“Very Relaxing Place to Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2011

We just got back from a 5 night stay at Playa Cielo and it was just what we were looking for. The villa was very large and comfortable and had a small kitchen. The patio was fantastic - couch, 2 hammocks, and a dining table... perfect! It was a nice spot to get out of the hot sun and do some reading or napping. The beach is right out your front door. Surfing is a short walk to the left or right of the beach. The waves were a little big when we were there so we ended up renting a truck for the weekend and heading to Playa Hermosa where the beach break is a little nicer. I've been to Santa Teresa a few times solo and normally stay at a surf camp, but this time was with my wife and we wanted something secluded and romantic... 5 stars on both counts. The pool was a great place to cool off when it got hot in the day.

The town center is about a 10 minute walk down the beach or road. There's a bunch of grocery stores, shops, and restaurants along the way. Eti was watching over the place while we were there and had great restaurant recommendations and helped us book the canopy tour and our rental truck. It was a completely stress free vacation after the first day since Delta got us to San Jose 5 hours late and we missed our Sansa flight... but a couple hectic cab rides and a ferry eventually got us to Playa Cielo.... very late, but we were able to get into our room and have a good nights rest.

Each morning you get a tasty fruit platter and a croissant or bread. There are plenty of places nearby if want a bigger breakfast or grab some extra stuff at the grocery stores. US dollars are pretty much accepted everywhere although you will get colones back in change. Generally the exchange rate is good, but I always find it easier to get a bunch of colones the first day.

One small complaint that is probably completely American to mention - there was no bar soap or shampoo in the bathroom. One of these vacations I will remember to pack my own so it's not a problem, but the grocery stores are cheap and had plenty on hand so it's not that big of a deal. There was some liquid hand soap and what we think was moisturizer (but weren't completely sure) so bring your own if you're like us. Other than that relatively small detail it was a great place to stay and we'll be back next time we're in Santa Teresa.

This place is amazing! My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights and it was paradise! The place is new, very clean and really beautiful. Best of all it's located right on the beach. You literally walk out your bungalow door and you can see the ocean. Check it out if you have the chance - you will NOT regret it.

We fell in love with the small town of Santa Teresa, as we did with Playa Cielo. We were immediately welcomed by the staff and shown the property. It was gorgeous and the aroma of lavender permeated the air. We were lucky that there was one bungalow open that day. So we took it! We were hidden away safely among the trees. Except for the occasional monkey family that wanted to make their way through the trees.
The bungalow is a one room large spacious area, which accommodates in the center of the room a king sized bed with mosquito netting covering the bed. There were lots of candles and buddhist figurines placed in many different places. Therefore, it gave off a very warm mood of a buddhist atmosphere.

I had never experienced this before but the shower was enclosed yet open to the sky. I loved it because it was like showering with nature. There is also another shower on the outside of the bungalow, but that is to take off the salt.
The room also provided for a small kitchenette with its utensils, cups, and plates.
Every morning we woke up with a large plate of fresh fruit.
The lady that cleans, Antonia was so sweet, attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. And the grounds keeper, Porfilio worked very hard. He kept the property very well manicured and maintained. The pool area was very beautiful, clean and relaxing. They had towels provided for you at all times. No one could bother you there. I felt untouchable. I often did not want to leave from there. From the pool you can see the beach. When we would go out he also acted as security as well and would open the gates of the Playa Cielo property. Round the clock attention. That made me feel safe.
The owner Adele was very accommodating, very helpful and very kind. I could tell that she was working hard to keep Playa Cielo’s, tranquility and beauty. The entire staff spoiled us! I was not only impressed by the location, the architecture and the ambiance but the love and care and protection that I received from the staff. Thank you!

Without an itinerary, reservation or plan, I was looking for a place to spend a few nights. Upon entering the property, I was warmly greeted and shown the accommodations. I need not look any further; paradise found! My single room bungalow was spacious, elegant and luxurious. I was delighted with the thoughtful, eco-conscious design and local materials used. From the king size bed (very comfortable by the way) in the center of the room, I opened the French doors and watched the surf. The bathroom had an enclosed, open to the sky shower/tub. It just kept getting better. Each morning, a platter of fresh fruits was left on my table. The beach was clean and sparsely populated, with beautiful waves where I watched the surfers play. This is also a great place for sunsets over the Pacific. The grounds and pool were well maintained and enough to keep you from exploring further. But within walking distance are some local restaurant/bars worth checking out. There was no down-side to this trip. I would have to return to the same location for future vacations, knowing a sure bet awaits.

While looking for a place to stay in Santa Teresa, we decided to check out Playa Cielo. After seeing what was available around the area, we weren't expecting much but were pleasantly surprised when we saw inside one of the bungalows. It has high ceilings and was clean & nicely furnished with an American touch. It has a comfortable king size bed, a large flat screen TV, a small kitchenette with a coffee maker, stove and refrigerator, safe, an air conditioner and ceiling fan. It has a sofa with pull out bed so 4-5 people can stay in the room. The bathroom is modern with an enclosed open sky shower. The porch has 2 hamlets and faces the ocean and pool and we had breakfast of fresh fruits, delivered to our room every morning, outside in the serene surrounding. It was paradise as we left all our troubles behind for a few days.

There are 3 bungalows inside a safe, quiet and gated area. The only other neighbors around were the monkeys in nearby trees who came to welcome us in the early evening of our first day. The staff is hardworking and alert. Adele, the proprietor, is originally from NYC and is very friendly, and is very hands on and can always be contacted when needed.

The only minor inconveniences that we experienced during our stay were the Internet connection was slow and sometimes unreliable, the open sky shower is awkward when it rains and that there’s a hefty fee when a credit card is used to pay.

Overall, we love this place and would definitely go back! We will also recommend it to all our friends and anyone who visits Santa Teresa.

Loved the accommodations. Very comfortable and clean with excellent on-beach location. Beach is not great for swimming, but very beautiful. Adele (owner) was very helpful in recommending and setting up activities.

The main part of Santa Teresa was a bit of a walk, but a market was in short walking distance.
