My wife and I stayed at los capitanes in El valle. Wow !!! Clean modest and friendly. Manfrey is the owner speak fluent english but we are French from Canada and he was really easy to communicate with us. What a men always a good story friendly calm and funny. We wanted to stay longer but....
The next day he drove us to his new eco resort in construction a paradise. This gentleman is full energy and really sympatic. IWe highly recommand is place. Some peoples expect to much sometimes when they' re not home!!!! my 2 cents.

Los Capitanes at El Valle (The Valley) is one of the best and most reasonably priced resorts that I stayed in anywhere in Central America. The resort is managed by a jovial German who also tends to the its beautiful gardens. The rooms are simple but spacious and open to an enclosed garden with a view of beautiful mountains in the background. The facilities also include a small conference room, an iguana and a couple of hammocks for afternoon siestas. The restaurant offers some tasty food, but has a limited menu and is slightly pricey. Los Capitanes provided a relaxed, comfortable way to spend a couple of days in the heart of Panama.

Los Capitanes hotel is a quiet, secluded place in Panama's magnificent Valle de Anton. The rooms are clean and neat, as is the bathroom. You'll wake up to birds in the nearby trees, and look out to see the huge mountains looming over you. The food in the restaurant is surprisingly good, particularly the fish. The grounds are immaculately kept. And then there is the owner, Manfred Koch. He looks out for his guests. He even offered us a shot of brandy at night to help us sleep. He's quick with his jokes and stories. And all this for only 65 bucks a night! Try getting that in the US. Dont' listen to the crybabies and their negative reviews. This place is excellent!

This place has seen its days and is sinking fast. It is now about on par with a hostel. Terrible rooms, service and food.

The hotel is beautiful and the grounds and location are equally as beautiful. The Captain is very helpful and even took us to his eco-lodge in the mountains. Im looking forward to staying there next year.

Los Capitanes was recommended to us by other travellers. We did not take a room there because we are travelling in a pick up camper. But we used the restaurant, showers etc.
If you are coming to Panama or any other Central American Country, you can't expect the same level of service or attention like in the US or Europe. So with that in mind Los Capitanes is a very well run place. We were allowed to park in their parking lot for free, use their electricity and Shower as long as we eat in the restaurant "once or twice" (we stayed 4 nights). The food was very good. My wife ate fish which was good but didn't meet her taste. When the owner asked her whether she liked the food and she told him that she just didn't like the fish he offered her a free meal.
The grounds are well kept and everything else is in good order. The owner is very helpful. When we needed to go somewhere he drove us - free of charge.
If you are in El Valle go and check it out.

The guidebooks all state that this hotel is "a tight ship" run by a German owner. While it may have been at some point, it was little more than a good place to stay near our favorite restaurant in El Valle. The rooms were seriously outdated (70's plastic sofas and other oddities), smelled strongly of cheap cleaner, and lacked major ventilation. You will definitely get to sleep at this is not within walking distance of downtown, so long as strong cleanser smells don't bother you.
We were charged $65 for our room and received "free breakfast". We definitely got what we paid for in the "free breakfast"- neon orange eggs, kool-aid type "juice", and the worst french toast I've ever had. I would strongly recommend paying the extra $5 or $10 a night and staying at one of the many other gorgeous, well-kept, stylish, and romantic other places. There are many in the area (and some even more pricy for a fantastic experience). All have the same beautiful views of El Valle, but none of the garishness. I am not one for judging a book by it's cover, but after staying here you can clearly tell that it is not worth it for the price.
