“Wonderful Hosts!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2008

My boyfriend and I spent a long weekend at this B&B and we both thought that it was lovely. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious for the price, but it was the hosts that really made the difference in this place.

Colin and Janet were awesome and really went out of their way to make us and all the other guests feel welcome. They were extremely helpful, very friendly and even lent us the butter from their own fridge when we decided that we wanted to have lunch in our room. Colins homemade cookies in the room when we arrived didn't go unnoticed either

The B&B is located smack bang in the middle of Waitomo village and practically everything is in walking distance - it is right opposite the Spellbound Tours tower and five mins walk from the pub.

I would thoroughly reccommend this property, and if you are reading this Janet and Colin - Lisa and Bernie thank you very much :o)

  • Liked — The hosts and the generous room size
  • Disliked — Ummmm... the bathroom was a little on the cramped side.

The hosts Colin and his wife are very friendly and provided us with lots of info. Really made our Waitomo visit memorable.Rooms are clean. The garden is so well maintained.Breakfast was wholesome.Near to dining and tour booking facilities. The only minor drawback was to bring up our luggages to our rooms. We needed to negotiate the stairways to our cottage

We stayed in Room #8 for our final night of our 2 week honeymoon in NZ and we loved it. Colin and Janet were very welcoming and were great hosts. They had homemade biscuits in every room and breakfast was great. We liked room #8 because of the great views and we were able to just walk down the street to the cave museum and restaurants. Highly recommended place to stay while in waitomo caves.

We completed a cruise in Auckland and friends from Wellington met us off the ship. They had arranged a tour for us, and the first night was spent at this B & B.

We had adjoining rooms that shared a deck where we enjoyed pre dinner drinks overlooking the hills. We ate in a local restaurant recommended by Colin. The rooms were comfortably furnished with en-suite bathrooms with shower stalls.

The continental breakfast was delicious (home made jam included) and served with good humour. Colin had suggestions for sightseeing, as well as for stops on our continuing journey.

I would recommend this establishment to anyone who is visiting Waitomo.

We booked a specific unit at this lodge at least a month before our trip because we wanted to ensure we had a very quiet room. When we showed up, we were told that the couple that had our room the previous night decided to stay an extra night, so we were given what must have been the most noisy room in the lodge (unit #8, I think). We heard noise from the adjacent guest room (including the shower door opening and closing), noise from the dining room early in the morning, and noise from trucks travelling down the main road thru town. We were very unhappy, and were offered no compensation.

We stayed two nights and were very pleased with our room - great value for the money and with Colin and Janet's helpfulness and advice. Janet even took us and two others for the nighttime glow worm walk as we were still feeling a bit cautious about night time driving. So glad we stayed with them and so glad we stayed for 2 nights. There is a fabulous new restaurant that opened up across the street. Expensive but worth it - go there!

We booked for one night through the local I-Site (tourist board) and found Colin and Janet brilliant hosts. Nothing was too much trouble - and it was the little things that made it extra special. Like Colin's homemade biscuits in the room and the lovely homemade marmalade at breakfast. We were only staying for one night but got the best room with a fantastic view. Thank you Colin and Janet!
