I stayed 2 nights with Ron and Lorraine. I stayed in the Lodge part where you share bathrooms.
I normally stay in very nice hotels so this was an adjustment for me. But in return you have access to their expertise of the Tongariro crossing. I hired a private guide even though Lorraine thought I didn't need one. But I really enjoyed having the company and knowledge of a guide. In addition almost everyone staying at the lodge was doing the crossing so I was able to socialize/compare stories with others who were making the crossing. I loved the hike and would recommend it to those who love to tramp.

We recently spent 2 nights with Ron and Lorraine and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We toyed with the idea of organising the logistics involved with the Crossing ourselves but then chanced upon the Package offered by Adventure Lodge and Motel. The Package represents great financial value. Every aspect of it was well organised and very professional.
The big advantage of staying with these guys is that it becomes pretty clear very soon after arrival that they really do care about their clients and their experience.
The Crossing was a fantastic experience and well worth the effort. It was made even more enjoyable when completed as part of the Package.
We hope to return one day soon with our group of walking friends.

Whilst the accommodation is very basic you will not find friendlier hosts who are really in tune with what trekkers want and need. If you plan to do the Tongariro Crossing then the package is the way to go. Lorraine makes a great packed lunch for the crossing, and you can look forward to a spa and dinner at the end. They drop you off at the beginning and we only waited a mere 5 minutes to be picked up at the end. Lorraine gave us some great tips for places to see after we checked out which proved really worthwhile. Like I said, it's basic accomm but all well planned for trekkers.

We stayed at Adventure Lodge in January and had an excellent experience. The Tongariro package was ideal. Ron and Lorraine could not have been more helpful. As the weather was bad on the morning of the Crossing, Lorraine gave us the option of proceeding or doing a more local walk. We, and others, decided to proceed, but she offered to pick us up if we were back at the start by 14.30 or to go to the end by 16.00. We were prevented in completing the high section of the crossing by gales, so we went back to the start to meet Lorraine in the mini-bus. Few other operators will provide such a service. We recovered from our cold and wet hike in the hot spa at Adventure Lodge and had a good meal there in the evening. As we did not have time to repeat the crossing the next morning Lorriane offered to drive us up to Whakapapa (Ruapehu) for a local walk and then pick us up in time for our bus to Wellington. That was a freeby extra - thanks Lorriane. We had been given the wrong information on where to get the Intercity Bus to Wellington by the Naked Bus driver who took us to National Park from Taupo and on spotting us going in the wrong direction Lorraine chased after us and drove us to the correct bus stop, thereby preventing a major hassle. The accommodation is clean, quiet and friendly and all-in-all is to be highly recommended.

stayed here when we were doing the tongariro crossing. the accomodation is a little basic and could maybe do with a little modernising but it was clean and functional.
i was very impressed with the people who i encounterd there they appeard to truly care about those staying and how prepared we were for the tramp giving us plently of information and advice. we used the adventure lodge for our bus to the crossing and felt we could trust them in an emmergancy. i have heard horror stories about people being abandond if late down due to bad weather and having to take shelter but we were repeatedly told that if we needed to turn back just to contaxct them and i know for a fact they waited long after last pickup for a group that hadent come down yet as they sent me and my group on another hotels bus so they could wait for the last group.

Just did the crossing and stayed here with Lorraine and Ron. The package was awesome! Food was great and they were really knowledgable and friendly. Lorraine seemed to think herself personally responsible for the inclement weather though!! What a wonderful host you are, staying in your establishment was a great adjunct to our fabulous trek over the crossing.. Will come back again

If you need assistance and guidance with tours in the Nationalpark area Lorraine and Ron from the Adventure Lodge are certainly knowledgeable and helpful hosts. Breakfast is hearty and the accomodation is quite simple and practical. Unfortunatley walls in the rooms are very thin and if you are having neighbours who like to stay up and cook at night you won't get much sleep. In our shower the hand shower was broken and we had to be very careful not to hurt ourselves ! There was black hair in the bathroom as well as in our bed which is abolutely not tolerable for me! However, the Adventure Lodge does not claim to be a 5* star motel...Still a little renovation here and there and better cleaning would'nt harm.

Thank you for your positive feedback, I am pleased you had a wonderful time in the Tongariro National Park and you enjoyed your breakfast and the many different walks including the skyline trek. I can understand your disappointment expecting a 5 star unit, Adventure Lodge has a range of rooms and has a Tourism New Zealand Qualmark rating of 3 Star + Guest and hosted, this is advertised on our website and in our office. We consistently exceed customer’s expectation with our Tongariro Freedom Package and this is reflected in the positive online reviews. All our linen is commercially laundered and I am sorry there was a hair missed by housekeeping, had this been noticed or we had been informed we would have immediately rejected the sheets and remade your bed with another set of fresh linen. The previous guest broke a small piece off the holder of shower head attached to the rail; the replacement part only arrived after you checked out. I am sorry this was not mention to you when you checked in but as it was on the slider attached to the wall it did not affect the operation of the shower. It was lovely meeting you both and we hope you enjoyed the rest of you trip in New Zealand.
