Here's the thing, it's not another sterile marble palace in the Yucatan - Casa Blat'Ha' s elegance is in its simplicity and its grace. Located on a very quiet and sparsely populated end of Isla Holbox, it takes you far from your everyday life and yet makes you feel at home. You are merely steps from the most beautiful and nearly deserted beach I've had the pleasure to walk in decades. The water is shallow and gentle, and sparkles in more shades of turquoise and blue than I know names for. By day the skies are full of terns, frigate birds and pelicans, and the nights are blanketed by stars. If that's not enough, you're a fifteen minute walk or five minute taxi ride from all that town has to offer.

The staff was patient, sweet, lovely and cheerful, and can they cook! -- In a just short while they seemed able to anticipate our needs. Daniel and Patty thoughtfully provided just about anything we needed - from purified water, to all the stuff week needed for the beach - chairs, big straw hats, and big thirsty towels.

I'd return to Blat'Ha gladly.

My girlfriend and I wanted a relaxing, quiet vacation that wouldn't starve our already skinny bank accounts beyond the point of no return. We decided to go to Holbox on a whim, and ended up in Casa BlatHa because it sounded like it fit our qualifications. From the moment we stepped up the vine-shrouded stairs into the warm, welcoming lobby-room, we were certain we'd made the right choice. Though the rooms are sparsely furnished, they are clean and welcoming. The balconies overlooking the gulf are lovely -- screened-in and hammocked to perfection. The roof deck is a great place for watching pelicans, stars, and the occasional dolphin.

In the mornings, the fresh baked bread and delicious jam are a fabulous start to the day and the owners and employees are uniformly friendly and helpful. At night, although Casa BlatHa is a 12-15 minute walk down the beach from the center of town, we relished the quiet, stargazing jaunt through the soft sand and gentle waves. Honestly, we can't recommend Holbox and Casa BlatHa highly enough. Definitely worth the trip.

I have to say this place was by far the most beautiful, luxurious and comfortable place to stay on the island. And, compared to other places on the island I would never stay anywhere but here if I ever went back to Holbox (which I'm already planning to do!!) Casa Blatha is on the other side of the island walking distance from town and has its own personal beach in front of the hotel. Since its far from all of the other resorts on the island its always empty and you feel a sort of seclusion that is truly special. The staff at Casa Blatha were AMAZING, they felt like family by our last day there. The food is also delicious and fresh, especially the coffee in the morning, strong and so flavorful. Daniel, the owner, took us on a sail boat ride one day that was so relaxing and fun, he also suggested great places to eat around the island and day tours we should take. My friend and I spent one whole day driving around the island on a golf cart checking out other hotels and places to stay and we deduced that for such cheap prices we picked the PERFECT place. Also the rooftop garden has an entire 360 degree view of the island and the ocean, and watching the sunset from this perch is like no other experience. This place is a GEM, I guarantee you will enjoy it.

Room Tip: We stayed in a suite which had a balcony, perfect size for two people, and a great hammock and porch...

Casa Blatha’s website has great pictures, but no pictures can do justice to the beauty and absolute tranquility you will find there, a feeling that is spread all across the wonderful piece of paradise that is Holbox Island. My girlfriend and I stayed there for 5 nights after spending time on Cozumel, and waking up each morning to look up at the palm-frond ceiling of our Casa Blatha room made for a great start to each day. The building is as unique and quirky as you can get, and there may be little things someone used to staying in 5-star hotels are not used to (such as a concrete bathtub/shower), but features like the panorama views of the south end of the island from the rooftop deck make Casa Blatha a place you will remember for years to come. It is a short distance outside of downtown, but my girlfriend and I always felt comfortable walking back late at night (with a flashlight provided by Daniel, who will take very good care of you). In my mind, it is nice that Casa Blatha is outside of the town centre, as it is a few steps to a most often deserted beach, and the peace and tranquility that is present at Casa Blatha can only be experienced in person. I am not able to begin to discuss the food available on Holbox, absolutely incredible stuff at restaurants, delis, and cafes run by a mix of locals and ex-pats who have moved to Holbox from around the world to escape the ‘rat race’ and live the dream running a small business. Before Holbox is discovered by the likes of Lonely Planet and the masses come to the island, go there and experience what in my mind is paradise on earth.

A hearty thank you to Daniel and his entire staff for making our stay in Holbox absolutely brilliant.

Daniel has built a paradise just a few steps from the turquoise sea. The views are wonderful, particularly from his rooftop terrace. The rooms, including bathrooms, are clean and well cared for.

But it is Daniel and his staff (Wilbert, Daniela and Laura to name a few) who made our stay a delight. They are a charming, helpful and thoughtful crew, always doing their best to make sure their guests are in good spirits.

It was the simple things that brought a smile to my face; arriving every afternoon to a freshly made bed complete with a bath towel menagerie designed by Daniela (crabs, swans and frogs!) Wilbert’s fresh bread, jam and coffee he served every morning. A chat with Laura in the high heat of the day about the arts scene in Mexico.

But it is Daniel’s hospitality, kindness and grace (not to mention the fact that he speaks English, Spanish, German and French!) that will draw us back to Casa Blatha for another beach paradise vacation. My deepest gratitude to Daniel and company for a blissful stay.

If you can find your way to Casa Blatha, I’m sure you will have a similarly wonderful experience.

This is the second time my husband and I stay with Daniel and his friendly and welcoming staff at the small eco-friendly hotel Casa Blat-ha. This time we spent 10 nights in a nice room on the 2nd floor with fantastic panoramic views of the sea and beach. Our room was not big and with just the necessary furniture, but very clean and with two glass doors to the balcony (with a hammock) and amazing sea views. Just what we wanted! The staff is really friendly, as is the owner Daniel, who knows just about all there is to know about the region and island and speaks several languages. The are no loud neighbours around and the 15 min. walk to town along the beach is lovely. The breakfast is really nice, mostly home made fresh produce - we looked forward to the granola and fresh fruit every morning! And down miss the roof top terrace with stunning views of the island!
In short, Casa Blat-ha is highly recommended if you want a lovely small, quiet, personal and eco-friendly place to stay while visiting this fantastic island. We cannot wait to return!

Casa Blatha is a peaceful place to stay. The rooms and the view are beautiful and the atmosphere is welcoming and super friendly. The vegeterian food is cooked with fresh and local products (mostly ingredients they produce themselves). The beach is one block away. All those little details makes Daniel's place, the perfect environment for a relaxing holiday.
