“excellent place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

we did not know about De Oude Kombuis when we visited Montagu and probably it would not have been our 1st choice because we were concentrating on places to eat around our hotel. But on our last stay at mystic tin , the owner requested if the morning breakfast could be served at their restaurant De Oude Kombuis as the mystic tin staff had their weekly off the next day. 3 of our group were vegetarian and that was not the problem and the manager said she would inform her husband who ran De Oude about our dietary preferences. next day when we landed there we found out from a very flustered husband that the manager had forgot to tell him about our dietary preferences but that we should not worry and he will make a plan! boy what a plan it was!! we have never seen such a huge breakfast in any of b and bs we have stayed before. both herbivours and carnivours bunch in our group were impressed with the quantity and more importantly the quality of the breakfast. it was yummy! the friendly host and his charming stories added to the whole experience of sitting in the garden and eating a hearty meal!highly recommended

“Sanctuary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013 via mobile

De Oude Kombuis has become a sanctuary for me. I go often to get spoilt by the nutritious and delicious food. Alan an Cynthia are experienced foodists and understand how important quality ingredients are. It's a privilege to go there often!

“One time experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

My fish was overcooked and dry - the service pretty slow. The lamb shank was good, though. Restaurant was fully booked - perhaps that was the reason.

“Excellent Family Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

We always stop at De Oude Kombuis in Robertson and Montagu.
The perfect stop for a quick meal when travelling - or a leisurely dinner when you have more time.
My personal lunchtime special is the Venison Pie server with a side salad and wedges. It is an excellent meal and worth a short wait.
My son has a huge appetite and devours the usual lasagne's from restaurants and then wants to know what's for lunch. The Oude Kombuis lasagne's seem to be able to fill those hidden area's most meals do not dare to explore.
I have had some of the best wines from the congenial host Alan - he alone is a good reason to visit this restaurant. Charming, witty, intelligent and a great raconteur - the perfect host.

Visit de Oude Kombuis - you will not be disappointed.

“Home cooked food that tasted delicious!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

This was our favorite stop during the entire trip. The food was obviously home-made; and delicious. The portions were more than fair and bread and soup were so good we almost drove back a few hundred kilometres to sample them again. Great place to buy supplies for a road trip.

thoroughly enjoyed.
