“God Awful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2010

I could write a 1000 word review detailing the awfulness of this place, or just tell you plainly, do not stay here. Ever. Even if it's 3 in the morning, you're tired, desperate, cold, and hungry. Keep driving - it's worth the risk.
To get an idea, check out the reviews of their partner hotel in Rotorua, the Four Canoes Hotel.

My family stayed this weekend and the whole experience was fantastic. The two rooms were very spacious and good value for money. Being able to stay somewhere with lots of places for the children to safely explore was wonderful and very exciting for them. Whilst the decore is in need of attention, this pails in signifigance to the magesty of the historic buidling and its history. The staff are very obliging and striving to rebuild this important part of Waitomo's past.

My partner and I recently stayed at the Waitomo Caves Hotel for our anniversary. We both love old historical places and tramping and had always wanted to stay there. What a lovely old hotel. It has a real presence about it and while parts are a bit worn and needing a bit of care it only added to the special quality of the place. We can't say enough about the wonderful friendly helpful staff who made us feel so welcome and made our stay so enjoyable and even took time out to show us around parts of the hotel. We were lucky enough to stay in the old Victorian part and got to sleep in the old four poster bed in No. 5! What a lovely room room with decor fitting that era. We both had a wonderful sleep in a warm, clean comfortable bed. We had dinner in the restaurant later that night and the meals were so delicious and very affordable! It was a lovely experience and we will definately stay there again!

We had a fabulous 4 day conference in very grand and warm surroundings. Anna and her hard working staff were very friendly and helpful. They took time to chat with each of us, made sure we were very comfortable in our rooms and the chef produced glorious meals and nibbles, day after day. The highlight of the week was our 1920s Murder Mystery Dinner.
All in all a fabulous experience. I will stay there again!

The staff were friendly, helpful and always smiling. Rooms were very clean and warm. The hotel is a beautiful old lady who deserves to be restored to her former glory.

This hotel was recently taken over by people who are trying to revamp it. It is a little run down, but the staff was fantastic. The manager gave us a historical tour of the place, and we stayed up late by the fireplace talking with other guests and some of the staff. It's a little past it's prime... But dinner was spectacular. The pumpkin soup was amazing, and the sticky date pudding... Oh man.

Recently, my husband and I organized a mystery trip for 4 couples and our destination was Waitomo Caves Hotel.
First impressions was "you poor old thing" but hey the atmosphere was amazing and we all enjoyed a wonderful night here.
The staff were great and were happy to take us on a tour of the hotel and relaying stories about the place.
Our rooms were great really considering how old the place is and how run down it had become. It had everything we required, hot shower, comfortable bed and tea making facility.
The hotel is now under new management and they are in the process of trying to restore this lovely old place to some of it's former glory.
Great evening meal from the Restaurant.
So come on everyone call in here and have a night or two. The caves are just around the corner so it is just an easy distance to them.
This great old place needs your support.
