“Worth the money, awesome hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2011

Definitely worth the price, we got a nice seaview Deluxe room, with very good view (pool+sea). The hotel's staffs are all friendly and courteous. Room is very modern+chic. Hotel has lots of memorabilia, suitable for those who are into Rock music. Food is just alright but probably can expand on the menu. The Rock Shop is also great as there are lots of nice souvenirs to purchase (price could be more affordable). The pool is large and the entire hotel is kids friendly (which is great if you want to bring your toddlers along). The beach could be cleaner.

Room Tip: Book a 'Seaview' room or the 'Plunge Pool' room

This was our 4th trip to penang but first time staying at Hard Rock. The Hotel is nice, friendly and accomodating staff. We had booked interconnecting/hillview rooms. When we got there we were told there were no interconnecting rooms left, however once we explained we had young children, staff were quick to inform us that they could give us seaview interconnecting room at no extra cost, which was a great relief. The kids pool area is fantastic. My kids and the others in our large group absolutely loved it. They do have a kids club but found kids didnt want to go in it and really no need for it as pool area fantastic. There is a very large pool where there are less children for adults to escape too as well! Music is obviously a big part of the hotel. Music is palying around the pool side and adds to the atmosphere. However if you don't like the loud music then probably not the hotel for you. Our room sat on top of the lobby area and the live band played till 11pm on friday and sat nights which was ok if you wanted to listen to it, if you didn't then too bad because you were not getting to sleep anyway! The room was quite spacious and clean. Breakfast was good but have had better in hotels around the area. Location is ok, there are a couple of nice/cheap restaurants nearby and about a 5 - 10 minute walk to the night market. Overall a great hotel for families, probably not for your romantic get away, but for couples with children a winner!

Room Tip: quieter rooms away from lobby

What a fantastic property. This was our first encounter with "Hard Rock" and trust me it won't be our last. It is such a cool concept and this team do it extremly well. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, our room was great, service was great, and basically I couldn't fault the property. What I really liked is how all the staff genuinly appear to be having a great time, as well as working really hard, I beleive this is quite rare, but great to experience. Compliments to an obviously awesome management team you rock....

Being big fans of the Hard Rock Cafe chain, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to stay at a Hard Rock Hotel for the first time on our recent holiday to Penang. We weren't disappointed. We chose to stay in a lagoon room, such a novelty and wonderful experience, having direct access to the pool from our suite. The lagoon pool was sensational, the temperature was just right and with our room near the far end of the pool, most times it felt like the pool was all ours. Our greeting was as you would expect from a top class hotel - efficient, friendly and a very welcome cold drink to enjoy. The room was terrific, with music memorabillia and great entertainment system that included an ipod dock. The TV had many channels, but ours stayed mainly on one of the three dedicated Hard Rock channels. We upgraded to include Kings Club priviledges and were very impressed. Breakfast in the Club was a treat with ala carte cooked meal to complement the buffet cereals, breads, pastries and awesome rendang. In the afternoon a light afternoon tea was served and in the evening from 6.00pm - 8.00pm cocktails and canapes were served with great efficiency & friendliness from By, "Tweetybird" and the rest of the team. Nothing was too much trouble.
The gym was well equipped and we both had a great massage at the Spa, although my wife's was a little firm and she was sore for a couple days afterwards.
Being in our mid-40's we couldn't resist the opportunity to bring out our "inner child" by using the waterslides. The gardens were lovely and well maintained. We thoroughly enjoyed our Hard Rock experience, although it must be said that we were fortunate to stay when occupancy was quite low. We wandered past a couple of days after checking out and the entire pool area was packed, and it was only 10.30am, so I would suggest staying at off-peak times for maximum enjoyment.

Room Tip: Book a Lagoon Room

Arrived after about an hours drive from Taiping to Penang. checking into the hotel was a breeze as it wasn't during peak. welcome drinks were ok. got to the rooms, they were clean and funky (as expected of Hard Rock) i think we had elvis painting in the bath. nice firm beds and cosy. no complains. the rooms sound proofing is good and can get a real good sleep. room service brought us a playpen for our little one but then a couple of hours later... the same dude rang our door and was asking if we requested for a playpen. errr okkk funny how that the 'system' didn't refresh the request.

the kids waterpark area was nice but if you have really young kids (1-3yrs), my suggestion is to keep an eye for them. its more friendly for kids of ages 4 and up. the dangerous part of the waterpark play area is the mini flyingfox which cuts right in the middle of the play area. with all the fun that the kids would be having its easy for them not realise someone might be swinging on this and can get knocked down easily. regardless just practise caution in any waterpark.

the nice restaurant would be Pizzeria. thats where you can have your buffet breakfast. the food is fresh and good ocean breeze to boot (if the wind blows). not bad at all. good service here.

what i was kind of disappointed about was the lack of communication between the restaurants. upon booking, we took the promo where it entitles us for a dinner at HRC itself. later we were told that HRC was full due to someone elses event happening on the same night. we were told that we can have the dinner in another restaurant (Starz Diner) but the menu would still come from HRC. so thats fine with us BUT...on the day when we went there for dinner, no soul knew about this. there was a 15-20min confusion, literally one person looks at another dumbfounded (we were like the 2nd customers in the restaurant)

later they had to go over to HRC to check yet didn't have a clue on that side as well. eventually i think they just complied as we had dining coupons for HRC. its a bit disappointing for this to happen. its as though as they wash their hands clean of us by passing us on to another restaurant. its poor especially for a Hard Rock brand hotel!

Room Tip: check online for promos

I stayed there for 2 nights in the 2 nd week of June 2011 with my sister. The hotel is actually the old Casurina Hotel renovated. although the swimming pool is new, it is actually not very big and I wonder whether this will be too crowded in summer.
The breakfast is ok . we had ordered dinner a la carte at one of the restaurants, the Pizzeria. The food was just ok but the prices quite steep compared to the level in Penang.
The hotel is located at the far end of the beach which means that there is a good 5 mintes walk to the night market which starts at Holiday Inn. the walk would be ok during the day time but since there are no lights and no pavements along some of the parts, I would not recommend walking to the night market where a no9. of restaurants are located at night.
The distance from the hotel to George Town ( the old town which makes up the World Heritage site) is I thinik 8 Km and the cost of a taxi would be 40 riggit ( US$15). But we caught a bus which stops right outside the hotel and the cost was just 2.7 Riggit. the bus ride was a full 1 hour with no traffic jam. So be prepared to travel long distance if you stay in this hotel.
Finally, because I am not a huge fan of the decor of this hotel where they have a huge picture of a pop star facing the shower in the bathroom .

Room Tip: the best rooms are those facing the beach.
