“Outstanding Staff and Luxurious Grounds...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013

As a family of four(kids 2 1/2 and 5) from Alaska, we picked the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica to be sure we completely thawed out. Starting out our trip with Casa Conde Del Mar was a smart move...the sun shone everyday, all day and when the heat was on, we enjoyed the "best pool ever" or relaxing in the very comfortable and clean room. The baby pool was great for both kids to play when we wanted to relax on lawnchairs. Howler Monkies, Resident Iguana's, and Tropical Birds Galore entertained us daily. The staff befriended us and it was sad to leave after 9 days of getting to know eachother. The breakfast bar was excellent and we dined for a fabulous Valentine's Dinner that I'll never forget. The live musicians were a nice touch to their open dining room. Our kids had a horse ride on the beach and my husband went fishing on a boat one day and a caught a couple red snappers that the restaurant prepared for us for another memorable dinner. I went snorkeling another day and that was a nice break from the kids. The gray sands beach was clean and very family friendly. We enjoyed Sunday on the beach with the Costa Ricans who travelled far and wide to spend it with their families. Very entertaining! We made fires on the beach and roasted hotdogs and marshmellows a few evenings at sunset. Without a car, you can feel stranded here if you plan to say awhile..thought they have an acitivity desk that will take you almost anywhere. We flew to Liberia from San Jose...rented a car at the end of our stay here to then explored inland to Monteverde, Lake Arenal...La Fortuna and back to San Jose. Highly recommend Casa Conde Del Mar. Que sitio mas bonito!

I really enjoyed this property. The rooms were clean and adequate, I believe they were recently remodeled. The parrots and mccaws sang in the morning at breakfast. The location is a little out of the was and it is a short drive into Coco beach, but that makes it all the better. Breakfast was good, and the massage out toward the beach was very relaxing. The only problem, which is not within the hotels control, was the various wildfires burning in the area, it made it hard to enjoy the outdoors with all of the smoke.

I reserved this hotel on hotels.com and we were very pleasantly surprised. The grounds were beautifully maintained, the room spacious. Entry had a portico with comfy chairs. Big swimming pool if one does not like the black sand of the beach. Breakfast was a generous buffet in happy setting in- and outdoors. WE can recommend this for anyone wanting to relax!

Room Tip: Rooms in the middle face the pool. Larger rooms are set back.

The hotel is in a lovely setting, right on the beach. there were countless birds, and we saw howler monkeys each day. There is a wonderful large pool, and beautiful grounds. Meals were great, especially the dinner on the beach our last night, complete with traditional music and ships out on the water.

This hotel is a bit remote, but if you have a car and can get around, it is a lovely place to stay. There are just 20 rooms, five single story buildings with four units each. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the pool area is fantastic. There is a large pool for children along with a little playground, and an adjacent pool for adults with a swim-up bar. The hotel sits right on the beach, and the water is very calm. Howler monkeys are a common site, and can be seen early in the morning as the mothers and their babies feed among the trees along the beach. There are also many wonderful birds, and they will visit your table during breakfast if you aren't careful. The rooms are quite basic and could use a little updating, but the beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean. There are two queen beds spaced quite far apart, and a long desk with drawers on each end. The rooms are large enough to accommodate a couple of nice chairs for sitting, but there were none in the room. However, each unit has a private patio with two chairs - a nice place to sit in the mornings and evenings. The rooms are air conditioned; the units make a bit of noise, but they did not keep us awake. The restaurant does a nice job on both breakfast and dinner (we did not eat lunch here). Breakfast is buffet with an omelet bar. The buffet is nicely displayed with a wide variety of fruits and pastries, cereals, juices, and omelets made to order. We ate dinner here every night and were never disappointed. The service was excellent and every meal was nicely done. The menu offers a wide variety of choices, and everyone in our group was pleased. We went into Playa Coco one day for lunch and ate at Casa del Mar - food and service were excellent. All in all, this is a nice place to stay.

Let me start off by saying the rooms are very basic. Pool was great and access to beach couldn't be easier. Meal at the restauraunt was overpriced but the setting was nice. The Swim up bar was nice and the bartender was good and friendly! For the price of the room this is a great alternative. Location is tricky but thats not always a bad thing.

The first impression I had when I arrived in this hotel was how well the gardens were maintained. Everything looks green and properly cut, flowers everywhere, many tall trees and a nicely warm environment. Usually, when gardens are properly cared, the rest of the location follows. And for this small hotel this seems to work just fine. They gave me and my family a welcome drink and immediately checked us in to a room nearby the pool. This pool is large enough for multiple groups to be having fun at the same time without interrupting each other. I spent a lot of time with my 3 years old daughter there, and we mixed that time with some beach time. The hotel is located in front of the Panama Beach, which is a public place, but it is also a nice location to spend the day. I enjoyed both quiet time playing in the sand, and some action time in Jet Ski, which you can rent at the beach for a good price.
During our two nights stay we noticed several people watching birds, as the hotel is also located by a protected area. But we also saw many wild animals visiting the property, mostly at night. This is common, and if you don't like to see these animals at all this might not be the place for you to come. I don't mind seeing raccoon or iguanas around, so this added to the nice stay.

There are only two areas for improvement in the hotel: one of them is the food. The restaurant at the hotel offers food that is intended to be fine cuisine, but as long as we tried it, it does not reach the same quality level as the rest of the hotel. So, while the hotel installations are nice, the restaurant charges above the food quality. This can be easily improved, but they need to work this out. The second one is the noise isolation in the rooms. You can hear what's happening in the room next door, so depending on your neighbors, you may have a loud or a quiet night.

I would recommend this place to people who like to spend quiet time with their families in a safe environment.

Room Tip: Pick the rooms ending with 1 or 5, as they have better views, and only one possible neighbor (they a...
