Some friends of mine and my husbands were already planning this trip and asked us to join. I decided to actually surprised my husband with this trip for his birthday. I knew nothing about Belize except that it was a third world country. I was very nervous about everything including my husband's reaction. I had a ton of questions and found that along with the warm welcome I got when reserving our room came very friendly, host that informed me of everything I need to know about what to expect, to bring, to do and what was in the area. Cindy and Joe were very quick to answer the phone as well as EVERY question I had. We arrived at the airport, and Cindy, was actually there to pick us up herself. She was quick to point out highlights along the way to her B & B as well as make a few stops so we could get supplies for dinners, lunch and anything we forgot or needed. Once we got there, we were shown to the Seagull Suite. Although it was not one of her "King Suites" my husband and I felt like kings. She said it was one of the medium size rooms but as you can see from her photos it's really pretty huge. We were spoiled with someone going into our room everyday and not only straightening up but also leaving us fresh flowers all over the room and beautiful towel figures too. I must say, we were a bit nervous about someone going into our room, as we would be on any vacation, but on many occasions we left money as well as valuables out and nothing was ever taken, only neatly placed where it should be. I thought it was going to be strange staying in a B & B but we found out right away that this was not your avarage B & B. Although it does have a common living room and kitchen, we had our own bedroom with a fridge, bathroom and sitting area. I can pretty much say that we never used the sitting area since right away Cindy & Joe made us feel right at home. We were treated with a familiar friendly acceptance at every turn. Cindy & Joe were quick to tell us all about the activities in the area like snorkeling on the Toucan Play, The Mayan Ruins tours and deep sea fishing. They took care of all our reservations and made sure we were treated like royalty by tour guides. (Not that they needed to because it seems like everyone went out of their way to make sure we were having the best time). On days that we didn't have plans they actually were more than willing to come with us and show us some of the local spots. On of the nights we were there we went to a local pizza / "crazy, hopping night club" (lol) on the beach and got to enjoy the evening dancing with our friends as well as Cindy & Joe, like they were old friends. The locals were right outside on the beach singing acapella style and even with them we were welcomed to join right in singing and dancing under the stars on the beach.
Every morning we were treated to Cindy's soon to be world famous breakfast. She went all out serving us to the point of bursting with her home cooked treats including banana bread french toast, eggs, home fries and my extra special second helping of bacon because she realized it's my weakness... LOL The beach was beautiful and only a hop, skip and jump away. There's a bar on the beach as well as personal kayak's that we were welcome to use. I did, and let me tell you, our friends had blast watching me try to do my best on one of these things...
Joe & Cindy were just about finished remodeling and adding on to their B & B during our visit and it wasn't totally completed so we got to watch all of their hand picked decor turn it into such a beautiful place. I can't wait to go back to enjoy the waterfall swimming pool and the ocean view deck with the amazing tile floor. : ) I know this is pretty long and still I left out so much... I really want to get the word out about what a great time we had. I feel like I went there with 2 friends and came home leaving 2 more friends behind. I can't wait to go back and Cindy & Joe if your reading this know that you both made our trip amazing. We really appreciated how above and beyond you both went from making our beds, packing our picnic lunch for 2 on the beach to actually taking time out of your day to show us around. You truly added a special spark to our vacation and we're both so grateful that you not only invited us to stay in your home but allowed us into your life as well. Please keep teaching Rico my name and before you know it I'll be back to visit again.
