“Lovely place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

We really enjoyed the stay here and would quickly recommend it to others. My family of 5 were accommodated in 2 adjoining rooms - kids at one end and parents at the other end (perfect). The hosts were very warm and kind, providing everything we needed for a relaxed few nights. Their advice on local activities was perfect - helping us choose the best 'glowworm' option for our family.
Colin and Janet present the place beautifully, inside and out. Rooms were not to be faulted. We were busy exploring the local walks and caves but could have easily sat in the garden and just enjoyed the atmosphere.
Thank you Colin and Janet

Absolutely lovely hosts who gave us some great information about what to do around Waitomo. The place is located really close to the Information centre and Huhu, the best restaurant in town. Stay here. It's nice and homey and you get to wake up to breakfast and nice conversations. We had such a relaxing stay here and would defo stay again.

Thanks for the review. We are central to all activities and eateries in our small village. It is great having guests from all over the world sharing the dining room in the morning.

Firstly, Janet and Colin (and Gypsy the Dog) were great hosts, very friendly and very helpful on Waitomo attractions. The lodge locates next to Spellbound Waitomo Glow worm Cave tour (one of the best in town). There are a few local eating places nearby with very reasonable prices.
Our room was one of the smallest of the lot but the sleep was quite comfortable. The continental breakfast was great. It was like eating at your friend's home.

It was a very good stay at Waitomo Caves Guest Lodge.

Room Tip: There are different types of room, just ask Janet and Colin for your needs.

I’ve stayed in the Waitomo Caves Guest Lodge twice this year and absolutely loved it! Colin and Janet are absolutely lovely and made my stay so relaxing and comfortable. What’s not to love about clean rooms, homemade biscuits and marmalade and great company!

Janet and Colin Beeston, the hosts, are very welcoming and full of great advice about the area. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and have great views of the hills and gardens. This was the first place we stayed in an almost three-week trek, and it set a very high standard indeed.

Room Tip: We had the top room... with our own little porch overlooking the garden

All Trip Advisor comments support the fact this Guest Lodge is run by friendly hosts, Colin and Janet. A delightful property with lovely gardens and we experienced the wisteria and roses in flower which looked wonderful. The rooms all located on the elevated property are modern and scrupulously clean. Car parking is at the bottom of the steep driveway but makes for good exercise before starting your adventures in the area!
A continental breakfast is served in the Breakfast Room of the main house and a chance to meet other guests.
A communal fridge is available for guests to keep the wine and beer cold! Washing machine and drying facilities also available.
All local information to design activities to suit your needs can be obtained by talking to Colin or Janet who have an intimate knowledge of the local area. We went on the Spellbound Glowworm tour which operates from the property next door after talking to Janet about other options. This is the trip recorded by David Attenborough for one of his Life On Earth programs.
Highly recommend for value and friendly local hosts.

Thank you for writing such a nice review. You certainly arrived at a great time of year in the garden. You mention our steep drive - you can drive up it to unload your luggage. The advantage of being on a knoll is that we have lovely views all around. However, our units are not suitable for disabled people, or people with limited mobility - too many steps. We are always happy to discuss the various cave options around this area - there are certainly plenty to choose from.

Our small group booked two rooms and although our stay was short, our gracious hosts ensured we were comfortable and well informed on local attractions and restaurants/bars/cafes. The Breakfast we had there was our best morning meal from all the places went to while in NZ. It was just very homely! Very highly recommended, very good people. Wonderful stay and we hope to be there again soon!
