We spent our last two nights dining at Abbocato, and it was by far the best dining experience I have encountered. We arrived the first night and were greeted by the owners and chefs (Husband and Wife if I understand correctly) who explained the menu and ushered us in. We had drinks on the patio while watching the sunset and waiting for the food to begin. For those interested, the chef creates two set of 4 courses, 1 meat based, and 1 seafood. My wife and I split the two choices between us, and nothing touched our mouths that we did not enjoy, love, or want to have more of. The starting appetizers were wonderfully flavorful and surprising combinations that would be indicative of the remainder of the night. The next course is a soup that is poured over the choice of meat, or a grain based dish (ravioli, risotto, etc). The soups were always combinations of spices and bases that really deeply layered the taste excellently, and the grain dishes were some of the richest and strong flavors of the night. The following main dishes were extremely full flavored and wonderfully prepared meats with touches of excellent sauces and paired veggies, culminating the palate some of the most exquisite food we have tasted. After a brief respite we had dessert, which is open to choice as opposed to pre-determined like the rest of the meal. The cheesecake was my favorite and the creme brulee was excellent.
This entire 4 course experience was only $45 a person (excluding drinks) and we could not have been happier with all aspects of the time we spent dining here.
If you are any where near papagayo during your stay in Costa Rica, making Aboocato a stop on your journey is highly recommended and you will not be dissatisfied.
