“It feels like home!”

We showed up in Santa Teresa with no place to stay and while having dinner our server recommended zula inn and we are so thankful he did. We were only supposed to stay one night and ended up staying for six. The hotel is owned by two brothers and they are there daily making sure their guests feel at home. They are so friendly, fun and a wealth of information about Costa Rica. The rooms are individual cabins and are very clean, comfortable and have a fully equipped kitchen. The cleaning staff is so friendly and they make cute towel animals daily. They also own a restaurant a couple doors down and the food is phenomenal! I highly suggest staying at zula inn while visiting Santa Teresa! I will definitely be back again!

unbelievable service and owner of hotel made us feel like we were family. Hands down the best experience and I would recommend Zula Inn to everyone. We were so surprised at the level of service, cleanliness and warm, genuine staff. I would come to Costa Rica just to stay at Zula Inn. They made us fall in love with Santa Teresa.

We arrived in Santa Teresa at dark so we basically just picked the first place we came across. It was less than great, so we ventured out the following day to find a better place. That is when we happened across Zula Inn. Once we saw it, we knew we had to stay there. The landscaping was like a tropical garden surrounding the pools and bungalows. The pool area has a really cool common lounge area where you can sit and visit with the other guests or your friends. We spent a lot of time by the pool.

The bungalows are cozy with plenty of room. They are extremely well kept and clean. The fact that there is a kitchen complete with stove and fridge provides lots of added functionality and flexibility. The water was always hot also, which is sometimes hard to find in Costa Rica.

The owners/managers live on site and I found them to be extremly accomodating and welcoming. They also own the Zula Restaraunt down the street and it is outstanding as well.

If you are planning a trip to Santa Teresa or Mal Pais, I urge you to check out Zula Inn.

In early August 2011 my boyfriend and I spent one night in San José (fyi it's $25 ride from the airport, there isn't much to see, and it is no vacation spot.) The next day we took a SANSA charter plane to Tambor and a taxi provided by Zula Inn to Santa Teresa. We stayed at Zula Inn for 6 days and we were so happy with our decision. Avi and Rotum were relaxed and extremely helpful dudes, splitting their time between surfing / working at Zula Inn / working at their delicious Zula restaurant down the road (which you MUST visit - we had the most flavorful chicken shish kebab and chicken hummus, complete with at least five sauces.) Our bungalow was simple, clean, had AC (it is hot and humid down there), and a kitchen to prepare breakfast (buy pineapple) in the morning and eat it outside on the patio furniture. We enjoyed cooling off in the nice pool, sitting in the hammocks and comfy chairs, and observing the local wildlife (monkeys, dogs, kitties, iguanas, geckos, etc. The monkeys might wake you up so bring earplugs.) Zula Inn is located in the middle-ish off Santa Teresa so there are restaurants on either side of you, and a beach entrance and grocery store only 100 feet away (Fyi there is ONE dusty road that runs through the town. Luckily Zula Inn is far away from the dust and noise of the road.) During our time in Santa Teresa we surfed, boogie-boarded, went zip-lining in Mal País, went to a yoga class, rented an ATV from Zula Inn (that's how most people get around on that one dirt road, costs $60 per day) and we used our ATV to check out the water falls on the other side of the peninsula in Montezuma (Warning, you should avoid the 10 k road from Montezuma to Santa Teresa because it is washed out and dangerous in August. Also, there isn't a trail to the Montezuma falls -- you must carefully walk along the steep banks and cross over to the right side when the water is shallow..) Avi & Rotum will give you details on all of these activities! We were so happy to find Zula Inn - clean, economical, private, air-conditioned, with a kitchen, by the grocery store with personable / helpful owners. We would LOVE to return to Santa Teresa and Zula Inn in the future!

Rotum and Avi run an excellent hotel in Santa Teresa. I felt very much at home while staying at Zula Inn with amenities including jungle patio with clean pool, hammocks, honor system cold beer/soft drink bar and clean apartments with kitchen. There is also an abundance of wildlife present including howler monkeys, iguanas, kittens, dogs, fruit bats and parrots that drop by to say hello. Staying with Rotum and Avi was like staying with family, they go beyond the call of duty to make sure your stay in Malpais/Santa Teresa is a pleasant one. Want to know where to surf on a particular swell? They are dialed in to all the reef/point/beach breaks and will share their intimate knowledge of the surf. Need off road wheels or a jungle excursion? They will set it up for you. How about a massage to ease you into vacation? They have beautiful and friendly masseuses on call for you. I rarely return to the same vacation destination twice, but Zula Inn will be my new mainstay relaxation/surf trip for many years to come. I highly recommend Zula Inn. --Mario Melendez (Encinitas CA USA)

I traveled with my boyfriend last may in costa rica and Santa Teresa was one of our favorites. We slept in Rotem's aparthotel called 'zula inn' and it was great. its perfect for couples and also for friends that travel together. The place is clean, quiet, beautiful and answers every request you have. The pool and the bar, like everything in the aparthotel, make you feel in a resort. I recomend you to go there and you will not regret it!
