“Nice boutique hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2014

El Valle is a small town and this probably is one of the nicest hotels. As one reviewer said, it could be an excellent hotel. It is quaint and within walking distance of a very nice restaurant. The morning breakfast buffet was average, but better than you will find in many places in Panama. Wifi is available, but spotty. Shouldn't be worrying about your electronics while here anyway....relax and enjoy the place!

Room Tip: This hotel is located way off the road so room location is really not a problem. Ask for a room fac...

A brief stay will not necessarily reveal what the best place in town is, but this got to rank in the top few. Great service, nice rooms - but a mediocre breakfast marked our one night stay. For those who have to stay connected: the Wifi is limited to a lobby. The restaurant next door (lourdes) was quite remakable.

We stayed here in February 2014 with a Grand Circle Travel trip of Panama. Our room was large, but had just one chair, and no table. The TV could not be turned off, either at the set or by the remote, so we had to unplug it! The bathroom offered heated towel racks, and had a large shower. Our main problem was the fact that we had no hot water the first night! Management sent a repairman to check thus out, but we never did get hot water the first day. Breakfast was good, served in an indoor/outdoor setting. An omelet station, fruits (very little pineapple), steam table Panamanian dishes, good coffee. Wi fi is not available in the guest rooms, but is in the bar and an office type of room. The grounds and views were great!

Our deepest apologies for any inconvenience during your stay. Pressing the tv button on the remote and then pressing power turns off the tv. The hot water problem is due to low water preasure during your stay that prevents the water from warming up the lack of water. Panama’s National Water Works Institute has had problems with the water distribution this summer. El Valle de Anton has been struck particularly harshly by this problem. Los Mandarinos, at the foot of the Gaital National Park, has suffered even further due to its location at a higher level than the town. We have tripled our water storage units in order to ensure that this troublesomeness does not occur again. We regret that these actions not been taken prior to your stay the occurrence caught us off guard.

We only stayed one night but this is a lovely hotel with beautiful grounds. The staff is wonderful and very helpful. I contacted them before we arrived to request a guide for a hike and they hooked us up with Mario banal, who is famous in that area! What a treat.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2014

We stayed for 2 nights in January 2014. The hotel looked promising from the outside, smart and in a lovely location but ultimately disappointing. We had booked a deluxe room opening to the pool which ours did not. No water on arrival shortly after 2pm so unable to freshen up or use toilet. Upon complaining we were told there was a shortage and local authority turned off supplies from about 2 to 4pm every afternoon - pity they didn’t feel it necessary to advise this when checking in. To make matters worse water from the shower, when working, was always stone cold. Water from basin was warm.

On our second day water was not restored until after 7pm - very strange as the water sprinklers were working on adjacent lawns. When my husband complained he had the phone put down on him.

The room and bathroom (no bath) were spacious but dark and musty smelling, made worse by being unable to open curtains as workmen immediately outside the window.

The small swimming pool was murky so we decided not to chance a dip. On site O’Pedro’s Irish Pub was also very disappointing. The mandatory 10% service charge was outrageous as they didn’t even bother to open and pour the canned Guinness (5.83 euro for 330ml or 95c from local shops 330ml). We ate luke warm shepherds pie and stodgy steak pie (90% heavy pastry, 10% ground beef); greasy spoon food at gourmet prices. Of course this is probably to encourage you to pay the even more outrageous prices in the other on-site restaurants Triana and Casa de Lourdes. 2 miles into town if you want to eat elsewhere.

Buffet breakfast in the Triana (no resemblance to hotel website description) was basic and food not replaced when it ran out. One morning there was not enough seating with people waiting for tables to be vacated. Staff indifferent!

It is supposedly the best accommodation in El Valle. If so, expect the other hotels to be of 1* standard.

The area is justifiably very popular and definitely worth visiting but as there are no top notch hotels in the vicinity, the hotel can get away with its rip off room charges.

Room Tip: Not upstairs as they get the water last!

I was here for 3 days. The place is lovely, rooms are very spacious and the view is spectacular. However, when I booked a spa hotel I was hoping for something more than 2 treatment rooms where you could not even talk because the person inside could hear you. In order to use the hot tub, a treatment had to be booked. My friend did not want a treatment so she was not be able to go in the tub with me. In addition, "everything needs a reservation" although, restaurants were always empty. Fortunately we had a car and went into town (not within walking distance unless you can walk at least 2 miles up and down hills - one way) - the spas and restaurants in town are much better and less expensive.
And by the way if you need an iron it is available but for a charge! The WiFi was very difficult to get - only available in certain areas of the hotel.

Room Tip: Go if you want to rest but don't expect a spa hotel.

I HIGHLY recommend this hotel in Panama. It exceeded our expectations in every way -- wonderful location, gorgeous facility and delicious food. We found it via Panama Travel Consultants (also excellent) and loved our stay there. It is within walking distance of a small town, many local sites and an excellent place to go zip lining. We did a tour with a guide named Carlos who took us to all the hotspots (including the hot springs) for a fun, cultural look at Panama. We give it an A+.
