“Great place to relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

I spent 2 nights in the hotel and was very pleased with my stay. The Hotel is located in quite a quiet area within easy walking distance to the shops and restaurants. The room was big and well furnished. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. We especially enjoyed the pool, really large and great for relaxing. The drinks at the pool bar were quite expensive, to be expected in a big resort, but made us drink outside of the resort more than we would have liked. I can also recommend the food! Breakfast was great, a very large selection of western and Malaysian food. We also had one evening meal at the Hard Rock Cafe, but we went a bit early (at about 6pm) as the restaurant was empty and lacked the usual character.....so go later!

The only down side to the Hotel was that it seemed more popular with families rather than younger couples. Also the whole area seemed more suited to 'the older generation'. So if you want relaxing, this is the place for you! If you want more of a social scene, go to Georgetown

Stayed 2 Nites via a Groupon deal. Not quite like the one in Bali. Need to go to Hard Rock Cafe at nite to catch the Band. Receptionist was not too polite (I thought I told you earlier!!??) and my King Size bed was made up of 2 Twin Beds!? Certain stuff were not working so we Maintenance was not great. Breakfast was standard buffet fare and location was deep inside Ferringhi.

The hotel staff were very good I arrived in the early hours off the morning 03.00hrs they could not have been more helpful as I was very tired after a 18hr journey. During my stay the hotel was alway clean and staff always helpful the pool area was great for children and there was always room for swimming even when the pool had a lot of people in and around. I booked full board and the menu was not great if I went again I would only book bed & breakfeast as there are three place to dine over all a nice holiday hotel

As others have posted this hotel has it's good and bad points. We were there with small kids, they loved the pool area. Our 4 year old enjoyed the kids club but all she ever seemed to do there was watch videos except for a small cooking class and a dance class ( some days). If you didn't have kids and were thinking you were coming to a rocking place I think you would be disappointed. The kids pretty much take over the pool area and really that's the only reason to pick this hotel over others. Also not sure why a hotel that is designed in a way that caters to families pretty much only has rooms with one bed in them. The staff weren't all that helpful and certainly didn't make it memorable except the last night when we had a horrible experience with housekeeping. During all 7 days of our stay our little one napped from 1-3 in the afternoon when they came to clean our room. A couple of times we put out the do not disturb sign and then called when he woke up. On the last day we called at 3:30 and again at 5 before we went out for supper. It wasn't cleaned by 8 when we got back and wanted to get our kids to bed. We had to keep harassing them and final at 9:40 they came to clean the room explaining it took them so long because it was late and they usually had minimal staff on at that time. By this time the kids are so overtired that they really aren't very pleasant to be around which carried over into our next day in Hong Kong and the next day in Beijing. Usually I wouldn't have even bothered but the kids had spilled some of their snacks in the bed and it would have been a very unpleasant sleep. The swim up bar staff and at the pizzeria were not very friendly and bordering on rude. We had the breakfast which was good and a nice variety but ate out at the night markets which was way more reasonably priced and a bit more authentic. We did have one meal at the Hard Rock Cafe though and my husband loved the burger. We didn't really bother going to the beach because the pool has it's own beach and when you go to the beach you just get harassed by the touts anyways.

The hotel itself is wonderful, very clean and modern. If our childern were younger it would have been an ideal enviroment for them, as children can be supervised easily with the layout of the property. Food was great and the service attentive.
The only real problem I had wsa that I booked a room through Otel.com to stay for a week at the Hardrock and shortly after (within a couple of days) decided to upgrade the room type through Otel.com.
Otel.com clearly stated on their site that you could choose a Seaview Deluxe room or a Seaview Deluxe with Balconey, I decided to 'upgrade' to the room with a balconey and paid the extra money as requested by Otel.com.
Arrived at the Hardrock and surprise ,suprise ALL seaview rooms have balconies, they don't have any seaview room without a balconey even though you get to pay Otel.com for an upgrade.
After a lengthy email exchange with Otel.com they explained the extra cost as the last night I booked was $270pn (just a regular weekday night) and the other six night were $160pn ??? even though I had emails requesting the upgrade.
They wear you down with their rubbish emails but in the end its just like banging your head against a wall ,you just stop because it feels better...AVOID THEM.

Room Tip: Just book a seaview room ... you get a balconey thrown in at no EXTRA cost.

During my stay at HRH recently, I had some good and bad experience.

Upon check-in the reception staff was unhelpful and even made a remark that I was offered the best room deal. Concierge staff were great and very helpful. Not much to rave about their breakfast. I enjoyed spending my time at the pool and the pizza was terrific. Overall, this is just an average hotel. There are better hotels around Penang especially Rasa Sayang in Batu Ferringhi and G Hotel in Gurney Drive, Penang.

Room Tip: Deluxe room or Lagoon room.

Nothing memorable about it. Now that I've been there, I have no intention to return. The hotel was a-ok but it was the other guests had made my experience unpleasant which the hotel can't do much about.

It was crowded, kids walking around dripping wet from the pool. Parents sat by the pool and leave their kids run wild (there is a difference about kids having fun VS creating nuisance that affect other guests).

If you must go, avoid peak period.
