“A Rock Too Far”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

We are Penang 'tragics' and have stayed at Golden Sands, Park Royal and now Hard Rock Hotel. Here's what we think.

POSITION
A little far away from the night market and restaurant areas but only a 10 minute walk. Most of the action is between Park Royal and Golden Sands

ROOM
We stayed in the lagoon room that backs on to one of the pool areas. This is fantastic. The room is quiet and the aircon is also quiet and as cold as you like. An all round excellent room.

LOBBY
It's small so when things get busy be prepared to get cosy. It also serves as a lobby bar. Happy Hours are disappointing as the type of drinks are limited to two!! Drinks seem a little more expensive than the other two hotels as dos the food

POOL AREA
Off from the lobby is a big pool area, great for kids big and small. Surrounding grounds are some what smaller than the other hotels.

FOOD/B'FAST
Breakfast is good lots to eat. We had one meal at BBQ night which was disappointing and expensive. You are better to walk the streets and check the many restaurants heading towards the other hotels. Check out the hawkers food huts they are sensational.

All up a great stay with friendly staff to help make your stay enjoyable

Room Tip: Lagoon room is great but limited all other rooms are what you would expect but ensure you get a room...

I spend a short holiday here for two nights.I booked a hillview deluxe room and got a complimentary upgrade to a sea view room. The check-in process was quick and got some welcoming drinks. The problem was the requests for this room.I requested for a twin bed, a non-smoking room and a higher floor. The check-in time stated there was 3:00 o'clock. However, when I check-In a bit earlier which is 2:30 and they told me that the higher floor of non-smoking room(floor 3 and 4) is not available anymore so they gave me a sea view room on the second floor.I request again for a room on the higher floor as the second floor couldn't see the sea view at all. They check for 5 min and came back to me with a sea view room on the fifth floor(a smoking floor).I was a bit upset with that as I already made the requests and I am still there much more earlier to get all those request. The services on the front desk was awesome but the house-keeping devices was horrible.I called the house-keeping to get extra towels but they sent it to me after 30 minutes that was taking so long. The room was comfortable, the balcony view was awesome, the size of the room was just perfect for three family members.

Room Tip: Do not get a sea view room on the 2 floor as the view is just the pool view

Hotel makes very nice impression when you go to reception and see nice swimming pool and sea in front of you. We got upgrade for the sea view room from hills view however we had view straight for child swimming pool. There was so noisy that we could not open the window during the day what is a problem especially if you don't have children and like calm. We didn't ask to change the room as we spent only 3 nights and spent little time in our room.
Room was very spacious, clean and looked stylish- even with CD player. Nice design, painting and great open bathroom with nice cosmetics. We liked it very much.
Beautiful swimming pool with nice garden. There is a part aside from children swimming pool that you can relax and swim in calm. Well equipped gym.
Every night live music was also great.
Breakfast was OK but from such hotel we expected more- maybe because of great breakfast we had before in Singapore. Choice of food was ok, not everything we liked and it was luck of the simpliest things such as boiled egg.
Finally I have to admit that it perfect place for people with children. We were conscius of that after reading opinions. For short stay it is good place for pairs but for longer time it could be a bit irritating- I mean so much noisy children.
What is good idea is fact that there is a hotel free bus to Batu Ferringhi center.

Room Tip: Best rooms are on the ground floor-private enter to the poll. Ask for room in calm place or you will...

Check in service was fast, check out was too. Room cost and nice. Toilet rather cramp but not a big deal. Lobby area is with loud music. Pool is nice and fun. Have access to beach area. Not too bad. Breakfast s served with a loads of varieties. Staffs are friendly.

Room Tip: I wouldn't recommend the rooms on ground floor with direct access to the pool as there is not mu...

This was our second trip - the first time we've ever been back to a hotel. And it didn't disappoint.

Last time we went as a couple, this time with a young son.

The staff are fantastic, from check in, to the restaurants, to the lifeguards and the kids' club girls.

The pool is vast, and has plenty for everyone -- from lazing about in the shallows, to swimming properly, to splashing around in the fountains and playing on the water flumes.

Not a bad word to say - would thoroughly recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the Kings Club for free snacks and drinks every afternoon, and a more relaxing breakfast...

Stayed here for 6 nights over Easter. We made a few requests regarding the room and weren't sure whether we would get them filled, but they were. Thanks HRP!

Check in/out: A short wait for the check-in (about 10 mins) and room wasn't ready so had to wait another 30 mins or so even though it was 4 in the afternoon (but it was Easter so we expected it to be busy). Check out was smooth- a few mins only.
Breakfast: Not too bad- good curries, no pork (naturally), busy but satisfactory.
Pizzeria: Great pizzas, very delicious, lovely staff, not busy. Cocktails were weak.
Pool: We were fortunate enough to have a lagoon deluxe room so swimming everyday was easy (we even snuck a few night swims). Waterslides were fun for my young daughter and it was hard to drag her away from them.
Kids Club: Small but well attended by three staff.
Beach: Forget it. Do not come here for a beach holiday. This is a poolside holiday.
Night Market: Free shuttle to night market which is typical Sth-East Asian. Get the free shuttle to Longbeach cafe food court which is the best eatery I have ever been to. Tens of stalls selling foods from around the globe. This foodcourt was the main reason for choosing Penang for the holiday.
