“Hard to Rate”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2014

In trying to be extremely fair about my feelings about this resort, I have searched my thoughts, experiences, etc.

The staff! Amazing! Friendly, accommodating, cheerful, etc. There were a few who were less than acceptable. Misty at the front desk seemed to have a problem?! Don't know what it was, but every time I approached her she wasn't representative of the Belizian smile and willingness to be accommodating. A couple of incidences were very notable. First time was when we wanted to rent the golf cart, she shuffled some papers around and told us there weren't any available. She couldn't find the keys; she went outside, amazingly came back in saying it was available! A smile would have gone a long way.

Second time was when we went to check to see what time we should be at the desk for a trip to the airport, again she shuffled around some papers for a while... seemed to be a little lost. When I asked her if we should come back later, she said yes.!

The room and resort. The resort could use uplifting. No, I don't mean to say it was unkept. The grounds crew worked endlessly. I mean the place was showing signs of aging.

For our doors, a rock was necessary to either keep them open or closed. And, yes, the exterior door as well! The sliders to the balcony was broken. The blinds on the windows were broken and needed replacement. slight black on some of the grout in the shower. Handles were loose on the sinks. These fixes were small, but neglected! Can't understand why!

Tiles around the pool were either missing or loose, loose rocks around the pathways.

Oh, and the front reception! OMG! I couldn't believe my eyes! How pedestrian! Certainly like walking into a Red Roof Inn would be an upgrade for this place!

WiFi! Another joke! Although they're working on it when we were there.

There were no phones in any of the rooms...not even to call the front desk! Again, they were working on it when we were there.

For a "RESORT" there weren't enough loungers, chairs, etc for their guests to sit either at the beach nor at the pool. Many times we had to sit in our rooms to wait for a place to sit at the beach... I asked about this many times. When we did get a lounger, they were a little grubby. I would advise the resort to get a few extra covers and change them out for a cleaning.

The kayaks were in need of a little cleaning every night or morning!

A couple of times they had bus guests a the resort from a couple of schools! We were very surprised! Again, there wasn't anything for us to do but spend time in our room! Very expensive vacation to spend time in our room over and over again.

At times there weren't enough tables to sit and eat. Again, back to our room to wait! Despite paying for the inclusive package!

How does a RESORT who knows who is staying there and the head count run out of loungers, tables, chairs, food, etc? How does that happen? It is not the fault of the staff... Management is missing something... a whole lot of somethings!

Very excluded area! Not much to do at all. Once you've been to the town, Hopkins a couple of times, there's no reason to go back. Every trip was at least 1.5 hours to get anywhere.

I only wish I had known in advance so that I could have really weighed my options better.

This RESORT charges everything in USD! Not a value at all for what was delivered. I must say that I expected things to be in Belizean dollars. Would have been able to have a much better review. This place knew how to extract $ from US citizens. I certainly hope the staff was paid accordingly..... somehow I think not.

If this place wants to compete with US$ it needs to really do a lot of sprucing up!

It represented itself to have WIFI... it doesn't... at best it works in the office and perhaps at the dining area! They should not represent themselves to be something they're not!

Again, this is my fair, honest evaluation.

Room Tip: All the rooms were similar, very comfortable, clean overall.

Thank you for your feedback! Your words are not taken for granted by us.

We always want to know our guests experiences to help us grow and improve.

In regards to the staff mentioned, Misty, she was a new staff under a three weeks probation period. I’m sorry for your experience with her. For the record after her probation period lapse we relinquished her from her duty as an employee of Belizean Dreams Resort as she was deemed unfit for the position. We do take Customer Service seriously and we try to provide superior Customer Service in all aspects of our Resort. We are happy that you appreciate that hard work all our staff do on a daily basis to ensure that all our guest have a wonderful vacation with us. Rest assured that we do pay our staff properly and in accordance with their position. Additionally to their salary as it states on our website “Service charge (8.5%) is a fixed charge which is distributed equally amongst the staff” from all bookings.

The grounds of the resort are constantly being monitored and whenever there is anything identified that needs to be updated, we try to act on it fast. We will check into the issue you have noted. However, specifically in reference to the broken tiles around the pool that you mentioned. Please note that the replacements had been pre-ordered a couple months ago from a Guatemalan business. Since your visit the tiles have been fixed.
For WiFi we had relied upon one of our National Internet Providers however, this constantly and continuously provided us low internet signal only available to some areas at the resort. This was what we had at our disposal within Belize, however as you stated we were working on it while you were there. At our own expense and after timely research, we had a 100Ft Antenna installed to rectify any internet issue we may have had in the past. For now it has proven to be a very good investment with 100% internet coverage for our Resort. We continue to monitor.

Our prices that are displayed in USD is to assist guest with comfort of knowing what their actually spending on meals, tours and drinks as the USD is a universally accepted currency. However, the Resort does make all charges to Credit Cards in Belize Dollar as that is our Country’s Currency. We also accept the USD notes at Belizean Dreams Resort and all over our beautiful Country Belize. Please note that we adhere to the universal exchange rate of BZD$2 = USD$1.

I’m truly sorry that you were unable to appreciate the beauty of Hopkins Village and the exclusivity that the village has to offer. Hopkins Belize is the #1 Cultural Destination in Belize that will take you deep into the Ancient culture of the Garifuna. In fact, people that travel to Hopkins often talk about the friendly people of the Village who welcome visitors from all walks of Life. The central location of the village makes it the ideal place for doing inland tours; Belize is packed with Maya Temples and natural attractions like caves, waterfalls, a dense rain Forest packed with hundreds of species of Birds and more. The Belize Barrier Reef is only 20 Minutes away from Hopkins Belize making Hopkins one of Belize's fastest growing dive Destinations. Hopkins really is for travelers interested in experiencing new cultures, in search of a great adventure, excitement and peaceful relaxation. Therefore when you travel to Hopkins Belize you should be someone interested in the above, then Belizean Dreams Resort in Hopkins will be an excellent choice!

From pick up at the air port to our last day there...amazing! We were so well taken care of. Our wedding day could not have gone smoother. The flowers were amazing, as well as the cake, and the food, and the toast. well...everything! Naomi was incredible and spent hours with me getting ready for the wedding! The staff Decorated our room on our wedding day and it looked like something out of a movie! Also Jose is the best bartender ever! The whole staff really makes this one of the most amazing places on earth. They went above and beyond to makes us feel welcome and very well taken care of.

The resort was beautiful and well maintained. The rooms were very nice with great views of the sea.
The staff was very attentive. A special thanks to Edward who arranged for our trips up the Sittee River and my amazing Zip-Line experience. And to Ernesto, Erma and Arlen too for making our stay most enjoyable.

Spent spring break with our 11 year old son and 16 year old daughter. Room set up (1B and C) was perfect - two BR/2bath with tv room and kitchen literally 2 steps from the beach. Amazing porch across the entire front that had full view of the beach and ocean - perfect. Although the resort only has one restaurant we felt that we had plenty of choices especially considering daily special that was always delicious and different. The resort is small and very quiet with a beautiful beach, small pool and kayaks/bikes always available. Half the days we were there we went on adventures (ziplining/tubing, snorkeling, monkey river) and the other days we kayaked and relaxed on the beach. The kids spent many hours hunting sea cucumbers and star fish in the sea grass beds just a small ways from the shore. Loved the mix of adventures we planned - probably covered at least 40% of the country and the resort did a great job getting you around seamlessly. If you're looking for nightlife or constant kid entertainment this is not the place for you. If you are looking to experience the country, great food, drinks and beautiful surroundings this is an amazing choice.

Room Tip: Units 1B/C perfect for a family of four. Enitre bottom floor fronted with beautiful porch directly o...

Went over spring break with 2 older kids, 2 6 year old and wife. Nice bungalows. Food was surprisingly good. But I think they expect you to go do other things than hang out on the beach. There are tons of things to go do our see. But nothing at resort but rooms and beach. Peaceful would be a good statement. Everything but the village is 2+ hours away, except diving too. Plan diving before you get down there. Otherwise slim pickings. Good time, teenagers and young adults may miss nightlife.

Words do not explain the amazing experience we had with Belizean Dreams. It all starts with the First Class staff that assisted us on our stay. Starting with Nicole who worked with us on our booking, and helped us deal with my celiac disease which requires a Gluten-Free menu. She was very friendly, helpful and responsive. The short flight on Maya Air is worth it and highly recommend, fastest way to paradise! Greeted by our driver that leads you to the boat, missing our luggage he made sure that our priority was to get to paradise island where we could relax and enjoy while he made sure our luggage would arrive later in the evening. Short little boat ride and you enter paradise island. From the first site of the island, we knew we found the right place for a long over due vacation. Greeted by the managers and the awesome bartender(George) who had an ice cold cocktail waiting for us, we were given a tour to our cabana, the restaurant and bar. Everyone already knew our names and made us feel like family. We felt right at home and started to enjoy the endless time of fun, sun and friends thanks to Swirvin Ervin, George of the jungle, Bella, Renea, Phil & can't forget Shaggy on Karaoke night. This team took care of all of our needs and wants beyond our expectations! Swirvin Ervin, thank you for getting the extra things we wanted! What can we say about the food, it was AMAZING, Thank you Jude for taking care of my Celiac. We were very skeptical about their understanding of Celiac and have not been able to enjoy food on any vacations we have been on but BELIZEAN DREAMS hit a HOME RUN!! I was able to enjoy every meal with no worries. VALENTINES dinner was so breathe taking with the romantic setup, full moon, and great staff making it happen and all of their hard work! Cabanas are very clean and private. We enjoyed our lounge chairs, hammocks and the cleaning services were outstanding!! The grounds were immaculate and groomed every day! Time here is endless. The days don't rush by without you enjoying every minute. You can stay as private as you want or party as hard as you want. Our favorite part was enjoying the staff laughing and enjoying their jobs. They made our trip PERFECT! We always promised we would never go back to the same place twice, but now we will be regulars every year! THANK YOU AGAIN TO ALL THAT MADE OUR VACATION SPECIAL!
