We traveled here as a family of four (our kids are 5 and 9). We stayed in the Lotus Villa, and we loved it! Our trip was to celebrate something pretty major in our lives, so my husband called ahead to see if we could perhaps get one of the villas that were recommended on tripadvisor (we know - lots and lots of people are on a honeymoon or celebrating a major anniversary, but ours was pretty much as big a celebration as we could imagine, so we called). He spoke with Ruth at the resort (he called the hotel's number direct, not reservations), and she was totally fantastic. When we arrived, Ruth did our personalized check-in, we were early and anxious to take a dip in the ocean, my husband went with her, we went straight to the beach.
Our villa on the beach was an unexpected pleasure. We had no idea it would be so close to the beach! The second floor bed is perfectly aligned with the view of waves out front, so when I woke up in the morning, I would see the most amazing waves without even getting up.
We really appreciated Ruth’s help. She was fantastic throughout our stay (she is at the desk as well as doing personalized check-ins etc). Also, I should mention that our villa was not ready when we arrived, we were 2 hours early but Ruth knew that I had been through major medical treatments over the past year (thus the celebration), and she allowed me to rest in an un occupied suite. That was incredibly considerate, and very much appreciated. She also called our next hotel to make sure our accommodations there would be outstanding. Thanks Ruth!
We had breakfast included in our rate, and it was very good. I really enjoyed the gallo pinto, beans, egg and rice that they served. As a result of the medical treatments I underwent, eating is very difficult, so its a huge deal for me to say I enjoyed eating. Hats off to the chef for that! I think it is the first food I have enjoyed in the last year. We should email the hotel to find out what the sauce was - not the usual but very similar to Worcestershire, much better (that is, much better for me). The coconut water was perfect also for my as well as the fruits and veggies.
We ate at the pool next door a lot (it works best with young children).
Of course the food is great, everything is local and fresh for the most part. Our family of four usually spent about $60 to $65 for lunch for 4. The Isla Tortuga snorkeling tour was cool, there are so many different kinds of fish there! There was an eel living in the rocks. Don't see that everyday! House keeping was very good. One late afternoon we went for surf lessons, and when we returned, we had come in and done a second tidying up for us. I felt bad, as I had not thought that housekeeping would be through a second time that and I had not made my kids pick up their toys, so there was some disarray. But when we got back, everything was lovingly put away, and my daughter's stuffed animals were adorably arranged on her bed, with her books on the pillow ready for bedtime. That was so sweet!!! Oops, almost forgot: our bed offered some of the best nights sleeping I had had in years. The villas are relatively new, well maintained, slight signs of their age but very well kept. I think this is totally reflected in the price relative to other resorts. We were totally happy with our accommodations. Thank you Red Palm Villas and Ruth for an outstanding stay!
