“Charming, relaxing and great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

My family and I (2 young children) stayed in the Aquarius cottage in Harbourville and could not have asked for better accommodation. Harbourville is in a great location for daytripping throughout the valley and beyond. The town is authentic and locals friendly. The cottage was very homey and comfortable. Its location right on the beach provided hours of entertainment for my children. We hope to get back to Harbourville again.

Had an overall great experience. Nice cottages with an amazing view! Great weather during the whole duration and the family who runs the business is wonderful. Extremely nice and helpful. Guaranteed to be a great experience and will definitely come back again!

The signature food in the restaurant is superb. The service is very friendly, the hosts are warm and helpful. We were happy to be repeat customers at Schnitzelhaus.

Our cottage was a great change from run-of-the-mill accomodation -- full of character (including what one local called "Nova Scotia geometry" -- after a century or so, a fisherman's home will have settled down a bit). The climate was hot in the daytime, but things cooled down enough overnight for good sleeping, and even for using the gas stove briefly in the mornings to erase the chill. Very reminiscent of staying at my family's old farm, but with a view of the harbor and Fundy tides right outside the windows.

A caution -- our cottage was exactly what we wanted: a house that shows its age in a small fishing village, near rocky beaches and cliffs with small caves. If you want lush carpeting, A/C, Fitness Room, and a Tim Horton's around the corner, this isn't the place (although it does have Wi-Fi). We had a wonderful week here.

Room Tip: Choose your cottage according to what you want. The cottages are quite different from each other...

My family and I have made the getaway to Harbourville several times, sometimes just to eat, but a couple of times to stay as well. The restaurant is always excellent - real German comfort food. We love the touches of Europe in a traditional Canadian fishing village. The owners are friendly and efficient, as one would expect of German hosts. In addition to clean, comfortable accomodations, the beach and surrounding areas have provided hours of enjoyment for us and the kids. The location of the cottages around the working harbour provide a glimpse of traditional fishing life, and also a chance to view the remarkable tides, the highest in the world, which seem to fill the harbour is little more than the time it takes to eat dinner. A great escape from the stress of everyday life within 90 minutes drive of Halifax. We look forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: The Oceanus is our favourite, overlooking the bay and the harbour. The walk around the harbour to t...

This is a late review as our travel was quite sometime ago, but still the same owners and from other reviews I see the same problems. We had made a reservation but were staying close-by in a place we loved! Took a drive down and peeked in the cottages and dining room and made a call to see if we could stay at our present locale and be able to get some of our deposit back. "no problem!" wasthe reply. Well, like so many others, have never received a penny of credit. Have called and emailed and their best answer, only one reply, was that they thought we were going to buy a local property, we were seriously considering it, so when we didn't they decided not to give a refund. Would not recommend astray here unless you knew for sure you wanted to be there.
