“The PERFECT B&B and THE place to stay at Waitomo!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

What a wonderful set up Colin and Janet have at the Guest Lodge! We only stayed one night but were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. The lodge is lovely, well set up, very comfortable and has everything you could want and more. We were encouraged by our hosts to do the night glow worm walk which was amazing for the incredible night sky almost as much as the great glow worms! Not to be missed - the Lodge even provide torches for you to use!
The room was lovely and homely with tea, coffee and Colin's great homemade cookies and a lovely bathroom. We were able to use the excellent and reasonably priced laundry facilities which was great and the breakfast was a perfect start to the day, with chance to chat with Colin and Janet too about things to see on our journey south.
If you are looking for a room in the Waitomo area, definitely book here without thinking further!

Room Tip: All the rooms looked good. We had the room at the top which had a lovely view and little balcony wit...

We stayed at the Lodge for two nights while travelling in NZ with elderly parents. Our room had a standard layout, with small ensuite (shower pressure was awesome), comfortable bed and a homey feel. Everything was very clean, with tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Colin’s homemade biscuits were a treat and an excellent touch.

Our room was located in the main house and so we had use of the deck which had lovely views of the gardens as well as the hills around the village. Breakfast was well catered – you won’t be disappointed unless you’re expecting a fry-up.

Colin and Janet are friendly and helpful. Colin provided sound advice about eating options and things to do. They even kindly helped us located some items we had left behind.

For those not in hostel mode, we would recommend this as the place to stay in Waitomo.

Colin and Janet were very friendly and the home made biscuits were very yummy! The garden was very beautiful too! The motel is very well located and very close to tracks and glow worm caves, as well as the Huhu restaurant~

We had been touring NZ for three weeks or so by the time we rolled into Waitomo. This was our last night of 'rural' before we headed for Auckland. Our group of seven turned up, booked in and then ran off to our pre arranged trip to see the glowworms.

Did that, came back, showered and went across the road to the restaurant then slept. Next morning while most were sleeping I went off for a walk across the valley and into th hills on the other side of the road. Loads of birds and things to see and a nice bit of river to walk along. Back for breakfast...Colin explaining all the types of honey that were spread across various tables..and then it was time to leave.

Why do we never leave enough time to relax at these places?

Thanks for the review. I agree that most of our guests are on a whirlwind trip through New Zealand and do not leave enough time to stop and look. Two nights is ideal for Waitomo.

Stayed here for one night on way through to Wellington. Janet and Collin were great hosts and made me feel very welcome.

Collin suggested where to eat and what cave tour to do. Neither of which disappointed!

Would definitely stay again :-)

We stayed here a few weeks ago for one night. , The units were old style but clean and super comfortable. Colin and Janet were terrific hosts and suggested we do a night walk to see the glow worms, and they supplied the torches and directions. Dinner at the Huhu across the road made for a perfect stay. Breakfast the next day was plentiful and in a lovely setting. i would recommend this highly.

This was a great little find in Waitomo Caves. The little units are comfortable, clean and warm. We stayed in three units in the middle of winter for one night and had a very comfortable visit. The beds had electric blankets and each room had a little fan heater that warmed the rooms nicely. They also provided a kettle, and complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits. The hosts were extremely friendly and very willing to give us help in planning our activities. Their recommendations were all top notch. On their recommendation we did the Ruakuri bushwalk during the day and evening (they leave torches out for guests to use at night), went on the Spellbound glow worm tour, and had dinner at Huhu restaurant. The breakfast was also one of the nicer B&B breakfasts I've had. A nice big dining room with a nice view, lots of cereals, fruit, pastries and toast. There was something for even our fussiest eaters.

We are so pleased you all enjoyed your stay at our B&B. There are some great things to do in the area as well as the commercial cave trips.
