***I want to preface my review for future guests by saying: there is poor wifi (in the main house only - not in room), there is NO swimming pool, and there are jellyfish in the waters around Penang. If any of these matter to you, don't book at Annie's! For some reason I saw several guests over our months in the area complain about these items so I wanted to give potential guests a heads-up!***
My 5yo daughter & I visited Malaysia over the summer. We were warmly welcomed by Annie and Raj as we stayed 10 days with them. This was such a wonderful experience that I highly recommend it! Not only did they have a wealth of information on Penang, Langkawi, and the mainland of Malaysia but they also really make everyone feel at home. While staying there, Annie made sure every guest was welcome. She often stocked favorite foods for the many travelers that came through her doors.
One of the best things was the morning continental breakfast (toast, coffee, tea) where we were able to interact with travelers from many different countries & cultures. We met Germans, Swedes, Aussies, British, and Slovenian families/couples. The international discussions and connections were amazing. While we stayed there we celebrated many events (birthdays, departures, etc). ***John J/JJ - If you ever read this I have bday picks of your party and never got your email...msg me!***
After our 10 day stay, they helped us move into a longer term rental home down the road. They introduced us to neighbors, helped us deal with Astro cable/phone & TM internet communication/language issues, and hire handyman and housecleaning services.
Don't forget to ask them about upcoming school breaks and holidays that may hinder transportation or sightseeing. Ask them about all things Batu Ferringhi (the morning market, where to get a Digi SIM card, bus route information, post office, local banks, great food stalls, and where to get groceries). We are already looking at another trip to Malaysia in 2014 and we'll definitely stay at Annie's again!
PS - As with pretty much most of SE Asia, there may be sugar ants around (even our stays at Hard Rocks and other resorts had them).
