“"Romantic, relaxing, luxury, couple resort"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2011

My husband and I recently spent five amazing days at this very romantic, relaxing, luxury resort and we experienced a holiday we will talk about for years. The managers Tish and Owen have created a piece of MAGIC in Vanuatu. The privacy, clean modern rooms, amazing food, friendly staff, immaculately neat grounds and the overall feeling of the whole resort, make this the perfect couple getaway.

Vanuatu is only a 2hr flight from Brisbane and this is something they should capitalise on, as there are not many places from Australia where you can be in such beautiful weather, sandy beaches and crystal clear waters in such a short time. We only had a few days to have our first child free holiday in 11 years and the distance to Vanuatu appealed to us. We flew Pacific Blue on the way there and Air Vanuatu on the return trip to accommodate our restricted times. Both were great flights however we felt the service and staff on Air Vanuatu were better. I believe there is a 4hr direct flight from Melbourne which we will take next time we go.

The transfer from the plane was handled very professionally by Adventures in Paradise and we were at the resort in 40mins. We were greeted by staff who took our baggage and escorted us to the main building. We were warmly welcomed and given a cool tropical drink. We were given a short tour and explanation of how the resort runs. We were then taken to our villa. We were in Villa 16 and this we feel the best location in the resort. We overlooked the beach and we were far enough away from the main building. Mind you this resort is very quiet and you never have to worry about noise. With only 17 bungalows sometimes you have the whole place to yourself when people are out exploring. The villa was no surprise which is a bonus; they looked exactly as the photos portrayed! They were well set out to capture the wonderful view, modern, clean and tasteful. We booked a deluxe waterfront villa which had its own private deck with plunge pool and swinging day bed. It was wonderful to sit and relax in the plunge pool whenever you felt like it or lay and read on the day bed.

Tish and Owen run a tight ship at The Havannah. The staff keep the grounds very neat and tidy and this adds to the feel of luxury. The food at the Hotel was top class. Vanuatu with its French History is all about quality food. The French cook on site created amazing meals, incorporating local delicacies. We only ate at the resort and enjoyed every single meal. If you stayed here longer venturing into town for lunch would add more variety. The new main pool area looks amazing and is so quiet. Every time we swam there we were the only people in the pool and the resort was fully occupied. The pool bar wasn’t open often but you only have to ask. Tish stated whatever you need just ask.

Dining on the beach was so romantic (3 per night) with the bonfire each night and if you want it even more romantic book dinner on the private jetty, for one couple only with a glass bottom, so you can see all the fish!

The Havannah is a 40min trip from Port Vila town centre and the resort offer a transfer every morning at 10am and return trip at 4pm. They also recommend a taxi service that costs about $25. We didn’t do much but truly relax as we were only there for a few days. However we did visit the Cascade Falls which were beautiful. It took 20min to walk to the top (through some water) and it was so refreshing to swim in the fresh water under the waterfall. My tip to anyone doing this is wear rock shoes. Everyone else was and it made it so much easier. Rock shoes are a must on the coral beaches and the resort provide these complimentary in their equipment shed. In that shed they also supply snorkelling equipment, fishing gear, wetsuits etc. While we were there Tish and Owen held a drinks night on the beach. Tish welcomed everyone and explained that at The Havannah there is no need to check in equipment or towels etc., the items are just there to be used.

A must do for anyone travelling here is to book a trip out snorkelling with James from Kustom Divers. We have scuba dived and snorkelled in many places and this was trip was by far our best ever! We were taken out on our own in a small boat to what I can only describe as a tropical garden. It was like being dropped into an aquarium. The water was crystal clear and teaming with fish and we even saw a turtle which made our day. James knew exactly what to do to make this the experience of a life time. For only $25 each it was more than worth the money. This trip is for beginners to the experienced.

We didn’t exchange any money at the airport which I’d recommend you do as there are no facilities at the resort; however everything we did accepted Australian dollars.

Vanuatu is not a cheap destination like Bali or Thailand but if you are after something close to Australia with gorgeous beaches, amazing food and perfect weather then it’s the place to visit. If you can afford to stay at The Havannah you will not be disappointed. Read the reviews and considering how small this resort is and the small number of people writing reviews, they should easily be number one!

Room Tip: Get in early and book a deluxe water view villa

Words cannot express what a beautiful place 'The Havannah' is.
Everything about the place was amazing - cannot fault a thing.
Clean and modern rooms, great food, friendly staff (esp Lala and John), peaceful, quiet and its
BEAUTIFUL beach.
A romantic dinner on the jetty and/or beach is a must.

This is by far the best resort in Vanuatu. Although the price is expensive it is surely worth it. Stayed in a lagoon villa and it met my expectations. The only downside is the courtesy bus which only travels at certain times so if you need to go out it's often expensive to get back. Other than that a great stay. Food is about $30 per main so staying there 5 days with my girlfriend our bill came to around $600. Would deffinaly recomend comming here if you are to visit Vanuatu.

The staff at The Havannah where very helpfull. Nothing was a problem. The resort was well set out with enough privacy, but still able to mingle with others if desired. Food was excellent with a variety throughout our stay. Well worth going to. The most relaxing and pampered week I have ever had.

Room Tip: The pool view rooms are the best if you are after a spectacular view, but the Garden sunset rooms of...

Havannah Hotel ..............Stayed for 7 nights , Sept 2011.
A great choice for 'chilling out' . It has a spectacular location, top class bures, a state of the art pool, good watersport facilities, and a varied menu of well prepared food...we ate there each of the nights, and were not disappointed. Friendly helpful local staff.
This fairly new Hotel is 30 mins by car, on a good sealed road, from Port Vila, so a little isolated if you dont have your own transport. Nevertheless, if you are spending this sort of money on accomodation, you want to make the most of it as we did. The Hotel runs a shuttle to Port Vila twice a day free of charge which we used once , which suited our needs.

Very relaxing for young marrieds, and those without young families, as they have a policy of no under 16's..which is reflected in the lack of basic 'house' rules!

Room Tip: over pool bures would be my choice, but each type has its own attractions

Having visited Vanuatu many times before I have to say the Havaanah is without a doubt the best place we have ever stayed there. The location is just spectacular and it really is what you want in an island holiday. Everything about the place was top notch, from the service, friendliness of staff and the attention to detail second to none. One of the things we loved was the little extras, like the picnic ont he beach and dinner on the jetty. We had booked a villa for some of our stay but wished we had stayed at the Havannah longer...

Room Tip: Don't think there's a bad room in the place so any one is fantastic!

Just returned from the best holiday we have ever had... The Havannah .... Big thanks to all of the staff, Trish, Owen (Managers) Greg, Lala, Jonathon, John, Jennifer, Anita, Phil and new kid on the block Alfred, Helen for baking fresh bread every day.
The pool villas where fantastic, rooms are immaculate, from the day bed outside to relax and chill on and watch the sunset every night across the ocean, to the robes being put out for you every night. The restaurant was great, breakfast, lunch and dinner... thank you so much to all the staff that knew us by name when we walked in every day.
Anyone looking for romantic couples only get away we can thoroughly recommend to
......DO IT NOW!!!
PS… Make sure you try the scuba and snorkelling tours from Kustom Diving…. They are brilliant…
We are planning our next holiday to The Havannah……. Can’t wait!

Room Tip: Room 7, 8 or 9 pool, great views of the sunset across the pool
