“Rustic, yet still charming in Paradise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2010

We recently vacationed at Holbox Dreams (8/25/10-8/27/10) with another couple. This was our third time to the island and second stay with Holbox Dreams (first time for our friends). The hotel is located close to “town” and centrally located on the island. The hotel is quiet and rustic, yet still charming. The rooms are bare and could use more storage space (a table, or extra bed as was in our room last stay) but does have all that is really needed (A/C, clean bed, running water). A small refrigerator is available on the two end units but would be nice if were available to all rooms. The staff is friendly and helpful in arranging excursions. There was adequate beach furniture both on the beach and in the pool area. While we preferred the ocean over the pool, it was nice and refreshing the two times we did get in. We enjoyed our stay again at Holbox Dreams and look forward to our next visit.

This was the second time we visited this hotel, however we have visited the island holbox on other occasions. In context the island is fantastic and we love it, especially this hotel. The rooms are extremely well designed with great taste, especially with regard to the bathrooms where the shower runs out of a conch shell. great idea. the hotel is well located and literally sits on the beach with all the rooms including a sea view surrounding a nice pool, what more can you ask for? The staff, mainly Jeremy, are all extremely helpful and relaxed, overall bringing a comfortable and fun atmosphere to your experience. Overall, the place is beautiful, the staff great, the cost reasonable and the location perfect making it a must for people looking to stay on Holbox.

Hotel Dream HAS so much potential to be great. But the management ruins this.
The price I paid before hand, ended up turning into much more. At the hotel I owed a hidden fee along with a 16% tax. It just seemed to accumulate. For the price, I would expect that the hotel not be so stingy and provide shampoo samples, but only a tiny bar of soap. On top of that the manager, Jeremy, had asked us to use our beach towels for the whole week because his supply was limited. Shouldn't he buy extras for the hotel he is managing? In fact, I could get past the cockroach on the porch and in our room and all the other uncleanliness and disappoints, but the shortness and unhelpful attitude of the manager, Jeremy, was really a let down. If you are considering taking a whale shark tour go to THE BROTHER. Those guys have the best hospitality and deliver exactly what they promise. The provide wet suits (some places only provide life savers like Dream Hotel tours) and the meal included in the price (again, Jeremy had promised ceviche and said we'd see 20 whale sharks which ended up both untrue).
On the upside, the hotel is just a hop skip and a jump from the center. The location is beautifully set on the beach and the beach is clean. They have plenty of beach chairs (obviously not towels) and shade if needed. For the overall cost, I'd just expect some warm hospitality and little accommodations like shampoo and towels. To put this in perspective, the price of Dream hotel you could get an all inclusive resort in Cancun. They take advantage. Initially we tried to cancel but they refused so the options became zero for a bigger bang for our buck. I thought maybe it was just me unable to accept the hidden costs and tax, but another tourist claimed the same about Dream hotel.
Isla Holbox is gorgeous and unique. Since there are many tourists, the restaurants overcharge on everything. I loved all the friendly dogs and the whale sharks are so incredibly gentle and beautiful. I would never let my stay at Dream ruin that experience.
Bring plenty of bug spray!

Can't say enough about the hotel and the island. Jeremy and Elizee were great..now that there is a little palapa cafe next door it is even better. The rooms are charming and clean..the beach is beautiful. Whale shark experience is other worldly ...do it while you can. For a little island the restaurants are unbelievable...try Los Pelones (the bald ones) for Italian cuisine as good as (maybe better) any upscale place in a big city.

My wife and I and my step-daughter recently stayed at the Holbox Dream Hotel. It is in a great location on the beach and there is a little cafe right next door - be sure to try the civiche. Jeremy and Azilee were wonderful hosts, kind, helpful, and patient...AND they speak, English, Spanish, and French. We look forward to going back someday soon.

This place is like being in a dream that an individual wishes to stay there forever. The best part was falling asleep while listening to the amazing ocean and hearing the extraordinary pelicans...Moreover, the jacuzzi is in a breathtaking place in where you feel that you own the ocean and being there with your love one is extremely romantic because during the night the individual can see a massive amount of stars and shooting stars as well.Nevertheless, the staff are extremely helpful and as for the manager.Jeremy I rank him as the most attentive person and overall, he can become an amazing friend as well.

I've been to Holbox 8 times in the last 6 years. The Holbox Dream was awesome. Jeremy the manager couldn't have been any more helpful, booking transportation, fishing tours, etc. Had a great time and will stay there again next year and thereafter.. Jim and Andrea New York
