The trip overall was a 10 / 10. Everything about the resort is exactly what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. The only (small) issue we had was our room when we checked in. We had booked a 1 bedroom suite with a plunge pool. We were expecting a room with a view akin to those pictured on the Four Season's website. Instead we were given a room with a view of 3 feet of grass and some foliage -basically a green wall (my apt in NYC has a nicer view). The room itself was very nicely appointed but by being somewhat lacking in light and views lacked the majesty that was sold and we were expecting.

To their credit- upon calling the font desk and asking for a room with a better view they upgraded us to a 3 bedroom suite (no charge) with an offensively beautiful view. The difference it made falling asleep and waking up in a house that is quite literally floating above the trees viewing out over the water cannot be expressed in words. We spent a good amount of time just hanging in our suite's pool overlooking the world (very romantic).

Room Tip: It seems that the (one bedroom) suites are built as small houses with two floors -one suite up and o...

Dear cdanzig, given the fact that the Four Seasons is located in a preserved area, we have some restrictions as far as deforestation. That is why we find ourselves limited to cut or trim some parts of our woods. However, I am truly pleased that you got a room with a view of your liking. I totally agree with you when you say that about the view, they are just simply breath taking!
Thank you for your review, Pascal, General Manager.

My wife and I recently spent 6 nights at the Four Seasons in Guanacaste with our family...and we
haven't stop talking about it. The views will constantly amaze you, wonderful white sand beaches
and pools everywhere. The rooms were sumptious with a huge enclosed porch. We were so taken by the
signature martini glasses (local) we bought them. The Spa is a true experience. Choose a season for the unique climate, we went at the end of the rainy season (October) and experienced a relaxing shower each evening about 4-5pm. Rain never interfered with our activities which included a jungle tour, zip lining and water rafting, we pre-booked all our tours through Issys Tours because of all the great reviews they had. They so deserve them! Overall, we can't say enough good things about this resort!! It was perfect in every aspect and we are already planning our next trip!

I haven't done any reviews on here before. I find them useful, so I decided to return the favor.

My husband and I stayed at the Four Seasons Costa Rica last month {this past September} and had SUCH an amazing time. I cannot GUSH enough about how amazing everything was!

We travel often, but this was our first trip to Costa Rica and it could not have been more perfect. We went during rainy season and everything was green, lush, and beautiful. We LUCKED out as it barely rained at all - we had stunning weather!

We arranged round trip airport transportation through the hotel, and were of course greeted with Four Seasons amazingness from the moment we arrived. Loved the WiFi in the car! They really thought of everything.

We split our stay between a one bedroom canopy suite with plunge pool and a regular room. We were upgraded from a first floor regular room to third floor regular room, which provided an amazing view. The regular room was great, with an amazing outdoor living space, but you will spoil yourself with a canopy suite. It was by far the best room we've ever stayed in and WORTH EVERY PENNY! It was very private, offered stunning views, and the plunge pool itself was to die for.

My only complaint at ALL, which really isn't anything, was, like others say, you DO pay for the internet in your room. I don't necessarily have a problem with, but it was SLOW. Like I said, I don't mind paying for it, but at least be a somewhat normal speed.

Anyway...

The beach and pool facilities were great, as was the staff that serviced them.

The staff in general was BEYOND accommodating, helpful, friendly, and just overall wonderful. They seriously went out of their way at every opportunity to go above and beyond.

Everyone says the hotel is a little "out there" location wise, which we LOVED! It was so secluded it made our excursions even more special, and then our time at the resort more peaceful. We booked two excursions through the hotel and they were PHENOMENAL. WORTH EVERY PENNY! We especially loved our trip to Arenal - it was fabulous. It was just us and a private guide which allowed us to do SO much. Our guide was fantastic. The company the Four Seasons goes through for their tours does such an amazing job.

The breakfast at Papagayo was amazing. We didn't find any of the food prices outrageous. They were exactly what you would expect. We particularly enjoyed private dining in our villa/room, and by the pool. The pools were so nice we never wanted to leave and ended up just ordering food to our loungers. Definitely be sure to try the crispy chicken caesar wrap! We even loved the fries!

The spa was stunning and the golf course was terrific. We even enjoyed a round of mini-golf! We had such a blast. The Trail of the Giants tour around the golf course is not to be missed either.

This resort did not disappoint! If you want an amazing vacation book here!

My family and I had a wonderful few days at Four Seasons. From the greeting with a fresh fruit cooler, wet hand towels and our golf cart escorted drive to our room, skipping the check in process, I knew we were going to have a worry free vacation. Everything was top notch- from the food, to the room (complete with children's bathrobes and our children's names in the bathtub), a welcome gift of wine and dessert, the pool, the gym and the great (and free) kids club. The property is very large and my husband and I enjoyed morning runs around the area. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. One staff member took us around the property in a van to spot the white faced monkeys. We will definitely visit again!

There is almost no reason that this resort should be anything less than a tripadvisor-five star experience. For the most part it was and I will explain in the body of the review why it was not.

We traveled during the holiday season in 2011. We stayed five nights in a one-bedroom canopy suite. The accommodations are well appointed with separate living and sleeping areas along with dual walk-in closets. The electronics in both the bedroom and living area are nice and include mp3/iphone-to-stereo capabilities.

The suite also includes a beautiful outdoor terrace area with a gorgeous view of the peninsula. From this vantage point we were able to observe a multitude of local wildlife including small howler monkeys indigenous to the location. This was perhaps our most enjoyable part of the vacation as we enjoyed breakfast daily from the terrace along with many additional hours of private relaxation, enjoying the views.

Of the facilities and activities available (besides the pool, obviously), we utilized the exercise room, studio classes (spinning and total body), spa, and tennis. All were excellent and the classes are a decent bargain, especially considering it's nice to have structured workouts on an extended vacation. The tennis and golf facility is also nice.

The dining is fair and, like most Four Seasons, everything is, of course, a la cart. Therefore, it's pointless to comment on whether there is good value. It's more informative to comment on the quality of the experience with regards to dining. All-in-all it's pretty good, especially for resort food. As far as a Four Seasons resort goes, I'd say the dining is average--there are definitely FS resorts with higher quality dining and with better options. Similarly, the dining service was average for a Four Seasons--it's not apples-to-apples to compare Four Seasons with most other hotels and resorts.

Overall, the service was disappointing. In true Four Seasons form, the entire staff is incredibly accommodating and friendly in a warm and welcoming way. Very much unlike a Four Seasons (resort no less), they were very poorly trained. There were numerous mistakes from the time we checked-in which started with the handling of our luggage. There were, uncharacteristically, many instances where requests had to be repeated and this included housekeeping, the concierge, the pool staff, in-room dining and the recreation consultant. Additionally, the concierge provided us with advice on our travels (email me if you would like details on this) that proved very costly. Not only did it cost money but additional days during our vacation. Finally, we had a very unfortunate incident during our last evening at the Caracol restaurant. While the restaurant itself was nice about the incident, the resort management was not. I wrote several emails (at the shift managers request) but received little back.

We would probably go back to this resort but it's not a sure thing. Not only are there other outstanding resorts offered by Four Seasons's competitors, but also within the chain itself. Again, this appears to be not a function of Four Seasons, or degradation of the Four Seasons standards but rather due to some dysfunction within the resort itself, perhaps even managerial incompetence.

Room Tip: Request something with a good view

The Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo is luxury personified. While it is true that the location on the peninsula somewhat limits your mobility, it doesn't matter that much because there is so much to do at the hotel and on the peninsula that you will not run out of activities. And, when you are ready to venture out, the hotel has an amazing selection of excursions and activities they can host, recommend, and set up for you. You MUST take the "Tour of the Giants." This is a golf-cart guided tour of some of the grounds where you will get to witness some of the most spectacular views in the world and come to face to face with local wildlife like howler monkeys, white-face capucin monkeys, iguanas, pisotes, and racoons. We even saw an armadillo

The attention to detail - EVERY detail - at The Four Seasons is truly impressive. The rooms are luxurious, beautiful, comfortable and sensible. The balconies are screened as to prevent the local critters from disrupting your visit. The bathrooms are the size of some studio apartments I've seen and the views from every point of the hotel are simply spectacular. The staff are so attentive, knowledgeable, and professional. You will not have to wait for a glass of water to be refilled or for someone to greet you and attend to your needs. The food is all excellent level and you can order off of any menu wherever you are in the resort. You will feel like royalty here because you will be treated like royalty.

Room Tip: Rates are lower in the "Green Season" (June-November), due to rainier weather, but Guanaca...

My wife and I have never been to Costa Rica or stayed at a four season’s hotel, we usually stay at the Ritz Carlton, but the four season’s suite romance package was too good to pass up. The resort is secluded (45 minutes from airport) which we liked, we chose the private transportation to and from the airport from the resort for a fee. We had a suite with no plunge pool (rm 621) the room was very nice, i just wish we had two bath rooms (toilets) instead of 1. The suite romance package included breakfast, 1 private dinner, sunset cruise, and spa credit. The food is expensive here but you are staying at the four seasons so you expect that, breakfast is great!!!!! The other restaurants were good, nothing to write home about though. The staff is very friendly and professional. The spa is great!!!! My wife and I had 3 massages while there, we loved it! The sunset cruise was so relaxing. We had arranged for a private dinner on the beach but due to the rain we had to move it to their presidential suite it was a nice gesture but the raccoon, lizards, and bats kind of ruined it for me, no fault of the resort though, they tried. We went on numerous tours (rain forest and jungle boat ride) didn’t get a chance to do the zip line because of the rain. Over all i would recommend this resort to any one headed to Costa Rica. One small area they could improve on is there communication\organization skills in regards to itineraries, i would have liked to have our plans that we prescheduled detailed\printed out and ready for us when we arrived as well as what is included in our package. Oh yeah the property is very tropical and humid so be ready for that, and be ready for the animals\insects. No fault of the resort but at 3a.m. my wife woke me up because of a Scorpio in the bath room, the resort quickly removed it and even offered to move us to another room which we appreciated. Anyway if you are going to costa Rica STAY AT THE FOURSEASONS you can’t go wrong!!!!!!
