“Just go there!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

This place is much better than shown on the pictures! The house has just been fully renovated and is right on the beach. It is such a relaxing place... you won't want to leave! The manager is wonderful, the place is run like a B&B and all guests were very friendly. They have boards you can borrow, hammacks for a lazy afternoon and a really cool restaurant/bar on the beach 2 doors up. You won't find better at this price. Loved it! HIGHLY recommended! Perfect for solo travelers, couples, families or small groups.

We loved Casa Cecilia! A beautiful beach, wonderful hammocks among the palm trees right next to the beach. Nice and tidy area in front of the hotel down to the beach. We had the only "second floor" room and it was perfect.

The hotel is in a bit of a remote area (at the north end of Santa Teresa beach), which is nice because it is calm and beautiful. There is a restaurant in the hotel next to Casa Cecilia 3 minutes walk on the beach and one 5 minutes away both with excellent food, maybe a bit more expensive. A small supermarket 10 minutes walk from the hotel and every room had a refrigerator (a small but not very small that you see in most hotels over the world). We bought some food that we kept in the refrigerator and we were allowed to used the hotel kitchen to prepare a salad or sandwiches for lunch. Very close to the supermarket is a restaurant with local food that is inexpensive with big food servings (apparently trying to focus on young surfers that are hungry). Breakfast is included in the stay at Casa Ceceilia and we usually got into pleasant conversations with other guests around breakfast table. One morning I brought breakfast into the room so my wife got breakfast in bed.

For a small sum the cleaning woman helped us with laundry and we got the clothes back the same day.

The best thing with Casa Cecilia though is Don who takes care of you and the hotel. He made us feel very at home and also made us breakfast every morning and gave us good tips on the surroundings and what to do. Thanks Don!

I came with a group and we stayed a week at the beautiful Casa Cecilia. The home was beautiful and the beach in the back yard was breath taking. There was ample seating outside to enjoy the view and the common areas were clean and comfortable at all times. My room had everything we needed. Don and his staff took very good care of us. Breakfast was lovely every morning and he and his staff made sure it was ready early if our day's plans required it to be. On our last morning Don had our breakfast for all 11 of us ready at 3am so we could make it to the ferry on time. He went above and beyond and was always cheerful and eager to make us comfortable. I would happily stay there again.

We traveled with a group of 11 people to Stand Up Paddleboard and experience the other activities in Santa Teresa-Mal Pais. Don is an amazing host and made sure our every need was met. He and Pia both went out of their way to make sure we were fed an amazing fresh breakfast every day before we left for our daily activities. This B&B is spotless, well maintained and a great value. The view from the open area made for a great start to every morning and a great end to every day. The hammocks are a great place to relax. This is a place where you can get away from it all!

Room Tip: All rooms are great.

You need to know a little about Santa Teresa first. Getting here is an adventure. If you are coming directly from San Jose, you'll be taking the ferry, and traveling though a few kilometers of dirt roads (don't be alarmed). We traveled around the northern part of Costa Rica and circled back to San Jose via Santa Teresa. This proved to be a greater adventure than anticipated. I could not imagine driving around this country without a GPS, though some people do. Have one, you won't be sorry. We literally traveled 100km on back woods, dirt roads, across rivers (yes rivers) to get there. If you drive from north to south, you'll need a large SUV to cross them. You would think you would hit an oasis when you arrive, but don't be fooled, Santa Teresa is a one dirt road town. Also a little word of advice, a rule of thumb is when your GPS gives you time of arrival, double it! With that being said, I had booked 2 nights at Esencia hotel. It was not the nicest place, internet is poor, and as stated in the reviews, the rooms smell, with an overall feel of dinginess. My family was not happy being there, and no restaurants on site.(we got our money back for the second night). We then traveled looking for a restaurant, which posed a challenge. We ended up at another resort that served Italian, and met a man named Don. We started talking, and said this is the best place for Italian, and it was very good. He let us know he runs Casa Cecelia and we should stop by. We did the very next morning. In the Santa Teresa realm this place was an oasis by comparison. There are only 5 rooms with the large family room being above. All face the ocean. There is no pool but the Pacific is a 100 meters or so and its warm. Don is the manager of the property, the breakfast chef (which he performs exceedingly well), the concierge, surfing instructor, and most importantly, your friend. When you stay, you'll understand. Don has given us several recommendations and each one was spot one, exactly as he stated, and exceptionally good. Without Don, our stay would have been mundane, but as it turned out the 2 days,(sadly) one night was the most memorable. If you are looking to explore and get out of the more touristy destinations, this is a place not to be missed. And if you are a surfer, this is THE PLACE TO BE.

What do you require for a relaxing beach holiday?

A space to sleep where the sound of the water reminds you of what the next day is to bring...eating colorful fresh fruits, granola and yogurt while facing the ocean in the open air living room...the best restaurant in town is only a few steps away...suspend yourself in a hammock under the trees and watch the sunset.

swimming.surfing.boogie boarding.

and yes, they have wifi.

Casa Cecilia has the best spot in Santa Teresa, particularly if you are into surfing and the beach. I stayed here before but I had a pleasant surprise this last time. the place its under new ownership and management and has been totally upgraded, rooms are all new, looking and feeling great, service amazing, Don and Pia made us feel at home. Thank you for everything, we will be back. Luis & Cristina.
