“Great all-inclusive stay with a helpful and friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

My husband and I went to Costa Rica in October 8-15th and it was PERFECT! It rained all day the first day but we didn't mind it at all. Then it rained a little here and there the rest of the week. We really picked a good time to go when everything was lush and green. The people from and away the hotel were very nice, friendly and helpful. The hotel room was okay considering the hotel name but we weren't there most of the time. Food was good and loved the fruit bar. I had mangoes and pineapples everyday. Food and drinks were constantly available. This was our first all-inclusive and were just in awe.
We didn't have to worry about anything while we were at the hotel. We did a couple of activities that the hotel provided as well as activities away from the hotel. We booked a couple of things from Sweiss Travel Center at the hotel. We did ATV/ziplining one day. Our ATV tour guide, Fernando, was awesome!! We would stop along and the way and he would point out things about Costa Rica and offered to take pictures of us ATVing off the beaten paths he took us. Once we reached our destination to zipline he waited for us of course to lead us back home. The tour guides for the ziplining was funny and also friendly and also offered to take pictures of us. Then the next day we went hiking in the rain forest and bathed in the hot springs. Highly recommend these activities. Well worth the money. But beware of sales rep at the hotel. There will be signs when you head towards the hotel beach that you'll be hit up my outside salesman. One of them came up to us and was really rude when we told him that we already booked our outside activities.
Overall our experience at the Hilton was great! The staff was very accommodating and super friendly! We would not hesitate staying here again!

Our family just returned from an amazing week of fun in the Gulf of Papagayo. We arrived at the new Liberia airport and were taken in an new air conditioned van to our hotel (Hilton). Amazing grounds and a large spread out resort with breathtaking views and wildlife, we saw monkeys and iguanas. We stayed in room 127 which was close to the main pool and the restaurants. The shuttles ran continuously so getting around was never an issue. This resort is an older one but the grounds are well maintained. The rooms have been renovated but some of the outside decking and exterior of the bungalows are in need of repairs. We were satisfied with the different restaurants and the food selection. At times some of the food was better than other times, but we considered it to be above average for an all inclusive resort. There are three restaurants plus one buffet-dining restaurant to chose from. In the evening, the restaurants require reservations! We did several private tours with Christian from Easy Tours Guanacaste www.riuairporttransfercostarica.com "an amazing tour company". I would not hesitate to recommend the Hilton Papagayo and Easy Tours. Hoping to visit the country on another vacation to experience more of what this beautiful country has to offer.

My wife and I stayed at Hilton Papagayo for 6 nights. This is the first time we have stayed at an all-inclusive resort. Most of our vacations involve staying at smaller, more local establishments. We thought it was nice, but a bit "sanitized" for our taste. The rooms were very nice and clean and well-stocked with drinks, bottled water, towels, and a fantastic bed (Hilton actually sells these beds and I'm considering buying one). The food wasn't overly interesting or tasty. The beverage selection was pretty small (the only beer served here is Emperial). The mixed drinks were good and varied greatly according to which bartender was mixing. The pool area is very nice. During the day they played a lot of club techno music, so if you're looking to lounge by the pool and listen to the birds, you will not be happy. The beach is pretty small and made of volcanic sand (mostly black sand beach). The snorkeling off the beach is pretty lousy. We also took a boat trip to do some snorkeling nearby and it was much better. We did an ATV tour through the nearby jungle and it was a lot of fun. We went to Gauchapelin for a day of ziplining, canyoning, horseback riding, and whitewater tubing (I think it was called the "adrenaline package"). This was a ton of fun. We borrowed one of the kayaks and went for a short paddling trip and also did the bike tour. We rented a car and drove to Tamarindo for a day of surfing and it was the highlight of our trip. The staff at the resort were very nice and helpful.

Overall, this was a nice place to stay. By staying at an all-inclusive resort, it was nice to have so many things (meals, onsite activities) taken care of. It made for a very easy trip, which was a nice break from the types of trips we normally take. I will say that many of the other vacationers who were there, who often stay at all-inclusive resorts weren't impressed with Hilton Papagayo. Main complaints were about the food and the size of the beach. If you are a foodie or all-inclusive resort afficionado, you may not be impressed, either. If you're looking to get away for an easy and relaxing vacation with some nearby spots to do some outdoorsy things (rappel down waterfalls) I think you'll enjoy yourself here.

A very beautiful hotel located in Guanacaste Costa Rica. Private rooms overlooking the bay were well appointed and very comfortable. Plush robes and slippers. Transportation around the huge property was provided at all times to get around this hilly but gorgeous terrain. The spa was closed for renovation but massages were available poolside in a discrete setting. An all inclusive so food and drink was plentiful and quite good. The drivers were very polite and courteous as were the entire staff at the hotel. Very happy people. And genuinely concerned for your well-being at all times. Truly enjoyed our stay at this magnificent resort.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 233 and 234 which had an amazing view of the bay!

My mom & I vacationed in Costa Rica Oct. 26- nov 3rd. We had gorgeous weather, not a drop of rain. The people at the Hilton were incredible. Truly the locals in Costa Rica are hard to beat - the nicest people I've met during My travels. They really go above & beyond. The food was wonderful. Matter of fact, I was shocked some people on here said it was bad. I really enjoyed the food choices. It was quiet at the resort, but it was also their low season. The only thing you need to keep in mind is that the hotel is secluded. Your not leaving unless you pay to go on a tour or if you get a cab to Coco beach, which I didn't love. The beach isn't all that great, but it's just dark sand due to the volcano being so close. Plus, their beaches are public, so i dont believe the Hilton maintains this part of the property. When I went on the beach tour (conque shell, flamingo, tamerindo), I saw gorgeous beaches & they were walking distance from a little town, which was really nice, however, 1.5 away from the Hilton. There are lots of bugs/Mosquitos, but it is the rainforest. Don't forget your bug spray, i was eaten alive. Also, don't forget your sunscreen, it's $27 a bottle at the Hilton gift store. Very, very expensive. I really liked the Hilton, but I just didn't love the location. My mom & I like to walk around a night, maybe go into a couple stores, and that's not an option here. Also, if your going to Costa Rica, use Issys Tours. Incredible tour company with wonderful people.

Room Tip: It's convenient to be close to the pool/restaurant, but if you want a beautiful view go to the 4...

We went to the Hilton Papagayo Resort in guanacaste with my family and we really enjoyed our time there. It is not a huge place and it wasn't crowded. Food was really good and so were the cocktails. I loved that it is not just a building at the beach; this place is in harmony with nature. You are among mountains, lots of trees and you can see many iguanas and monkeys. The staff is very friendly and provides really good service. We used to go to another hotel in Guanacaste, but now that we found the Hilton, this has become our new favorite. We did 4 tours during our stay... we booked with Easy tours and transfers Guanacaste and we really had a blast!!! These guys are amazing.... ask for Alex and Diego!
