“Good but not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2014

My husband and I spent a weekend here for my birthday and our wedding anniversary. it was undoubtably a beautiful location. So picturesque and scenic. We purposefully chose a couples only resort as we wanted time away from noise with some relaxation and this we definetly got. We snorkelled unlimitedly- we practically had the beach and pool to our selves on most of the days we were there.
The staff we friendly, often calling us by first name basis and made adjustments for our special dietary needs which was much appreciated.

Unfortunately we did not find the experience a 5 star one. We arrived late in the evening and were shown to our room by a security guard. We found this odd that reception was not manned at this time. The menu probably had enough variety to last a few days there and certainly was very well presented but the taste was not up to a 5 star quality and the pricing extortionate. The pancakes were very Bready and pastries hard. The peppercorn sauce with chicken I ordered tasted simply of strong cheese. Also room service was only available till 21:30 pm and being used to late nights we found this a little disappointing. The rooms were well presented but we often woke to dead bugs on the floor and we were always short of soap- given only one soap for both shower and wash basin on both nights we stayed. The room also was not " tidied and made neat" as one would expect from a 5 star hotel. We were thrilled to see a pool bar but unfortunately this was not in working order and we had to dial the main bar to have someone send drinks over.
We were also advised we would be receiving complimentary sunset cruise- but this never happened as the boat was not in working order.
Although the staff in the dining hall were lovely- so pleasant and attentive, little could be said for the reception staff. We wanted to book zip lining and we we told it would be booked and we would be gotten back to about our timing. This was not done. More importantly we were given a different price as to the one originally quoted when we finally approached the desk. On check out we didn't receive the customary pleasantries you would expect but just charged an extra 3.5 percent for using a debit card ( not credit card) without being informed of this.
No doubt this is a beautiful spot to vists- peaceful and so relaxing but having travelled around the world with lots of experience in 5 star resorts, this has a lot to catch up to.

Room Tip: No point in going for the ocean view rooms. The pool villa rooms overlook the ocean anyway!

Dear Clusters4
I am sorry we did not quite meet your expectations but if you were expecting 5 stars I understand that we fail you there. We are not a 5 star resort but a 4.5 star, as we do not have 24 hours receptionist or 24 hr room service, as you rightly pointed it out. We do endeavor to deliver great friendly service in a beautifully set out resort, and no one ever had an issue to be shown to their villas in the middle of the night by our security. Now I do agree with you it is not the always the ideal situation, but considering where we are, it is a good compromise.
Effectively the pool bar is not open, as very often there is no one around the pool, hence the reason we have put a phone there and our staff will monitor the pool if we have guests there. We do open it if we have many guests are at the pool.
The bugs are unfortunately part of life in the tropics, and we do have in place a regular spray program run by professional pest controllers that does not stop them from entering but guaranty a speedy death to these annoying insects.
And regrettably for you and us, the catamaran that we used for our sunset cruise was damaged during the last cyclone and it may be a while before it is repaired, however I am endeavoring to find an alternative boat which is proving to be a challenge.
I will follow up with our front desk, as to why your zip line excursion was not booked and review our departure procedure, as normally the staff are friendly, they do ask how was your stay and they do explain that all credit/debit cards incur a surcharge of 3.5%.
I thank you for your review and your comments, and I hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back at the Havannah.
Kind regards
Frederick

Food...outstanding
Staff...warm, friendly, fun and gorgeous
Rooms...beautiful, modern, luxurious (we opted for the poolside room which was a great balance of cost vs privacy)

Overall...glorious, highly recommended, would be back again if there weren't so many other places to explore

This place is awesome...well done to Havannah team

There is no better place to relax than right here!

The food was phenomenal with plenty of variety, our barmen Jimmy and Marco made the best cocktails ever and were more than happy to try new things for us.

Deserted island picnic was outstanding, and the local snorkelling was great fun.

Room Tip: Rooms by the pool are well worth it, comfy, private and walking 5 steps from the deck to the persona...

My husband and I were celebrating our 50th birthdays and 27th wedding anniversary. We wanted a tropical resort where we could chill out and spend time together and leave life at home for a little while. It was amazing!!! Great food, fantastic service, sometimes it felt like we were the only ones there. We spent seven nights in a Lagoon pool villa (#6) and went snorkelling at least twice a day. If your looking for a quite, romantic holiday and want to be treated like royalty, this is the place to go....it's paradise!

Room Tip: Our Lagoon Villa was fantastic as it has the big pool, privacy was not an issue!

Amazing place and great service. The cabins are modern and clean. Food is extraordinary. Staff is very friendly. Frederic has been an amazing hosts. The half day picnic was a great start of the short break. I don't understand why some reviews sad it was boring???? So many snorkelling spots, great food and wine, secluded beach..... What more can someone asked for!!!! We were quite fussy with what to visit and where to go , but Frederic managed to find exactly what suited us. Picnic at the beach, canoeing, climbing volcano and visiting local villages. The havannah is highly recommended!!!!

We do try to have all the information and contacts in order to provide our guests with the right experience and tours. I am pleased to read that we were successful at organizing what you wanted. It is important for our guests to communicate with us as we can organize anything; the people that may have found our destination boring probably did not communicate with us properly. In any case, I hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back at the Havannah soon.

My husband & I celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary at the Havannah 2 weeks ago. We spent 6 nights at the resort and had a fabulous holiday. The most stressful part was deciding what to eat from the fabulous menu - my husband is still raving about the green papaya salad and king prawns. The snorkelling was great fun (and we saw a couple of turtles on the reef just outside the boat shed), as was the tennis, stand up paddleboard and the baby catamaran.
All the staff were great, very friendly and our villa (number 12) was just magic.
rarely have we been on holidays and have been unable to fault something - but this time we were blown away with how trouble free our holiday experience was. I think what made it so good is that the staff genuinely seemed to enjoy working at the resort - there was a great atmosphere - no sign of tension which is a credit to Frederick and his staff
