“Oh. My. God...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

Ok, I booked this place after looking around, and I COMPLETELY screwed up. I thought I was booking the Lone Pine Hotel. What a mistake.

After a hell drive from KL (flat tire and dead battery), we arrived about 3 hours late... at 3am. It took as 15 minutes circling around to find the entrance. No way did it look like a hotel at all from the outside. I had to bang on the gate to wake the sleeping security guard for another 10 minutes. Unlike most hotels, this one all the staff seems to go home after 10pm I guess.

We walked through the deserted lobby, up to the 2nd floor (3rd floor)... Found our closet entrance, I mean room entrance, and opened up. After waving away the musty odor that hit us, and figuring out the lights, we got a look of the place.

I wish the lights hadn't worked... My wife and I thought about sleeping in the car, but we were just too tired... We fell asleep with our clothes on (the bed linen smelled like it hadn't been changed after the last guest)vowing to be out first thing in the morning.

We mistakenly booked for 2 nights, and stayed a total of 8 hours, sleeping for 7 of them on the creaking bed with lumpy mattress.. I tried to cancel the rest, but they wouldn't refund, company policy...

The receptionist in the morning was friendly enough, saying we should just stay, she couldn't refund. I don't know if anyone else works there except the guard. Oh, and after daring to use the shower, and walking around the room, the bottom of my feet were black!! The rugs were so dirty and greasy... Shampoo the carpets!! Oh, and replace the florescent light, and the broken lamp that is taped together, and the creaking bed, and the carpets, and the room furniture...

Stay away from this place, it almost made me want to leave Penang!

Room Tip: Pick somewhere else to stay...

Thanks for your review. I appreciate your frank review and we will look into upgrading and improving our service for future customers. For other's information we would like to clarify but not justify are as follow :-

1. Our reception will only be open until 11pm. The room keys are given to our security for late check in guess.
2. The gate to our hotel will be closed after 12 pm to ensure the security of our inhouse guess.
3. Any bookings done through agoda, refund have to be referred to them too.
4. We do try our best to ensure customers are aware that we are Lone Pine Resort and not Lone Pine Hotel.

I would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused and I do feel the same way if my car had the same amount of problems as yours.

Regards.

We were on a three day get away from KL and were looking forward to revisiting some of the things that everyone enjoys about Penang. We arrived late afternoon and were met in the entrance by Guido, who made a delightful first impression. The staff were all friendly and couldn't do enough to make our stay a memorable one. We had booked a deluxe room with breakfast and a bath tub on the balcony. The bath tub was a great touch. With a great pool side area, and happy hour in the Batubar it was very hard to go out exploring. Breakfast in the morning was a typical buffet with a good range of foods and flavours. This is a great resort to kick back and enjoy being beside the beach. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Take the Deluxe room with the bath tub on the balcony. It is a relaxing way to end your day. Do en...

Stayed at the Lone Pine Hotel for 7 nights. The staff were outstanding very friendly and polite, they were always there to assist. The restaurants were very nice. Whilst there we had the pleasure to see two weddings which were lovely. The rooms were very clean and roomy. My husband and I would go back without hesitation.

This hotel was fantastic, and I'm not easily impressed. Rooms are large and well designed. We stayed in a corner room which was like a suite. We travelled with a 5 month old and a 2 year old. Our children could sleep and play in the daybed area, it was like a whole second bedroom. Staff were very friendly and could not have been more helpful. This hotel pays attention to detail and provides personalised service. The staff at the pool even returned our son's hat which we didn't even realise was gone! The grounds are beautiful. The beach out the front of the hotel was clean and well maintained, and previous comments about being haggled for water sports although true, once you said a polite no, they left you alone and as such it wasn't an issue. Bath on the balcony was a lovely touch. Breakfast was great. Children's meals were quite limited and relatively expensive. Wifi was intermittent with coverage.
Much nicer than any of the other hotels along this strip of beach and in a great, central location. Will be returning at the next available opportunity!

Room Tip: Be mindful that on the weekends, this is a popular venue for weddings and the noise in the rooms on...

Dear Travelsinjkt,

Sunshine Greetings from Malaysia's Premier Boutique Beach Resort.

We are so glad that you and your family had a wonderful and satisfying stay with us and your review is very much appreciated. We do try our best to ensure our services are personalized as we believe that it is just as critical as the product itself. We have taken note about the children's meal and as for the wifi, we are having our vendor looking into it right at this moment.

We hope you will keep to your word as we look forward to welcome you back to Lone Pine. We would like to wish you and your family all the best.

I stayed for 7 nights at the Lone Pine and it was perfect. Great room with a view. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and provided a very personal service - great at remembering your preferences. The buffet breakfast had an excellent choice and the menu at the bungalow was good and reasonably priced. I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to relax at a more initmate resort than the bigger ones nearby.

This is a wonderful place to stay. All the staff are friendly. Ask and they do their best to accomodate. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable, and the even have free wifi. The night market is on the front step, and the beach is at the back. Great location for a resort. Their buffet breakfast is excellent. I stayed in the deluxe room. My whole family had a great time. I would recommend it for a place to stay. They even organised a birthday cake for my son. Thank you very much,

Excellent in every way, staff were unbelievable friendly and efficient, room fanatstic, facilities in general top drawer.Location great for the beach and night markets. The place was mistakenly named after a pine as it was another type of tree but maybe the pine stands for the feeling that we had on leaving after having such a great time. Thanks to everyone especially Wee, Devi,Razlan,Ishmal all guided by Guido their manager.E pai ana.

Room Tip: level 2 or 3 rooms about 213 to 218 and same for 3rd floor to get good views
