“Staying at cuesta arriba”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

I stayed 4 days at this hostel, which is a really nice place. Really clean and cosy, with a nice pool to chill at. The kitchen is very clean and has everything you need to cook a nice meal. The owners will help you out with pretty much everything. You can rent a bike or a surf board (all nsp boards, which is good for beginners) straight at the hostel, but there are a lot of other shops not far away.

definitely a good place to stay.

Just love this place!
For so many reasons :
1. The mattress at the dorm room - So comfortable !
2. Such a friendly management and guests...
3. Super clean and quiet ( but not too quiet - I met there so many great people !)
4. Great location for surf - right in front of the best surf spot at Santa teresa.
5. Good coffee in the morning
6. Amazing pool !
There is only just one major problem - Its very hard to leave this place :)

Thank you Yanay for your review!!! We are happy that you had a good time. The waves are still good here (as they are pretty much year round). Hope you find good ones wherever you go. Enjoy the ride!!!

The staff was extremely nice, friendly and helpful. It is two steps away from the beautiful Santa Teresa beach and very nice restaurants. The hotel is very clean and has a great atmosphere. The last thing we wanted to to was leave this place! Will definitely come back soon :)

Cuesta Arriba was an amazing hostel to stay in, and it was my first time ever staying in a hostel. Martin was extremely accommodating and helpful. He helped arrange bike rentals, surf lessons, my hostel back in San Jose for when I was leaving, etc. I didn't have to go far to rent my surf board because Martin had boards to rent. I recommend heading to Playa Santa Teresa and staying at Cuesta Arriba to everyone I talk to about Costa Rica...

My friend and I were guests for two days in the middle of July 2013 and have only rave reviews. Most of our interaction was with Barbara and it was all very positive. We actually called the night before we were planning to come (we had rented a car) and she advised us to wait until morning to arrive because of a bad storm brewing and also helped us decide on the best route to take to get there. I had left a pair of shoes at our previous hostel and she helped me contact the owner and find a way to get the shoes back to me. She answered our many questions and helped with travel plans. My friend and I stayed in an 8 person mixed dorm and the room was great. The kitchen was clean and fully functional. There is a small breakfast included in the morning. Other amenities included surfboards and bikes for rent, available laundry service and an impeccable pool. And their sweet, well-mannered English Mastiff, Bica (I think I'm spelling that right), puts the finishing touches on this charming hostel. Stay if you can--you won't regret it!

All the staff is very friendly and always around to help out. Lots to do - swimming pool, bike rentals, surf lessons and rentals, tour arrangements, and more! The whole property is beautiful while still having a casual feel. Love the close-knit, friendly environment. I definitely recommend Cuesta Arriba to anyone looking for a great place to stay at a great price.

Cuesta was recommended to me by the Lonely Planet guide, and I was not disappointed with my stay. The rooms and common areas are clean and well cared-for. The owners are friendly and available all day to rent bikes, surfboards, and arrange lessons. The wifi connection is strong. Cuesta is a bit removed from the town center of Playa del Carmen/Santa Theresa, which is both a blessing and a curse; on the one hand, it's nice to be somewhat removed the noisy main drag, with its endless stream of passing ATVs and loud single-stroke motorcycles, and the beach across from hostel is one of the nicest in the area. On the other hand, restaurant options nearby are somewhat limited. Aside from the soda next door and supermarket down the block, the closest strip of restaurants to Cuesta is perhaps a 10 minute walk south. Cuesta is also *slightly* more expensive then other hostels in the area, with dorm beds for USD$13/night and privates for $35 - $45/night. Overall, however, I would highly recommend Cuesta as a place to stay in Santa Theresa!

Dear traveler. We are very happy to read that your stay at Cuesta arriba Hotel was good and you rated us with a "very good" however we are surprised that you didn't find any restaurantes close by. We have like five restaurantes within 5 minutes walk north and south including pizzerias, coffee shops, tapas style restaurantes, costa rican style restaurants etc. Santa teresa Center is just 4 blocks away and you'll find everything within a short distance except for the banks and the farmacy that are located 3 Km away in Mal Pais.
Price wise...we only charge 2 extra dollars than the average dorm in town but we offer more facilities and services so in the end it is worth it. We offer a complimentary coffee and toast, a sparkling swimming pool, a clean and well equipped kitchen, our rooms are cleaned daily, great wifi connection, a huge garden with trees and wildlife and much more!!!
Thank you again for your nice review!!!
Cheers
