“Vacation September 2012”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2012

Our 7 day stay in Costa Rica was awesome. We used Brayan of Issy's Tours for all of our excursions. Both he and the tour guides were helpful and fantastic. We would highly recommend their company. He can be found on the beach right at the hotel. As far as the resort, the food was good, the service exemplary and the people there were very friendly. One problem we had was that our a/c kept going out about every other night in our room and so we spent several hours off and on very hot. They couldn't seem to get that rectified. Another downside was the price for the taxi's from the hotel. If you are with other people they charge you $40.00 round trip total. If someone else rides with you (say another guest you don't know), they charge them $40.00 as well. We didn't feel this was fair. All in all it was a great vacation and we had a wonderful time! Would definately recommend going.

Room Tip: Get in the front of the hotel or else your walk to the lobby and food will be pretty far. The lobby...

My family and I visited Guanacaste, Costa Rica in June, 2012. We used Mardigi tours for four excursions. They were wonderful. Marvin is so much fun and full of knowledge of his country. He became "Uncle Marv" for my children and niece. Mark also took us to Monteverde and the tour included the butterfly and hummingbird exhibits, and on the skywalk tour Mark went very slowly so he could find all the plant and animal life he could show to us. Marvin and Mark have a genuine passion for their country and its people and were very enthusiastic about sharing everything with us. Marv rode with us on the whitewater rafting tour, and we're pretty sure he took a dive on the big waterfall for our amusement, though he had great fun accusing our niece of pushing him from the raft. We cannot imagine why anyone would use anyone else for their excursions in this part of Costa Rica.

Wow is all I have to say. GO THERE. An amazing, peaceful retreat nestled away on a hill with amazing food, great amenities and lots of free activities like kayaking and snorkeling. We came here from the Riu and wished we started the trip there from the beginning, We went during rainy season and it rained about an hour or two from 5-7 daily, which was fine as it gets dark at 6 due to the proximity to the equator. We used Mauricio from Tomato and highly recommend him as well, you will not be disappointed!

We stayed here for 4 nights in the Royal Club (all inclusive) - Room 806 - fabulous views. The resort is beautiful but access to the beach is difficult. There's ALOT of walking required to get around the resort. They do offer a shuttle to take you around, but you'll have to wait a bit before it gets to you. There's alot of stairs and hills, be prepared to walk. If you are physically disabled - do consider another resort.

Breakfast buffet was great. Loved it.

Snack bar was ok - I didn't enjoy eating in the open air with the humidity.

Dinner at the Italian restaurant was the best. Great food and service. The Oriental restaurant wasn't as good as the Italian. Definitely try to schedule reservations early because there's literally only 10 tables a night. Since we were Royal Club we received better treatment. Upgrade if you can to Royal Club.

We also attended the Sales Presentation for their timeshare program. We received 2 free massages at the spa for attending. The massages were average - only 30 minutes long.

Overall, service from the staff was great. They were very accommodating.

We recently returned from a trip to Costa Rica and stayed at the Occidental Grand Papagayo. We are not much for all inclusives, but had a wonderful time at the resort. The best part by far is the staff, who are all helpful and give great service. The grounds are magnificent, the views amazing, the beach (contrary to other reports) is clean and in good shape. It's true there are "locals" on the beach. The "locals" do live here! And all beaches in Costa Rica are public so get over it. All of the people we encountered on the beach were more than pleasant,

We highly recommend booking trips with Larry on the beach. Does a great job. We drove and Larry came with for a Palo Verde River Tour. Highlight of the trip. Awesome job by Larry, awesome cruise. Monkeys, crocs, birds. The coolest part was when we approached another boat and it turned out the guide on the other boat was selling ceviche. So great to have tasty ceviche on a river in the middle of nowhere in Costa Rica. Larry took us to lunch at a local persons house afterwards and the meal was exceptional.

The resort was very quiet as August is low season. We ate every night in either the Oriental or Italian restaurants and the food and service were top notch. Breakfast and lunch were at what is the snack bar during busier times. Great outdoor dining. Omlets for breakfast. Lunch was the weakest of the meals, but you could always find something good and if not, have a few extra drinks!

Our rooms were clean. The fridge was stocked every day with water (we didn't drink the beer), and the staff really cleaned up well. This resort, like all of them in the area, is quite hilly and the walks can be tiring, but we could always get a ride in shuttle to dinner so I didn't have to eat after getting sweaty.

It was very quiet at night, which was fine for us. Got some pool volleyball going a couple times. Snorkeled off the beach and while not awesome, saw plenty of fish. There is a ping pong table and foosball outside under a tent. Plenty to do, including doing nothing.

Is this a five star resort? I don't know as all inclusives are not our thing, but we enjoyed every aspect of the resort and it certainly met our expectations.

Highly recommend Witches Rock for an amazing canopy tour and horse back riding. Great kids who work there. All in all, this was a good place to stay.

We spent 7 days from 08/19 - 08/26 with my husband and 8-yr-old daughter, the best part of the resort is its staff, to mention a few names, Roberto, Alonso, Eduardo, Josue, Raul, Josimar, Christian, Beatriz, Mercedes, and much more. I'd say it is a 4 ****resort but the staff deserves 10 stars, they make your stay absolutely amazing. The food was always fresh, same with the fruits, amazing juices, the massage was like first class ever! the only reason why I didn't rate it as xclnt is due to the birds around the snacks restaurant. But that is something totally out of their hands. Overall, we will highly recomend this hotel for your wonderful vacations, either you can register excursions or just stay at the resort, they have an amazing team with lots of activities at the pool/beach and it is free.

Room Tip: Try the Italian and Oriental restaurants but book them quick. The food is excellent and the service...

The resort property is amazing , rooms and washrooms are clean & staff friendly. However, the bar fridge was not stocked with beer and water every other day as was promised.
The bar fridge was stocked only on the day of our arrival. Thereafter it was left empty. The weather was hot and guest need drinking water. The food quality was average.

Room Tip: Loud music from the swimming pool area can be heard in buildings # 1 & 2 , avoid booking rooms...
