“Great place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013 via mobile

A great place at a great price. It's ten seconds from the beach and night market. The atmosphere is friendly and laid back. Great community area for meeting people and hanging out. It's a little rough so if you're expecting the Holiday Inn don't go. But if you're into meeting new people and having a good time by all means go here! The owners are friendly and helpful as well.

Had a fantastic time with the family. At first we were a bit taken aback by the facilities & the smallness of our room. There were 4 of us in the family room and there was little room to move. However it grew on us. I see that it won an award for authentic atmosphere. That award was well given and most accurate. In the end l found that my family enjoyed the ambience of the guest house and the welcoming nature of our hosts and fellow guests.

Lazyboys, where can I start, if your travelling by yourself or with a friend or partner or group and want a proper backpackers hostel, this is it !
This is a hostel ran by Izan and his family, they go to great lengths to make you feel part of their family. I have stayed in many guesthouse's and hostels and this was one to remember. If you have a question about the island or whatever it may be there is always an answer from ISSN. During our stay it was Izan's wife's birthday and everyone was invited to join the family for food and birthday cake, this is the kind of generosity that was shown throughout our stay.
The social side of things were great too as guests would sit around chatting, listening to music etc, so getting to know people was made so easy.
The music studio is amazing, if you play an instrument and want to jam this is the place to be!
Myself and my girlfriend stayed in double room with fan and shared bathroom. For us it was fine, the room was clean, the toilets were always clean and although the water is cold for the shower (as stated) it's powerful which I liked.
The hostel is in a great area, just off the main road and 3 minute walk to the beach. Shops and places to eat are all around and the bus stops are right in front of the hostel.
So thanks everyone at lazyboys for such a good time and if we ever come back in this direction we will definitely be returning here!

I stayed in a private room and my immediate impression was what a dump the place is. All of the rooms open onto an outdoor area, which is where the common areas are. The rooms were dirty, with painted cement floors, ants everywhere (including on the bed) and dead bugs on the shelf in the bathroom, which smelled like an open sewerage pipe. In addition, the bathroom has only a cold shower and no sink, so washing your hands in a coordinated fashion is impossible. Also, the floor was wet even though I checked in at 9 pm.

Location is in a back alley of the main road, close to the main strip in batu ferringhi, but 18 km away from Georgetown (this equated to a one hour bus ride from where the penang ferry docks).

The private room was tiny, probably about 2x3 ish metres, and had lots of spaces in the walls stuffed with cardboard. This, coupled with the large gap under the door and in between the window panes meant that I could hear absolutely everything going on outside the room, including the host's children running around shouting until midnight, chairs scraping and the washing machine blaring until the wee hours. Music was also playing very late into the night. Mattress and pillows extremely uncomfortable. If you want to get a good night of sleep, this place is not for you. Went across the road to victors guesthouse and got a better room for 10 ringitt more.

Furthermore, after publishing this review I was contacted directly to my personal email by the owner and called an 'idiot' amongst other things. This review was also taken down for 'violating tripadvisor guidelines' (after reading the guidelines, it is still not clear which part is in violation). Clearly, this establishment has worked hard to build up its reputation and does not allow a negative review to be published without dispute.

I don't know where to start. Maybe the best hostel we've stayed in!? We only wanted 3nights max in Penang and ended up staying for a week and a half. The hostel should come with a warning as its very difficult to leave and it's hilarious to watch new guests arrive with only 2nights in mind and then end up extending their stay too. The hostel itself is so cosy, hammocks everywhere, a range of rooms, tv area with 100s of films, and a room including just about any instrument you can think of to play on, and great wifi. So much is free to use like beach matts, kitchen condiments,  books, games, fishing rods, its got it all. The common area makes it very easy to make friends if you are on your own and the two brothers that run the place with their family encourage everyone to get together through games or evening dinners they cook for everyone. You end up being friends with everyone in the hostel. The hospitality of the brothers and their family is just outstanding. An example would be the fact our cards got blocked for 3days and we had no money. It wasn't a problem for them, we could continue to stay as long as we needed as they believed we would settle up when we could. Simple belief in everyone of their guests. Not sure every pace would do this. You will also see them running around after everyone's needs making sure they have what they want to giving advice and booking stuff for guests at local rates not tourist. We read about the plug situation and were worried, but this is actually not a problem at all. There are plugs everywhere. This isn't a 5stars resort and it's not a flashpacking hostel, although I would argue you get more here than any modern hostel would provide. We also checked out a few of the other hostels and guesthouses in the area and feel lucky to have gone with instinct and booked here. I could go on and on because after two years living in and out of hostels, staying at lazy boys as been such a pleasant surprise.

Room Tip: If there are two of you, double rooms are better value.

Possibly the most cosy Guesthouse we have ever been too!!
Very authentic and friendly owners with a great sense for hospitality. If you got any wishes they do anything possible to make you feel comfortable. It is very sad, that some people seriously just put down 1 Star for this guesthouse because it is one of those places where you arrive for one night and then you end up staying for two weeks, like we did.

It is an ideal place for backpackers, just 100 metres away from the beach.
The wifi is, in contrast to many other hostels in asia, very fast and reliable, the usage is for free.

If you are just doing a visa run for Thailand, it is way more relaxing in Batu Ferringhi, where the guesthouse is, than in georgetown where it is very crowded.

The guesthouse offers a fully equipped kitchen and cheap possibilities to eat out are near by.

Book in and get infected by the lazyness ;)

We stayed at Lazy Boy's twice on our way in and out of Penang. The rooms are small, but clean. Ours had A/C and a power outlet. The water in the shower was cold, but the pressure was good. The rest of the travel lodge was well appointed - free wi-fi, free laundry, and outdoor hammocks for every few rooms. The owner Azlan was very accommodating and made us feel right at home. I would stay here again if I find myself in Penang in the future.
