“Not good!! For me..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

Folks not good choice for me.
Went with wife and son 4y
1st day arrived át. 15hs and the room was not ready, we have to wait until 17hs!!
2nd day the A/C was not working and because was sunday nobody could repair, too hot, impossible to stay inside the room, i had to ask and discuss to get a solution, i informed the problem right in the morning and only at 19hs they took action and call another guy to repair.
3rd day the hotel was with no energy and no water for a couple hours.

The only good were the 2 guys from the restaurant Arnaldo and Manoel were nice and did a good attention.

I'll start with a complement, the grounds are nice. Now where to begin. Don't book the Superior Beach front rooms, if you do stay here which I am not recommending, rent the garden bungalows! Our room felt like a large jail cell, concrete walls floors and ceilings. The bed was uncomfortable, oh and there were stains on the sheets. You can't drink the water out of the tap, the shower pressure and temp is all over the place, and the wifi was non existent. I also killed a cockroach in the bathroom on our first night, yuck!

To keep their overhead low the front desk staff leaves around dark, so when we arrived late after flying and driving all day, and into the night, there was no one to check us in other then the night guards who speak no english, yes I know I'm in Costa Rica, but when the majority of the country speaks english, and you charge this much, I have some base expectations. Outside the building where our room was located, there was a noticeable odor of sewage.

The food was mediocre at the hotel, and unlike every other place we stayed in Costa Rica nothing was included. We stayed at places that were almost half as much and they still served us breakfast.

Also all the rooms are super easy to break into, so lock your valuables. This place is sandwiched between the main road and the beach so there is a lot of traffic thus all the guards they hire to patrol the grounds. To make matters worse, my wife lost her phone on the last day while swinging on one of the hammocks next to the beach, and when we went back 20 mins later to look for it, it was gone!

Finally, we were over charged for our food at the restaurant. You settle up at the end of your stay for the food and other amenities. The bill I saw at our meal did not match what the front desk charged us for our breakfast on site. When I asked for them to produce the receipt from the meal two mornings earlier, they said they didn't have it, BS! Lesson learned, always ask for a copy of any receipts when stuff is charged to your room, otherwise they may take advantage of you. This "classy establishment" apparently only takes cash to settle up, but surprise surprise, after we argued that we had no cash, and about to walk away in udder frustration, BAM, they busted out their credit card machine. If you consider yourself a legit hotel, and you have internet service, yet you try to extort cash from guests, I call you freekin liars! Not professional!

From the cute bungalows to the beautiful grounds, the beach, the yoga in the morning, the spa this hotel is a winner. Would have given a 5 but the restaurant is strange. Kind of upscale but weird combinations of food. It would be better to have a buffet breakfast, laid back lunch and grilled seafood specialties for dinner. Highly reccomend. Great beach, fun walking up the dirt road to try the many restaurants along the way.

Beautiful hotel spread out on the beach in a remote locale.
PROS: beautiful as expected on the coastline. good food and drinks and service. The language barrier made communication an effort but handled with understanding. Nice rooms. Hot water. Nice pool, immaculate yard, lots a yoga. Grocery across the street.
CONS: very remote and the roads suck. Very dusty roads. Iguanas crap in the pool. really HOT water in the shower. $$$

Note: whoever complained and gave a poor rating about the towels being too rough and the bugs and the hot water... shame on you. This is a good place.

Room Tip: dont stay by the street... too dusty and occasionally loud

This hotel is located PERFECTLY if you are a beach baby or like to hang out in town. The staff are very nice and the landscape/layout of the property is excellent. We stayed in a standard room for a week, then upgraded to a Beachfront room for our anniversary - just sayin'... Stick to the standard room. The pictures of the rooms online are deceiving. After being there for a week, I would advise for you to pick ANY garden view room before ANY beachfront room. One would assume visa versa as beachfront seems luxurious...but the layout of the rooms are off and the area of the property is far less interesting and beautiful as the garden view rooms and bungalows.

I will come back again and will refer friends to stay at this hotel!

The restaurant was 5 stars! Beautiful dishes, good prices, excellent flavor. Great job on such a wonderful Restaurant, very very successful. Wish more people ate there, only one or two tables the whole time we were there - which was shocking because it was so good!

We spent almost 3 weeks driving through Panama and Costa Rica in February, 2013 and only stayed in each location 1 - 3 days. By the time we got to our last destination (Mal Pais), we were ready to relax and unwind in one location for our last 5 nights. And we were so thankful that we had chosen Tropico Latino. The property was perfect. It felt very private with bungalow-style rooms surrounded by gardens, a great pool overlooking the water, awesome food and a beautiful beach with lounge chairs and hammocks. The yoga studios both overlook the water and the classes were great. We loved everything about it!

The location of the Hotel was PERFECT! Right across the street is a local market and surf shop. Only a 5 to 10 minute walk to town and excellent places to eat all around! As vegetarians/vegans, the market across the street was IDEAL for fresh fruit and the Barefoot Gormet deli and market was only a few minutes away as well, offering organic produce.

The grounds were VERY well kept by the friendliest gardener you'll ever meet. We found fresh limes, starfruit, mangos, and coconuts on the property to enjoy which was an amazing treat! The beach is right there! The pool is a nice touch. Wildlife (iguanas, agaoti, monkeys, variety of birds) was so much fun to experience for our first time in Costa Rica. An easy spot for killer photos of wildlife, vegetation, and the beach!

The staff was unbelievable! From the gardener to the receptionist to the wait staff to the maids, it was MORE than excellent. There was even security gaurds patrolling the property to make you feel extra, extra safe. We had several times where we left the rooms for hours and forgot to lock the door and never had any problems!

Hotel Tropico Latino was the perfect place to stay! We are very happy with our decision and if we return to Santa Teresa, we will be booking our rooms here.

The rooms were very nice. Basic and clean.

Room Tip: We stayed in the basic suites (king bed with small twin) and they were very nice and private. A lit...
