“Ruapehu Crater Lake Guided Walk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

Took a truly Fantastic guided day walk up to the summit/crater lake of Mt Ruapehu - http://www.mtruapehu.com/ I would highly recommend going with a guided group, as the route isn't marked and it could take a lot longer and be dangerous otherwise. Starts off with a 20 minute chairlift ride then walking on rocks and in snow. Took 2.5 hours to get to the top and 1.25 hours to come down as the guides pick out safe places to "slide" down in the snow, like on a waterslide. Make sure you take sunglasses, sunblock, warm hat, gloves, waterproof coat and overtrousers, and wear proper tramping boots. Anyone reasonably fit can do this amazing experience, we had 8 and 9 year old kids in our group.

Fantastic place for all who enjoy the outdoors and awe-inspiring scenary. Never get tired of looking at the mountain, from different angles, different light, different time of the day, different weather. Always incredible.

“Awesome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

The thing about New Zealand itself is the overwhelming beauty and the awesome state of preservation you can find most natural places in.
Tongariro National Park was no exception. We made the long walk through the base of Mount Ruapehu and despite require some physical fitness it was well worth it.

We stayed at an awesome camper van park with above average conditions with a breathtaking view to the Mount itself.
Would definitely do it again.

“Great views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

We were here at the end of September with our 12 and 14 year old kids for our first experience in the snow. The views on the drive to both Whakapapa and Turoa ski fields are amazing, the roads very winding, but our subaru forrester made it with ease. The beginner areas were closed for skiing as much of the snow had been washed away by heavy rain, but we still got to play in the snow at Whakapapa and try out skiing at Turoa. I would definitely recommend getting local knowledge on the weather and taking the ski lift for the wonderful views of snowy mountains. As Lord of the Rings fans, we also enjoyed seeing the picturesque 'Mt Doom' (Mt Ngaurahoe).

“Fantastic views from Whakapapa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2013

After doing a couple of smaller walks in the park we decided to get the site seeing lift ticket to go up since it was such a clear day. Everyone said it was freezing at the top, and it did get a bit chilly, but we didn't need all of our layers at the top (but better safe than sorry!) The views from the lift were pretty awesome and at the restaurant they were even better. We had a mulled wine and found a good seat outside...we were able to see Taranaki looming in the distance it was so clear, that was pretty amazing.
