“Very nice hotel with room for imrovement”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

It is definitely one of the nicest hotels on the island, very nice rooms, good restaurant, well located close to the village center.

The food at the reataurant is very good, unfortunately the kitchen closes at approx. 4pm to get prepared for dinner (at 6pm?). The waiters do their job well, but and except one waiter I haven't seen any of them smiling.

The spa area is located at the pool side, which creates a "conflict" between the people who want a nice calm treatment and the guests with kids, which want to play at the pool. Why didn't they locate the spa area a litte separate like in other hotels?

Also be aware that at night time sometimes a live band plays at one of the bars at the beach side so it gets for the ocean view rooms a little bit noisy till early morning.

Aso I believe the service prices of the hotel are overprized. I think here the hotel still has here room for improvement.
1) Transfer to Cancun USD 150 for up to 2 persons
2) Whale shark watching USD120 per person

1) Taxi: A friendly receptionsts organized me with a simple phone call to taxi central a taxi to Cancun for 800 pesos (approx 60 USD). Ok, you have to get by yourself to Chiquila, but calling a taxi in Holbox and buying a ferry ticket is easy.
2) Whale sharks: We got the same tour for 1000pesos (approx. 80USD) per person in the village (can be organized with one phone call as well).

My husband and I stayed at Las Tortugas. The accommodations were very nice and the restaurant served good food but the wine pour was very disappointing and they charged us separately for milk for our coffee! The front desk clerks were helpful but at we had a very disappointing experience when checking out. We requested a taxi to take us back to the dock. A taxi was called and the receptionist from Las Tortugas made sure we knew that the charge for the taxi was 90 pesos. My husband and I found this strange since we only paid 30 pesos when we got a taxi to the hotel from the dock. While waiting for the taxi several passengers got off at Las Tortugas and they paid 30 pesos. We decided to take one of the taxis that dropped off a passenger and when we got to the dock the charge was 30 pesos. I can only assume that the receptionist had a deal with the taxi company and got a portion of the proceeds. I hope the hotel is not aware of this, if not, they should be. I still would recommend this hotel because the good certainly out-ways the bad.

It has been a couple of months since visiting Isla Holbox and staying here and I still am thinking about this place. It is one of those places that makes you feel at home and pampered at the same time. The food on location was really the best we had on our trip. The staff was welcoming and helpful - we had contact with Lorena at the front desk and she helped us prior to the trip via emails and when we got to the hotel it was like meeting an old friend. I keep recommending this to people I meet and hope I can go back and stay longer than 3 days. I also liked the location to the town and the atmosphere on Isla Holbox was magical. We did go during Whale Shark season but I will definitely consider going back during other times.

Room Tip: Rooms are all different -

A friend recommended a stay at Casa Las Tortugas, and we were not dissapointed! We spent 5 days there from Aug 2nd to Aug 7th. The hotel is beautiful. We stayed in 3 different rooms (we booked our vacation last minute). Each room is different and special in there own way: hammacs, patios with chairs, etc. The staff made the room changes extremely easy. They would make sure our luggage was safe and came to get us on the beach when our next room was ready. We couldn't ask for more!

The beaches are beautiful: white sand, gorgeous water and clean. The beaches are not overcrowded, so it's like you have a little piece of paradise for yourself.

The hotel food was very good, we ate there almost all the time. You also have breakfast included with your stay which is great.

Overall we had a fantastic trip! It was a perfect relaxing trip which was most need. Special thanks to Carolina for all her help with the room changes. We are already dreaming of going back!

Room Tip: Next time we go, we will try an ocean view room. We really enjoyed the "Sunflower room".

Based at this hotel, I had one of the most marvellous days of my life swimming with whale sharks. First, the hotel. It is not the cheapest in Hol Box. We got a good deal for two nights and sucked up an expensive third night. The hotel itself is real quality through and through. We had a standard room and then a pool view room. Both were excellent. The hotel itself is well managed with exceptionally good reception staff. The hotel's Mandarin restaurant serves fantastic food. Yes, it is about 15 percent more expensive than elsewhere on the island, but the quality of French Mexican fusion is way, way above food we had elsewhere in Hol Box and in Cancun. Restaurant staff were top quality.
But it was the whale sharks (and the manta rays, flamingos, white herons, snorkelling, and cerviche) that made the visit so great. The hotel booked us through VIP Hol Box and we had a wonderful day. We are in our mid-sixties and relished the chance to live a dream.

Room Tip: You can't chose a poor room; this hotel doesn't have any! So simply book a standard room. No...

I honestly think that bad review posted recently must have been in error and they meant to post it for another place because Las Tortugas is absolutely prestine. I went here for a wedding, and it was the most perfect wedding -- many thanks to las Tortugas and the amazing staff there. This place is gorgeous in every way and extremely clean. The food was delicious, the rooms were so unique and beautiful--makes you feel like you're in a dream the whole time. I plan to come here again and again!

Firstly, the staff at reception are exceptionally friendly and accommodating to every need. The room was very cosy. We had a two floor ocean view house and the only qualm is that the downstairs space is wasted and we didn't spend any time there; the upstairs on the other hand was perfect, with good comfortable bed, nice bathroom, and beautiful outdoor terrace equipped with hammock - perfect for whiling away an afternoon. That is, when not on the beautiful white sand beach that's just steps away; the wonderful town centre of Holbox just minutes walk. Location could not be better. We would definitely come back.
