“Really the only decent place to eat.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014

This had a nice pub feel to it. The menu was a little pricey for what they offered but the meal was nice and well cooked. The staff were pleasant and it was very busy with locals. We would go back :)

“beer and rugby”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2014

A great respite after our cave adventure in Waitomo, the thirsty weta featured a welcomingly warm leek and potato soup and a fabulous lamb wrap. Felt just right watching the junior rugby championships on the Telly!

“Best place in town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2014 via mobile

We came here for dinner and breakfast, both times the staff were so nice and friendly. The food was perfect, a must try is the mussels and pork belly. Food is well priced. Great place to come to start your day or end your night. Very happy!

“The only place open”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2014

There are few places in Otorohanga to have a memorable meal in town. Thirsty Weta seemed to be the only restaurant/store with more than 2 people in it and many other eateries close around 5pm. It's a place to eat that has a somewhat unique and fun vibe relative to the rest of the town. A little pricey...but not outrageous. Food was tasty and service friendly and quick. The bartender/waiter gave us a picture book on wetas which we enjoyed reading while waiting for our food. Nice little place to have some drinks and watch rugby.

“A welcome sight”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2014

We arrived in Otorohanga just before 2pm, very hungry, and looking for somewhere nice for lunch. After a search up & down the main street, The Thirsty Weta looked by far the best option. Despite it being right on 2pm by now, they were happy to let us order from the breakfast/lunch menu which finished at 2pm.

The food was very good - presentation was not that great - but the quality and taste more than made up for this. We were impressed.
