“Great family fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2014

This is the third time that we have stayed at Bayview. They have given the place a bit of a face lift over the last 2 years with new carpets, flat screen TVs in the rooms etc... As well as the large swimming pool, there is now a play pool which our kids loved. The kids club, although simple was still a favourite with our boys (8 and 4) and gave us a welcome break.

I'd recommend for families to get the suites as this includes a separate parent's bedroom and good deals can be found on Agoda. If breakfast is included, then fair enough, but I wouldn't pay extra for it. (There is a really good little restaurant directly across from the hotel). The only downside is that without a car you are quite far from the main strip.

Foodwise, the main Long beach food court has some excellent choices. We also ate in a new Middle Eastern place just along from Long Beach (used to be an Italien as still has the decor) serving up some pretty good fare and sensibly they have kept the pizza oven. If you love Thai food and want something more romantic, try Tree Monkey, which is 2 km past Bayview in the opposite direction of the main drag. They also offer cooking classes. (Bayview has a babysitting service at very reasonable rates :-) )

Dear cbailey23,

Thank you so much for returning to our resort and for your Trip Advisor review! As you have rightfully said we did update our rooms in stages to maintain guest comfort and also built the play pool last year to add to our family friendly facilities available in the resort. As you have experienced, Bayview Beach Resort is a wholesome resort which had something to offer for everyone. For families, we have one of the biggest family type accommodation inventory in Batu Ferringghi along with puddle pool, slide pool, playground, kids club and more for the young ones. The suite you mentioned is called a Family Suite which comes in three view variants namely Hillview, Side Seaview which is available in all online sites and also Full Seaview Family Suite which is only available in the hotels own website due to the limited inventory.

As far as the resort location goes, many guests have said that we are far enough to enjoy plenty of quiet relaxation but near enough to walk over to the hustle bustle of the main strip. Eateries are aplenty along the 10 minute walk to the night market. We also provide complimentary shuttle to the area in the evenings.

We thank you once again for staying with us and we do hope to welcome you again in the nearer future!

If you are looking for a good standard budget home, then you cannot go wrong with the Bayview.
Of course there are not the frills of 5 star hotels, but for what you pay, it would be unrealistic to make complaints and expect more from this resort. The rooms are spacious and well appointed, the bathrooms are good with toiletries provided and a room safe. The TV is wall mounted and the free wifi has excellent reception. The airconditioning in the room very efficient. We only visited the Sagar restaurant once and the food was delicious. We chose not return again to Sagar, because we felt closed in, as the restaurant was in a basement, and we think it is a shame not to sit outside with a view of gardens or pools as in many Asian resorts.
The transit bus is just outside the resort, they are regular and well airconditioned and you can travel into Georgetown for just a tiny amount of riggots.
I must say that the service we received from Jacky the front of house duty manager was outstanding and beyond our expectations. The hotel is well managed and if you are realistic and don't expect glamour and lots of frills then you will not be disappointed in my opinion.

Room Tip: room 834 has a lovely view of the ocean from the room and balcony.

Dear 263rozzie,

Thank you for your 5/5 rating in Trip Advisor. Though not 5 stars, the Bayview provides full 4 star facilities such as 4 outdoor pools, Spa, Traditional Massage, Foot Reflexology, tennis, squash & basketball courts, multiple restaurants, recreation club, kids club, gym and more. The resort is indeed a second home to many of our returnees who visit year after year and hopefully we have convinced you the same. I am glad that you were happy with our services and facilities and that you had a good stay with us except for maybe your dining experience in Sagar. Unfortunately we are unable to relocate the restaurant elsewhere at this point of time though I do agree your suggestion sounds really good.

I have copied Jacky our Front Office Manager and team your review so that it will further motivate us to do even better in the future. Once again I take this opportunity to thank you for you excellent review and for choosing us as your choice of accommodation in Penang!

Such a relaxing experience at the quieter end of the hotel strip. Grounds are excellent. Service wonderful. Priced very well. Would return in a heart beat. Stayed here many years ago....pleased to see there have been upgrades to suit the times. Hard pressed to find any faults.

Room Tip: Our stay was in the last week of Ramadan.....very quiet which was great for us. Wonderful surrounds...

Dear Justback87,

Thank you for returning to the Bayview Beach Resort after having stayed here a couple of years ago. Our off-main strip location in Batu Feringghi where its near and connected to everything but far enough from the noise and bustle of the night markets is indeed popular among travellers. The rooms have gone through regular updates and renovation in stages and by types. I am so glad our quieter location suits you and that you have enjoyed our garden and other services backed by our friendly service at the resort.

We thank you for your excellent 5/5 rating of your recent stay here and we look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit to Penang. Thank you.

Having read other TripAdvisor reviews indicating a dated hotel I was expecting something a little less than what I actually experienced. I couldn't fault my third floor room which was clean and spacious. Large comfy king size bed. Cool aircon. Large balcony. A separate large shower in addition to a bathroom with over bath shower. Pool area was good. Only negative was some staff not overly friendly for the hospitality industry. Note that this resort is last on the Batu ferringhi beach strip but only a brisk 5 to 10 minute walk to the main night market area. More than happy with my stay.

Dear Jason L,

We have always had mixed reviews about the style of the Resort, some good some not and we have always emphasised that our focus is always on services and facilities which thankfully has received mostly positive comments. We are happy that yours was too. I am delighted that your stay was good and you have thoroughly enjoyed staying in our spacious rooms with huge kingsize bed and our facilities.

I am disappointed that you found some of our staff unfriendly and certainly we are not known for unfriendly services. We will take corrective action and remind all staff to “serve with a smile” but rest assured we are serious about offering excellent services and we rely on strong teamwork of ALL staff to achieve that.

We look forward to welcoming you back again so that we can extend a friendly and enjoyable stay on your next visit.

We stayed here for a couple of nights during the peak holiday season in Penang when the downtown hotels were mostly booked solid. It is quite far up along the beach resort strip in Teluk Bahang, a non-walkable distance away from the main strip at Batu Ferringhi where most of the 'action' is. However, it has its own smattering of local shops and cafes around the area so it isn't too isolated. The hotel itself is old and looks like it hasn't been refurbished since the 1980's. The carpets smelt a little damp and musty and the dim corridors had a feel of a hostel rather than a mid-range beach resort.

The room we had was surprisingly large and the bed was huge and comfortable. We also had a reasonable wifi signal although the internet was patchy and could be a little slow at times. However, the bathroom was a little rough around the edges, it didn't feel particularly clean and there was a rust-brown stain at the bottom of the toilet bowl. Worryingly, the shower curtains did not look like they had been changed in some time. There was an information sign attached to the tiled wall beside the bathtub. Sometime during the night, the sign fell off the wall and into the bathtub. We thought that the housekeepers would deal with this when they cleaned the room, but disappointingly, after we returned the next day, the sign remained lying in the bathtub, although it was clear that the housekeepers had been in the room... not a good sign?!

The pool area and the small grounds also looked a little tired, prices for cocktails etc. are quite high and the outdoor drinks bar closed at 7.30pm which we thought was a little too early, but then the hotel felt quite deserted after this time. The other hotel guests must have been getting their booze and snacks from the small shops across the road and saving quite a lot of money. The few hotel restaurants (the Marco Polo and the coffee house) were absolutely deserted on the two evenings we were there, and the only one we tried (Sagar - North Indian food) left much to be desired. Even the beach was fairly quiet up here, apart from during the day when jet ski and donkey ride touts hung around. The sea looked greyish, polluted and most uninviting, and a sign warned of jellyfish so even if we were so inclined, we couldn't wade into the water.

The hotel is also a considerable distance away from Georgetown, at least 30-40 mins by car with some traffic factored in. At night, the soundproofing in the hotel room was quite poor and we could hear the din of motorcycles roaring past rather late at night. The room was reasonably cheap compared to other beach hotels along the strip, but we're not sure it was even worth the money. A very mediocre experience - unless one enjoys stepping back in time to the 1980's.... still, it might be a decent budget choice as long as you don't expect too much.

Dear artemisworks,

We are sorry that we did not meet up to your expectations on some areas and we apologise for the inconvenience caused over the ‘less than perfect’ attention given by the room attendant during your recent stay with us. Appropriate action has been taken by the Housekeeping Department to be more vigilant when checking rooms. I know we can and will do better in the future.

Regrettably, we are located along a busy shipping route, the sea water quality along Batu Ferringhi in general has the unpredictable presence of jelly fish. Hence, we compensate this situation with a hygienic and safe swimming pool for our guests. All hotels along Batu Ferringhi faced the same problem and all of us are about 30 minutes’ drive down to Georgetown centre.

Whilst the standard & superior rooms are “noisier” nearer the roadside, alternative quieter seafacing rooms are available options. Perhaps you can try booking a room of a higher category & quieter location away from the main road to avoid any din from the roadside.

Thank you for choosing the Bayview Beach Resort and we hope you will prefer savings on your travel expenditure when you next stay with us.

We stayed in a deluxe room on level 3 which was generous in size but requires major renovation. The resort maybe 4 stars overall, but the room we stayed in was more like 3 stars at best. Had I known the standard of the room I would have booked a better room. Also this property is the last one in Batu Ferrringhi.

Dear pnsdreams,

All our Deluxe rooms have all gone through an extensive renovation recently. I will appreciate if you could email us the room number you had stayed in so that we can check why the room was not up to your expectations.

It was a pleasure to have been of service to you and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Old hotel but well maintain, staff was friendly and the room is large and comfortable. Very nice swimming poor and my kids really enjoyed. The breakfast buffet was nice and you could find Indian, Malay, Chinese as well as western style food here.

The beach is just in front of the hotel. HardRock cafe is within the walking distance as well.

To me, this is affordable luxury hotel.

Dear KennethLimBW,

We thank you for your comment about our pool, spacious comfortable room, widespread breakfast and well kept hotel. The resort which is built in the early 90's has mostly maintained its original design along with antique furniture, carvings and handicrafts scattered around the resort hence "the old world charm".

The Bayview on the other hand offers affordable quality along with friendly and efficient service for a lesser price. Thank you for staying with us and endorsing us as a good luxury hotel and we hope to welcome you sometime soon.
