“Heavenly. Run by the two coolest American ex-pats on earth plus PIRATE RADIO”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012 via mobile

Lee and Jane, who now own and operate this A++ resort have turned it into a perfect combination of where Kieth Richards would have taken The Stones for "Exile on Mainstreet" if Costa Rica was their destination instead of France... and just the absolute best destination resort on the Nicoya Peninsula. They are all at once providing a family atmosphere (or a comfortable wholesome hedonistic one) where a bohemian, surfer, rocker or just a hip family looking for a secluded, sprawling, GORGEOUS resort destination in paradise can find their dream vacation spot. Part of your heart will never leave this place once you stay here with them. -world traveler 15 plus years p.s. - lee(a famous Florida ex-pat radio man) even operates a pirate radio broadcast from the resort!!! How amazing!!!!

“The perfect location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2011

We stayed at El Rey for 6 weeks and loved it.
Gustavo, Javier, Raquel and Kimberli made us feel so welcome. The location of this place is probably the best in the whole Santa Teresa area as the beach is literally 2 seconds from your bungalow/room door and we had the beach to ourselves every single day.
At each low tide there is a massive tide pool right in front of El Rey where we swam and snorkelled with so many different fish, it was beautiful.
Breakfast is included in the room charge and we always had a choice of Gallo Pinto or fruit and toast and eggs and unlimited, delicious coffee. Lunch and dinner is also available and the choice and quality was very good. If you eat here for lunch or dinner then you must try the onion pizza, it is the best pizza we have ever eaten.
Gustavo also runs the Perfect Sunset School where you can learn Spanish or surfing or both. Being surfers ourselves we appreciated seeing Gustavo in action as an instructor and his knowledge and patience were second to none and the emphasis was always on having fun.....just as it should be.
We highly recommend staying at El Rey and will definitely be returning as soon as we can.

“Phenomanal stay at Rey Patricio”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2011

This place is paradise! Find different kind of pristine and nearly lonesome beaches right in front or very close to the hotel: for snorkelling, swimming, surfing (all levels). Or enjoy nature and its wildlife which is surrounding this stunning place. The rooms are clean and comfy and fall asleep with the soothing rythm of the Ocean. The sunsets are breathtaking, simply unforgettable!!! The hosts, Javier and Gustavo do their utmost to make you feel comfortable. Last but not least, don't miss their delicious food.

“Awesome stay in Santa Teresa!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2011

Just returned from spending the holidays at El Rey Patricio in Santa Teresa Costa Rica. I travel quite alot & cant remember a holiday I enjoyed more in long time. El Rey Patricio is right up the road from the town center, across from the beach, quiet, clean & comfortable with gorgeous views of the sea & the most amazing sunset! 2 great guys from Argentina Javier & Gustavo make you feel at home in their awesome piece of paradise. Gustavo is a great surf instructor & spanish teacher. He did an amazing job helping us catch waves & we cant wait to return for more, thanks again Gustavo! Enjoy the morning coffee (im a coffee snob so i dont say that lightly)& breakfast before surfing or exploring & then return for lunch or dinner. I recommend the pizza with carmelized onions DELISH! Tons of fun to be had in Santa Teresa town as well, great food, bars, beaches, cant wait to go back especially with snow in NYC!!! Highly recommend El Rey! ENJOY!

“Best trip ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2011

My friend and I have just returned from Costa Rica and we are already planning our next trip back, thanks to the incredible time we had at El Rey Patricio. The hotel was really great, with our cabana over looking the pristine waters of Costa Rica. The rooms were clean and spacious, and the cabana deck was the perfect place for us to catch up on all the days activities- which included learning how to surf courtesy of the Sunset Surf School at the hotel. Gustavo our surf instructor, was an excellent instructor and made my friend and I feel very safe & comfortable in the water, not to mention catch a few waves and improve our surfing. I would highly recommend him!! We also really enjoyed hanging out at the hotel since the staff was so warm and inviting, and the food there was delicious. While I ate a ton of delicious food in Mal Pais, I really miss my coffee and pinto breakfast in the morning, and my steak kabobs in the evening at El Rey Patricio. And don't pass up the pizza because you will be shocked by how fresh & crispy it is.
