet connection that were prommissed but even though we had to 15 euro deposit for the cable (no wifi- there is a wifi detected in the apartment but it is not of the resort- you only get the radiation) we couldn't use that network. something about the fact that we came from Israel and IP address. I didn't fully understand. we had to use cellular internet.
Another thing was the beds, that were uncomfortable as they were made of light wood and a cheep mattress.
other small things - no hooks in the bathroom to hang clothes or other stuff, no bath curtain or bath carpet, only one dishwasher tablet and no dishwashing soap- it's not such a big deal, but it such a low cost on the one hand and such a trouble for the guest on thr otherhand, that i would prefer to have an option at least to buy it fromthe reception in small quantities ( we bought a package of 50 tablets from the supermarket. it cost 4.5 euro. I would pay the same ammount for 5 or so to save me the trouble of looking for it).
On the positive side I should mention that when we wanted to leave early on our last day they let us do the check-out a day earlier, which was very nice and helpfull.

Room Tip: Ask for an apartment with a view.

We (the family) booked the resort over a (Dutch) agency and because it was pre-season, the price was very correct. We had a three room apartment and everything was there, clean and worked.
My only problem was that the master bed was far too small. I could not stretch and and is was very narrow. For the rest... no comments.
When we arrived (Saturday after 18:00) the shops in town were closed and also on Sunday, nothing to purchase. So... the resort offered breakfast at 9 Euro p/p and this was too much. Also because you have to order for three days minimum.
We took the remaining breakfasts at the neighbouring hotel. Better and cheaper.
The swimming pool is small but suits it purpose and outside is a warm jacuzzi. Also free sauna and steambath are available.
In the bar upstairs is free wireless internet and in the apartments is a wired connection.
My point was only that there was no atmosphere in the apartments, bar or restaurant.
But my all and all impression is good and we might come back here.
The village is nice, quiet and has everything you need for a nice vacation.

Room Tip: Make sure your breakfast is in order if you arrive in the weekend after 18:00

Well equipped spacious modern (ski style) apartment with full length french windows in the main room and a wide outside balcony for taking the sun and admiring the fabulous views of the nearby mountain.

Nearby private swimming pool and Jacuzzi.

Very near to the cable car which still works part time in the Summer and a brilliant area for walking with a national park about 30 minutes drive up the valley.
Also 40 minutes from the attractive town of Zell am See with its fabulous lake and the surprisingly reasonably priced Grand Hotel! (Hotel Tirolerhof is also excellent for coffee/lunch)

The place is in easy walking distance of the whole of Rauris and we didn't use the car at all most of the time as there are plenty of cafes for apple strudel etc as well as fulll scale restuarants within easy reach.

The Austrians must be the World's Best Hosts - where else would they light a fire for you or offer you a free cup of coffee even when they are closed?
Really relaxing place for a break and we can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Only been in Elizabeth Apartments unfortunately.

We stayed in apartment Manuela 9 in the first 2 weeks of August. It was a private letting which can be found on holidaylettings.co.uk. The apartment was very comfortable, with plenty of space for our party of two adults, and our 2 young sons. The apartment had everything we needed, and it was only a short walk into the village of Rauris.
There is an on site pool, and a small play area. However the play area at the nearby Sommer Park was much bigger, with a shallow mountain stream running through it which kept the kids amused for hours, whilst we supervised from the park cafe with beer/coffee etc!!.
The location in the Rauris Valley is great with loads to do. We purchased a Salzburgerland Card, which gave us free (or discounted) access to many attractions, cable cars/gondolas, lots of outdoor heated pools throughout the area and Mini Golf.
We visited the Kitzlochklamm at Taxenbach, and also Krimml Falls a bit further afield.
Other highlights included the “Ghost Mountain” at Alpendorf, where there was absolutely loads for the kids to do. We also went to the Kitzsteinhorn for a visit to the Summer Ice Arena - lots of summer sledging fun.
Good child friendly eating out spots were the Landgasthaus Wiexen and the Sonnblick in Rauris village.
In conclusion a great base and comfortable apartment.

Stayed here through a private rental and it is a lovely modern development on the edge of the village. Our apartmetn had a fantastic mountain view from the balcony. Only 5 mins walk to the centre of the village which has numerous cafes and restaurants.

Rauris is a lovely village with walking / mountain biking and an outdoor pool with a fantastic view down the valley.
