“Perfect hotel for visiting Penang!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2011 via mobile

We stayed for two nights in October 2011 and were very surprised by Lone Pine.

Newly renovated over 12 months ago, the hotel still had that new hotel feel. The rooms were spacious and had an excellent layout. The bathroom was a delight with a uniquely designed shower room.

The pool was excellent - the perfect way to cool down after shopping in Penang (which was also excellent value for money).

The buffet breakfast had a good selection of western and Asian food. The chefs made eggs to order.

Considering its location near to the main room, we were never bothered by road or street noise.

We will definitely be staying there again on our next trip to Penang.

Dear monstu,

Sunshine Greetings from Malaysia’s Premier Boutique Beach Resort!

I trust that the week has been wonderful and productive for you and your family. It was really fantastic to have read your wonderful comments during your recent stay at the Lone Pine Hotel and that have made it more satisfying for all of us to learn that we have managed to fulfil the expectations of another guest.

The hospitality industry is indeed challenging but most fulfilling when we have a guest like you expressing your satisfaction to the whole world and pledging to return and visit us.

Please rest assured that your comments have been acknowledged by the management of Lone Pine Hotel and have been duly passed on to the respective department heads to share with their staff.

We certainly look forward to welcoming you back at the property again soon, and trust that future visits will be just as enjoyable.

Once again, thank you and wishing you and your family a good week ahead.

We stayed here for a long weekend in September. The hotel is beautifully designed and the rooms are light, airy and peaceful. Breakfast was reasonable. The bar has sime interesting and imaginative cocktails! The beach isn't great, but that's not the hotel's fault. Good location for wandering around the night market in the evening. Hotel offers a convenient free shuttle service into town. Don't book an airport transfer through the hotel, it's very expensive- instead get a taxi from the airport, much cheaper.

Had a very relaxed week at this really nice hotel. Great pool only yards from the sandy beach. huge room and bed, very comfortable, one of the best beds we have ever slept in. Staff are all friendly and polite and food was good ,especially the week-end buffets which were tremendous value with a great selection of treats. certainly recommend this smaller hotel with the personal touch. There was a wedding on the Sat + Sunday nights that we were there but the festivities ended around 11 p.m. Can't wait to return.

Room Tip: overlooking the pool is best- first or second floor

We arrived for our main holiday to relax and unwind whilst taking the opportunity to explore Penang for 9 days.
The hotel itself is lovely the staff are very polite with nothing being to much trouble for them in order to make the stay as comfortable as possible. They make a great effort with the personal touch including delivering cakes to your room aroound 5pm in order for you to be able to enjoy afternoon tea and cake. The rooms are huge with a queen size bed, large bathroom and a bath tub out on the balcony.
The pool is fresh water and there is a nice jacuzzi area as well. The setting of the pool is really nice and the trees provide both shade a pleasent setting for chilling out by the pool. We didnt get pestered at all by the locals on the other side of the low hedge that leads to the beach as others have commented on. The bungalow restaurant is great also and the food very good, the head chef is a great character to have and is instantly recognisable, he clearly likes to sample his great cooking. We never had dinner here but other guests said how good the food was.

We went to the Batu bar before we went out at night and Dennis the head waiter provided us with many good ideas about how best to explore the island and the best ways of getting around. Take advantage of the free shuttle to George town and public transport is very good and cheap. The local Taxis were very cheap also in comparison to the UK.

We didnt experience any problems with the night market my only comment would be that there were alot of the same stall selling wallets, t shirts, handbags and sunglasses.

There were weddings on both the saturday and the sunday night whilst we were there but didnt really notice any difference in noise etc, they use a large marquee which seats 250 people which looked lovely when it was all set up and then they take it down again on the monday. The hotel notified us several times both verbally and in writing that there would be weddings on and to apologise in advance for any inconvienience caused.

Overall a terrific place to spend a week or so relaxing and unwinding.

I write this lying on one of the best beds I have ever slept on. The rooms are massive with a huge shower. Bliss. Food is top notch and I am completely relaxed - one amazing feature on our large balcony is a bath - how cool is that. In fact that you have a balcony means you can get fresh air. The rooms have ceiling fans too that is a nice change from hermetically sealed. Hotel rooms. The only downside is that their TV is soccer than rugby oriented but the shangra la next door is showing the rugby world cup. The pool is divine and weve seen a troop of monkeys above it. Frankly it feels like a cruise ship and i mean that in a relaxing and enjoyable way. My overall rating is a 10 for chill factor. Right now its thundering as a spectacular rain is about to blow in. Double bliss.

We arrived pretty early, check in was supposed to be at 2, but we got into our room by 1. A plus point after driving for 2 hours. The Premier Room is to die for. Bathroom was huge! The Concierge was awesome. Left my charger at home. He went all the way to provide me with a charger. Japanese dinner, complimentary, was good. Worth the short stay. Better than Hard Rock Penang. Much Much Better.

Room Tip: Get the Premier Room, Separate Building, Facing The Sea, Huge Balcony and Comfy Beds.

The hotel rates itself as a 5 star luxury boutique hotel on the coast of Batu Ferringhi which is being managed by the E & O Hotels. However the service and the rates they are charging do not go along.

We were there for several functions:-
a. Wine & Dine Buffet Dinner - Food tasted and looked pathetic. The wine was served at full glass and the roast beef was cut too thick. Plus point - The Penang Char Koay Teow and Apple Struddle tasted the best.
b. Hotel Rooms (Garden & Sea View) - Rooms were large and pleasant looking.Toilets were spacious. Basically the rooms are normal, the only special is that either each room has a patio which allows relaxation either via garden or sea view.
c. Hotel Room Breakfast - Spread was good but quality was edible only.
Generally, the hotel lives up to its 5 star rating with its facilities and interior decor. However, in terms of its staff and food quality, it could be improved very much.

Room Tip: Garden Room - More spacious
