“Relaxed surf styled hideaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013 via mobile

Our first trip to Pacific Surf Studios and won't be our last with a bit of luck! The studios are well styled, and give you a great place to relax after surf lessons - an activity that is both really rewarding and yet utterly frustrating at times. Availing yourself of an instructor makes all the difference

We loved having a place to consider home, with a proper kitchen and a nicely private outdoor area for meals and the odd snooze on the hammock

Our room was cleaned daily and the grounds staff actively tended to the pool area. There was ways someone one hand to sort surfboards and help with arrangements. Having used one of their discounted ATVs to explore a little of Santa Teresa and Pal Mai we're convinced we made an excellent choice.

We'll also miss Coco the Doberman! - great companion for our many trips to the beach and the local shops.

We stayed at Pacifica a few years ago and enjoyed it so we booked our room there again,,,, we were very disappointed with how run down the place has become... the grounds, the pool, and the cleaning service. There was dog poo everywhere including a few feet from the pool which stayed there for a fews days before anyone decided to clean it up. There was an empty can of tuna fish (gross) on one of the table near the pool that remained there all week! We were unable to use outdoor shower because it was covered in bees. We actually bought our own cleaning supplies and cleaned our room just so we could feel comfortable. Again, such a difference in a few short years....

We are very diligent, especially during our peak months; and despite the challenges of studio living in a tropical environment, we ensure our property is maintained and manicured as best of possible. As a reminder, our studios are fully booked during the early year, and no other guests ever mentioned the issues you cited, nor have they in the past (please reference other reviews from the same period of your trip). I am on-site daily, living here during this very busy and full season, and would never allow nor tolerate the property to be in a condition you described (again, reference companion reviews for corroboration). Regarding one of your primary concerns: There is no way to have an outdoor rinsing shower near our pool, in the middle of a juggle, in the height of the dry season without attracting various wild life who themselves haven't access to fresh water as they do here near the beach. Santa Teresa is not an urban geography. There will be an interaction with wild life that is simply unavoidable - like seeing iguanas and birds sharing a drink in the puddles underneath the fresco shower spot. Withstanding, along with my staff, our primary objective is to consistently provide you with a beautifully memorable surfing experience, accommodation and holiday. We simply live among nature, and will not kill or destroy the environment which hosts us on your behalf.

Spent a week at the studios ensconced in a well-appointed, clean, safe and surf-induced haze-of-mind courtesy of PSS! The property is seconds from the beach tucked away on a barely perceptible pathway connecting the ocean-front to Santa Teresa's "main street". I was in one of the 4-ground floor studios overlooking the pool. Breakfast with the omnipresent Coco (the owner's charming Doberman), formal surf lessons with arguably the most impressive surf mentor I could have ever hoped for (Paoblo), and lazy afternoons laid-out in my studio patio's hammock, all my expectations were exceeded. Just enough privacy to feel remote, but also just enough company to feel connected, the hotel is perfectly sized to give the feeling that you're really just at a vacation cottage chilling out with a small number of like-minded friends. The rooms are spacious and the bathroom fairly sized. My studio was always cleaned by noon, and the floors of both my terrace and studio mopped thoroughly. Though I didn't make use of any of the ATV's, my "neighbors" seemed to take advantage of them, renting one for the week so to have access to further areas of the ocean to thus pursue more challenging and/or better waves. There's a little outdoor bar area with comfortable sofas and poofs adjacent to the pool area that offers happy hour and post-sun set drinks daily, and appetizers on special days during the week (in my case, it was Monday and there was a local DJ who was overseeing just the right music for the ambiance for our particular small gathering). There's a grocery/convenience store less than 10-minutes walk, along with cafes and local restaurants offering very reasonably priced menus just on the main drag. The grocery store is a bit overpriced but that's expected given the location. PSS was able to coordinate all my transportation needs, including the door-to-door transportation back to San Jose airport. They have boards and surf lessons for all people of all skill sets. I was mostly impressed with just how accommodating the staff was and how accessible Simone the owner was, along with his GM (Pepe). My room had adequate WI-FI with the signal growing stronger the closer I was to the pool or main reception area near the entrance. Overall, I'd return in a heart beat, probably staying longer, and renting an ATV to add to the 'local' adventure factor. Highlights for me was watching the sunset with my friends every night, and returning for a moon lit swim at the pool, sharing and regaling in surf stories of the day with other guests! ... Low-light for me was having to say adios to Coco, my loyal early morning jogging security detail, and dedicated lunch & dinner companion par excellence! ...

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the registration desk will have stronger internet, but will appear slightly noisier...

I just spent a week at Pacifica Surf Studios and I would have stayed longer if I could have! The accommodations were perfect, the location superb and the staff completely welcoming, warm and friendly. The owner, Simone, and manager, Pepe, (oh and lets not forget the sweetest Doberman pinscher I ever met, Coco) were available to answer any and all questions and to ensure our stay was to our satisfaction. The rooms were large and spacious and the king size bed is exactly what is needed after spending the day in the Pacific learning to surf and swimming in the pool in the afternoon. On several mornings we saw monkeys outside of our room grazing the tree tops for food. The local food was amazing, everywhere we went. Taxi's were easy to locate. And last, but certainly not lease, our surf instructor, Pablo, was the most amazing teacher ever! He was full of knowledge, encouragement and totally fun to be with! As fairly new to surfing, I left feeling confident, excited and anxious to return in the future. I would recommend this to anyone looking to learn to surf.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great here! The one I stayed in was on the upstairs at the further side of the po...

the location of this place is right on the spot for the best brake in the area. you will get waves every day!!! the smoothies bar is great and you can enjoy some great drinks during the day.
its a very quit place hidden in the jangle far from the noise and the dust from the street.
if you looking for a quite clean comfortable place with a good AC to escape the mid day heat, this is the place.

Room Tip: the rooms on the second floor have a great blocky and best view.

We spent a week in Santa Teresa at Pacifica Surf Studios and will definitely go back. The place is just off the "main drag" which makes it very close walking distance to restaurants and shops. It's also only 2 minutes from the beach which was great for morning and evening walks. We don't surf, but, the waves right in front of the hotel were good and there was no lack of surfing happening. The rooms are large and roomy with a private balcony where we had coffee every morning and listened to the howler monkeys. The pool is perfect for cooling off in the afternoon as it was in the 90's while we were there. Coco, the owner's doberman, was a perfect guide. She walked with us on the beach every day! It's just overall a very relaxing place. Perfect for vacation!!

This is by far the best place to stay if you are interested in a clean, safe, quiet and close location to the beach. Simone the owner was wonderful and the staff was great. We had our toilet leaking and fixed right away. The location is 100 ft from the beach and right off the main trail. A/C was perfect and pool was clean. There is a night guard on premises and coco the dog was always around to make sure everything was in check. Get price and will be staying here the next time I come for sure. Recommend no other place in Santa Teresa than this place!!
