“Quaint country stay but cold in winter”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

Friendly service. Big rooms but difficult to heat up mid-winter with one small heat pump. Very cold in the bathroom and only has a single sized electric blanket for a queen bed. Granted we are used to a hotter climate. We were given a milk carton at check-in but only to find there was another in the fridge. However later in the day when we returned we discovered someone had come in the room to take the extra milk out. A little disturbing that they did so while we were gone. We stayed here because we thought we would be too exhausted after visiting the caves to drive but we discovered that it may have been just as easy to stay in the next town Otorohanga 10mins north. We had to drive to the next town for dinner and breakfast anyway since the Inn's restaurant need to be notified hours earlier if we want dinner/breakfast. May be good for families to stay but if travelling as couples then there are other choices nearby.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the highway would be quieter

Well we were billeted here as part of our cycling Tor of New Zealand as the Waitomo Caves Hotel changed our booking for some unknown reason. One of our group had a room that was so damp she had to put the electric blanket on to dry out a bit of bed to sleep on. The rooms were a decent size but well used and in dire need of fresh paint. The State Highway was a constant source of noise overnight and our room was just about as far away from the road as it was possible to get. Indeed in the morning about 8 HGV's were parked up at the front of the motel.

The place served our purpose of somewhere to sleep and a microwave to make porridge for the next day's ride but it offered little in addition and I won't be going back in a hurry.

Room Tip: If you have to stay then get a room as far from the road as possible

A nice clean and comfortable room at a country motel. Although adjacent to a main highway the room we occupied at the back was quite and restful.. Friendly service at their restaurant with hearty sized meals.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the main highway.

Rooms had just been decorated and some of the fittings upgraded. Very comfortable and clean and a true motor lodge. Good value as well and welcoming staff.

Food is available but this option was not used as had other arrangements.

Worn but clean, very basic, very helpful staff. Comfy bed. Get a room in the back. We had room 10. The rooms in the front would be really noisy as the road is right there. There are not many accomodations in this area, so this one is really quite good for the area. This is a great location if you are visiting Waitomo Caves.

Stayed here for one night, very close to the waitomo caves, very clean and great kitchen.
Large enough for a family of six, plus there is an outside balcony to use also but due to rain we didnt use it. We did run out of hot water very quickly and that was with short showers so after a day of tramping about in damp caves we were dissappointed. Didnt use the restaurant but it looked good.
