Dear Daleen

Thank you so much for your review,

All of the staff really enjoyed having your group here and hope that you will return next year. There has been a few changes to our establishment as well and I'm sure once you return you will immediately feel even more at home and another thing we changed is the bar area now has it's own music :-)

Thank you once again for your review, we really appreciate it,
Looking forward to having you here with us again.

Kind Regards

This was a stop over on route to Barrydale. I received excellent friendly service from Kati and her staff. Perfect atmosphere, good food and wine. The rooms were very neat and tidy. I would definitely recommend this hotel

Dear Elaine

Firstly thank you for taking time and placing an review, we really appreciate this.

We are glad that you made us your stop on your way to Barrydale and we hope you enjoyed your time in Barrydale as much as you enjoyed your time with us.

We put in great effort in the restaurant in our food and wine and are glad that you enjoyed it. The wine maker Lourens van der Westhuizen compiled our wine list and also put a lot of effort into it to get most of the local wines on our Wine List.

We hope to see you again and thank you once again for your review.
Regards to Paarl

As a 69 year old retired couple we have travelled extensively. Per choice we do not stay at B&Bs but always choose hotels, but are wary of non "chain" hotels. Well this one exceeded a 5 star hotel. Outstanding restaurant. Internet ad does not do hotel /service/ quality/ price justice!!

Dear Derrick

Firstly I would like to thank you for placing your review, we really appreciate you taking time and writing your review.

I'm extremely glad to read that you found our establishment exceeds 5*.
People don't always like non "chain" hotels because they don't know what to expect, but I'm glad you gave us a chance and that you and your wife were happy.
We are trying very hard to give the best food, service and presentation in our restaurant and thank you for noticing this.

We look forward to seeing you again and spoiling you and your wife,

Kind Regards

The evening meal was excellent, the atmosphere of the place is beyond belief. My wife was extremely pleased with the vegetarian item on the menu. Two three course meals and a bottle of fine wine for under 500r
We will stay longer next time.

Room Tip: If you do not have reservations get there early, soon fills up.

Dear Guest

Firstly I would like to thank you personally for placing your review. We are glad you enjoyed your time with us and that you were satisfied, You are absolutely right this hotel fills up very quickly and our restaurant as well.

We always try to cater for everyone and in this industry it's not always that easy, but we are very flexible when it comes to Vegetarian and Vegan options. I'm glad your wife enjoyed her meal and that you found it value for your money.

We look forward to seeing you and spoiling you again.

We stopped here for one night and weren't disappointed - the rooms have just been redone and are large and airy with a working aircon (very important at nearly 40degrees). The location is perfect for a little stroll through town. The hotel is one of the oldest in town and the receptionist seems to have been there since its opening - she just seems a little batty but this all just adds to the small town flair.

We were driving to Oudtshoorn and planned to stop over en route and spend the night in Montagu. We booked directly with the hotel after reading about it on trip advisor. We dealt with Bonnie and she was extremely helpful and professional
We arrived at the hotel late afternoon and were met and greeted by Bonnie and staff were on hand to take our bags to our rooms. Check in was quick and efficient
Our rooms were at the front of the hotel and were spacious, clean and comfortable – huge bathroom. Coffee making facilities in the room and homemade rusks were a nice touch.
We met our friends in the bar – the bar man was the same guy who helped with our bags and he was also the waiter at dinner that night – he has been with the hotel for years and was very helpful – real old school manners – very nice
We decided to eat at the hotel that evening and I must say the food was excellent! We had the Karoo lamb which was excellent. I had the fillet steak - superb. The wine list was extensive and well priced.
The décor of the hotel is country Victorian – lots of nice touches and not over fussy. The hotel is well renovated. There was a pool and an outdoor courtyard.

The only drawback was the lack of WIFI. You can ask for a code but it didn't seem to materialise. WIFI is getting cheaper and cheaper in South Africa and most establishments can and should offer uncapped WIFI at no charge. However, a lot does depend on the lines that Telkom have put in so out in the country side it may be more difficult. I think the admin is a bit on the weak side
Breakfast the next morning was very good. I had the fruit and home made bread and coffee and the rest of our group had the cooked breakfast that they declared excellent
There is not really a lot to do in Montague but if we were heading back this way in the future then we would stay at The Victorian 1906 again. Well priced. Hospitable staff, clean and central.

Room Tip: I think the rooms we had in the main hotel upstairs at the front are probably the best
