“Pleasantly surprised”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2011

This turned out to be a good deal better than my (possibly faulty?) preconception that Holiday Inns are very standard and somewhat bland. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, and Stella (the manager) is very 'hands-on' making sure that everything is as it should be. We started in the main building, but mentioned to Stella that we would have preferred to be in the Ferringhi Tower across the road for the balcony and sea view. The next morning, she had already made arrangements for us to move. Rooms in the Tower block are recently refurbished - very spacious, clean and well furnished - would recommend this of the two buildings.
Good selection available for breakfast; Restaurant menu looked OK although we didn't use it - we went to the Food Court a short way away, where there is a huge range of really good food and extremely good value.

We spent 2 nights in Georegetown and always planned to spend 2 days at Batu Ferringhi. We visited on moped the day before to chek out the resort and look at a couple of hotels. The cheap guest houses are very basic, and if you are on a budget and happy with the beach they looked ok. We wanted a swimming pool. We walked in to the holiday inn and required about price. They wanted 600MYR a night! We were not going to pay that! So we decided to write a few hotel names down and go back to the net and have a look. The holiday inn resort was 300myr per night on bookings.com which we thought was ok for a 4 star hotel with lovely pool right on the beach so we booked that. When we arrived we a little put out to be told 'as we have a standard room we will be across the road in the ferringhi tower' and i made that point to reception! However the room we were in (1934) was a recently renovated room and was really nice. 2 x Double beds.. balcony.. and a huge bathroom with a bath and separate GOOD shower. It was very easy to cross the road or linked bridge to the main hotel and that is where the pool and restaurant are. The hotel is RIGHT on the beach. The beach is ok, but quite 'thin' as the sea come right up.. the water is murky but i wouldn't say dirty as we feared. But we spent our 2 days by the lovely pool - although the music by the pool was 1 annoying CD on repeat!! To eat/drink by the pool was ok.. clun s/w was 25myr and things like spring rolls or crudites wast 12myr and not bad. Beers as always quite steep at 20myr.. but a water 4myr and ice creams like magnums 10myr. We paid 320myr per night and i think it was ok value at that price. We wouldn't get to stay in hotels/resorts of this standard too often so we were happy! The town is a bit tacky and only come here if you want to chill by a pool etc.. nothing to really look at. Nice mixed atmosphere as usual out here.. all nationalities at the pool, girls in bikinis and also full Muslim dress and veil etc and everyone seems to be at ease with each other. Staff very friendly. We took bus 101 from Georgetown - 45 mins and only 2.70myr. Bus from the main station in GT.

Room Tip: 1934 was fine in the tower

A good hotel on the beach front, close to all local restaurants and markets etc. The second block across the road where we stayed at first did disappoint us as we thought we where going to stay in the main hotel. Once over the road we where delighted with the rooms. All new and had just been re furbished so evert thing was brand new and had that just opened feeling.
Pool had plenty of beds and seating areas but the pool at times became a free run for all the children and at times a little too loud and brash but as its a family hotel I guess this is normal.
Good staff who could not do enough for you.
Would return again when the kids are back to school!

Room Tip: Make sure you know what side of the road you are on! You may want a pool view but these are older.

My Husband & I stay here when ever we are in Penang. Great location. Beautiful setting on the beach. We always get a sea view room. You walk across a bridge to get to breakfast and the pool. Night markets are across the street and are fabulous. Rooms are quite roomy and always clean. Bathroom very clean. Staff are friendly and well trained. The bus is just across the road to go into Georgetown. Making arrangements for transfers to airport very easy. Last time we stayed we had some things to post home but missed the last post so the staff arranged to post them the next day, very helpful.

A mere sham. two buildings across a road connected with the bridge for which u need to climb around 20 stairs. No escalators are provided. Ideally in such a situation, you connect the two buildings with a standing escalator. Further, 90% of the rooms are in the other building (they call it "sea view/ Mountain view" rooms) across the road and not the "beach wing". The pool, kids area, beach, internet facility, restaurant or anyother facility that you can think of are in the beach-wing. The icing on the cake is that no information like this is provided on the site of Holiday inn. Further the staff in other building is not so pleasant. We had two kids with us and requested the management to allot us a room in beach wing. We are the priority club members. however, they comletely refused to do so. According for the 3 days that we stayed in, we used to walk from one building to another, for anything and everythning that we needed. To top it all if u call for food to your room, they dont clear the dirty plates inspite of calling them a number of times. Low on staff and manners, the other buiding is terrible to stay in. We have stayed in alot of holiday inn resorts, this has been one of the most disappointing experiences. Holiday inn has always been my choice wen with kids. my kids were frustrated after this experience. Nevertheless, as long as u are in "beach wing", the staff facilities etc remains as per the standards of Holiday inn. However, its not easy to get a room in beach wing.

Room Tip: Choose a room in the beach wing. the other wing has terrible services.

I have stayed at the Holiday Inn Resort many times over the years since 1993 whilst living & working in Malaysia. I recently droped in with a friend to have a quick beer at the pool bar during "Happy Hour", we only had the one drink and got the bill only to find i was being charged MYR 21 ++ for a small bottle of Guiness. Not so happy hour never again. Holiday Inn you need to review your bar prices. I will not be going there again anytime soon.

Two building across the road connected with a bridge. Beautiful Lobby and Restaurant. Outstanding Breakfast. Luxury rooms. Friendly staff. Night markets and a variety of restaurants (Arabic/Indian/Chinese/fast food chains) are facing the hotel. A beautiful beach is an added attraction. Select beach view rooms. internet is free in the lobby.
