Simply stated, El Chapulim is the best restaurant on Holbox. The food is masterfully prepared by a chef that clearly takes considerable pride in, and brings impressive skill to his cooking. The restaurant's distinction (besides the high quality of its cuisine) is the absence of a set, standardized, and written menu. Instead, each evening has daily features (usually four) in different categories (pescado, camarones, carne, mariscos mixtos, for examples), all detailed by the chef after you're seated. This is a cozy, well-appointed and casual restaurant just off the zócalo, and well worth multiple visits. For the quality of the food, the prices are certainly reasonable. The host/server and the chef work in convivial and efficient tandem, and the experience, from the food, to the service, to the atmosphere (we preferred an outdoor table) is thoroughly enjoyable. An eminently drinkable Baja wine, and you're set.
