“Yes, robbed.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2008

Yes, while staying at the Four Seasons Costa Rica money was taken from my wallet in the room. I found the theft a tasteful way to cap off a bad week of lack luster service and misleading advertising. There are many beautiful places and experiences in Guanacaste, please skip this hotel and find them on your trip to Costa Rica.

The Loss Prevention Director said that he is continuing the investigation and will stay in touch, but no one else seemed too worried. Odd I thought enlight of their own admission that thefts do occur at the hotel. If they ever resolve the situation I will post again....

Although the first 10 mins of our stay were a bit frightening (and funny) the other 5 days were amazing! When we arrived our room already had a guest - a very large spider in the bathroom - we killed it with a 1/2 can of raid the hotel puts in your closet. When we called the front desk they apologized, reminded us that we were in a tropical environment and that there would be "wildlife". We laughed - they offered to move us to a different room -we accepted and never saw any "wildlife" in our 2nd room. Pool and restaurant staff very attentive and courteous. The grounds of the resort are beautiful and meticulously maintained. The main hotel buildings were built on the narrowest part of the penninsula. If we walked onto our balcony we saw beach and the ocean. If we walked out our front door we saw another beach and the ocean. We tried every restaurant at least once all were good, our favorite was Du Mare - must try the chocolate souffle. The golf course views are spectacular and having wild monkeys in the trees around you is very cool. Recommend the zip line tour but not the snorkeling trip - as we did not see any fish. I was a bit worried about going in June as it is considered the rainy season in Costa Rica but it only rained twice for about an hour each time.

I have stayed at this hotel many times and it is simply beautiful and very isolated not to mention expensive. I tell people that no mattter what your rate is to double it to get your expected total cost. Not only is it a FS but you will probably have every meal at the hotel. Amazing activities for the little ones.

We stayed recently at the Four Seasons Costa Rica and I must say that it was a beautiful, peaceful resort. Everything that I read on previous posts regarding the friendly staff, the amazing architecture of the resort, etc. was good to know, but having traveled with two other couples, I can shed some light on the different rooms and if it is worth paying more/less money for different types of rooms. For starters, if you are interested in being isolated, a suite should be right up your alley – a golf cart ride or a long walk is necessary to get anywhere in the resort. On the other hand, if you are interested in being able to walk from your room to the pools, beaches, most of the restaurants, spa, exercise facility, etc, then you should stay in the 2000, 3000 or 4000 block of rooms. Due the fact that my wife was pregnant during our stay, we stayed in a Garden Room (bottom floor) in the 2000 building, and we could not have been happier – we did have an ocean view, albeit it was obstructed. Nevertheless, it was the cheapest room out of our group, but I think it had the most to offer given its proximity to all of the resort’s amenities and easy access. One of the couples in our group paid almost twice as much for a Canopy Suite and they hated the constant need to call a golf cart to get to and from their room. Furthermore, one of the other couples in our group had a Deluxe Room (second floor) and their view was possibly worse then our view. In a word, if you are planning on spending a lot of time out of your room, think twice about spending the extra money on an upgraded room – our Garden View room was fantastic!

Not that this hotel needs another amazing recommedation, but it is everything you would expect and more. My husband and I had the most amazing time. The service was truly 5 star. Others mentioned the food being just okay, but we thought everything was excellent and we're pretty picky. I did the hot stone massage at the spa and it was the best treatment/experience I've ever had. We also did the Canyon Tour and the Catamaran Snorkeling Tour which were both incredible. Everything is expensive but we brought snacks, drinks, and alcohol with us so that saved us quite a bit of $, and you have a mini-fridge in the room which was unexpected and quite nice. I can't say enough about it. . . I can't wait to go back!

Our family of 6 (kids 7,10,12,14) stayed here in July 2007 for four nights. It was simply the best hotel experience we have ever had. After a couple weeks of driving around CR doing tons of fun adventures we finished the trip at the FS and just melted with relaxation. We had a 2nd room 50% off which was a nice bonus. The service was all you would expect at Four Seasons. One day my son cut his forehead playing in the pool (don't ask, he's 7), and the on-site physician had him sutured and ready to roll in less than 70 minutes from the time of injury (try that in the US!). Room service was quick and professional, more fun for the family than the restaurants (which were excellent). Kids Center was greatly enjoyed by all of our children. The Palmer golf course was spectacular, howler monkeys and all. The FS has managed to grab one of the truly beautiful spots in all of CR, on a narrow isthmus on the Papagayo Peninsula. One note, however: If you are interested in the adventure and eco-tours from the hotel, they often involve a 1-2 hour ride to your destination. Better to stay a few days somewhere else for those offerings and just stay put on the P.Peninsula.
